Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

It must have gone early this evening. A friend got her and her daughter in to the 5k this afternoon after I pointed out that it was at 85%.

Just more proof that those percentage bars are manually updated and nobody works on the RunDisney site on the weekend.

I recall this happening last year, not sure if it was the 5k or another event. If I remember right the prevailing wisdom was that Disney doesn't update their website percentages on weekends.

Just more proof that those percentage bars are manually updated and nobody works on the RunDisney site on the weekend.

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. I remember this happening a few months ago with something (maybe Infinity Gauntlet Challenge?) that sold out overnight - they took until the next morning to update the percentage bar.
I feel bad for people who look at the percentage, see that it's only 85%, and try to register. Oh well, it happens. It should be listed as sold out within the next 12 hours (hopefully less).

I priced out rooms this week. Last year I booked two rooms at Pop for 4 of us and then added the AP discount when it was released. I think that the rooms ended up $550 each, roughly. We are adding a night this year and there are three of us instead of 4. One room at Pop is $1100. Yikes!

We really loved Pop last year, but I decided to just book OKW with my DVC points. One room (2 queen beds and a kitchenette) was only 80 points. Seems like a steal compared to the value rooms.

It would be nicer to have the second room, but since its just me my DD and DM I think we can make do.

I am a bit worried about convenience of traveling from OKW. Anyone have any experience of being there for race days? or for getting to the Expo? I'm wondering if it might be worth it to rent a car? Not for getting to the races, but to the expo and parks and DTD.

I stayed with friends at OKW the weekend of my first PHM, and it was great! That was back when we were allowed to walk to the corrals from the resort, rather than wait around forever in the pre-race area, then trek the mile or so to the corrals (that seems like a LOT of back & forth, before the race even starts!). Seriously, we slept in until 4:30am, and walked to the corrals at 5:25am. It was glorious not having to get up at o'dark thirty like we do now. I think even now, though, staying at a resort close to the start is a good idea.

Just finished a nice 3 mile run, who else has started their training?!

I ran about 3.5 miles around the high school track Sunday morning. It was definitely easier than running around my neighborhood which is really hilly! Right now I am running 30 minutes two days during the week and a longer run on the weekend. Basically I'm taking it slow and getting used to the effort and not trying to do too much too soon. In August I will be bumping up the effort and work on reducing my pace which is averaging around 11 minutes right now. My sister and I plan on running a 10k in October to get our official POT.

Checking in as a spectator. My best friend is running it with a crew, her husband, brother, SIL, and 3 other friends. My daughter and I are going as part of the ChEAR squad. So excited just booked our stay at All Star Movies and trying to get a game plan to be at MK to get pics and then head to finish line. I have my own health goals before the race. Lose 30 lbs! So I'll be working out as well. Any tips from any who have spectated or family and friends that have are appreciated!! Also, plan on making a poster for my DIS'ers so I'll be there to chear you on as well!!

I may be the odd man out, but I love it when spectators have on the Mickey Mouse gloves and offer me a high "four" as I pass. There were some cast members at Epcot just before the finish during my first PHM who did that, and I'll tell ya, at mile 13 I could definitely use that pick-me-up!!

For those who ordered the "In Training" shirts from the Disney Store, have your shirts shipped yet? Whenever I check the status of my order, I get this message: "Order Status: Active. Sorry. We are currently unable to obtain your order status from our warehouse."

The payment is still pending, too. I double-checked all of my payment & shipping info, and everything looks accurate, so I'm not sure what the holdup is...?

I'm getting this same message. :confused3

As of Friday I hadn't gotten mine for Star Wars weekend...so it may be a few week yet. My guess is they are getting all the orders in before doing the run.

So, resort change for me! We are now doing a split stay at BWV and BLT. We own DVC at multiple resorts and didn't have enough BWV points to book a GV for the duration of our trip at 11 months. Yesterday was 7 months out, when we could have used OKW or VB points to make up the difference, but the GV was no longer available for Friday. We did not want to change rooms three times so we decided to change resorts. So now for Wed & Thur night the first 6 of us are at BWV in a 2BR. On friday after the 5k and when the rest of our group arrives (4 more), we move to a GV at Bay Lake Tower. I will miss having the family cheer us on as we run by the boardwalk for the 10k, but I will love having them there to see us go by BLT for the half on Sunday. I stayed at BLT for GSC in 2014, and loved using the monorail, so I am glad to have that again for the 10k and half this year.

Started the 10k training today. 2 miles in 30 minutes of run/walk intervals. My heels are killing me tonight and I have my plantar fasciitis brace on tonight and I've been doing stretches on and off all day.

Running a 5k this afternoon in my race shirt from last year!

So... My friend running with me wants to try for a sub 2:30 race but the training plan she printed out for us is insane and neither of us are at the pace or milage to do it. Anyone have any experience telling a friend that they may need to find a training plan that is more in-tune with their current running ability? I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I don't want her to get injured either...

Hmm, I'd probably tell her that I found another training plan that better suits my running ability, but if she wants to try her plan on her own then go for it! But, I'm doing mine (lol), and if she finds that hers is too rigorous, then I'll share mine with her, too.

Hey guys, I signed up for the GSC and the 5k with my friend. I started running back in March after the same friend gushed about how great the weekend was. I currently can do a 10k and am training my way up to the 1/2. I'll be a lot easier when the summer ends (I ran 4 miles this morning at 75 with 77% humidity and it was hot event with out the sun). Any tips for a first timer?

I posted this elsewhere, so I'll paste it here and add on...

Biggest tip: TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN. Make sure that you are prepared! I think that's the biggest mistake people make with Disney races - yes, they are fun and yes, they are magical, but you still signed up to cover 13.1 miles. Pixie dust alone is not enough! Find a training plan that works for your schedule and abilities, and STICK TO IT! Related note - don't feel like you have to do back-to-back runs every weekend to get ready for 5K + GSC. The Galloway GSC plan has 5, which is plenty.

Other tips:
- Get fitted for running shoes if you don't have them already (I'm assuming you do since you're up to a 10K)
- Run a 10K at home to use as proof of time for coralling (has to be submitted by November 17)
- PACK LAYERS - both for running and for throwaway clothes (there were VERY cold temperatures this year for Princess Weekend!)
- Practice running in your running outfit ahead of time
- Nail down your race nutrition during training, and...

DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA! :teeth:

Also decide on what you're running for. Are you in it to finish or in it to take pictures / stop along the way.

Thanks guys, I'm definitely running to finish and I'll keep training hard. I got my running shoes fitted in June and I'm scheduled to run a chip timed 10k in September (I may try to find another local one before November as well). I was planning on using the Galloway training guide when it starts in October but I've been working with the 10k and 1/2 marathon app by Zen Labs since I started with their C25K. I didn't even think of how to layer or what my costume will be if I do one so I'll have to work on that. Thanks so much for the advice!

Sounds like you're off to a great start @Anisum! :)

I think I'm going to use the Galloway plan too. Originally I was thinking about Higdon but I have been using Galloway's Dumbo Double Dare plan (which is the same as GSC) and I like it so far. We'll see!
