Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Registered for the 5k with my 'non runner' friend who is using it as the goal at the end of a rough few upcoming months of surgery/radiation.. This will be year 3 of us finishing the 5k together (slow but steady)

Then I'm going to go run one of the gasparilla challenges in Tampa

Does anyone know how the charity registrations work, specifically the Children's Miracle Network? I understand there is a fundraising requirement for each race chosen, but is the registration fee that same as though you are registering through RunDisney? I can't seem to find that info on their (CMN) website. When I click on "reserve my spot" and choose a race to register for, it shows no dollar amount. I'm just thinking of this as an option as I'm terrified I won't get in on the 14th during regular registration.

Not sure if this help your worries but you might not have as many issues as you think on the 14th. The Early Registration spots still have availability for the Half, 5K, Kid's Races. This is unlike the other races where I saw it sell out in less than the first day.

Unless you are looking for GSC or the 10K, I think you should be fine for the 14th.

I'm not surprised that GSC and the 10K filled up quickly, and that the half is open. But I'm very surprised that the 5K is still open.

I don't know about AP/DVC registration, but the 5K took a while to sell out during regular registration last year ... like a few days, if my memory is correct.
It made me really annoyed that I was on the computer at noon dealing with the runDisney site crashing.

Now that you mention it, I looked back through my email and I signed up for the 2014 Royal Family 5K about a month before race day. That seems insane to me!

I think I was thinking it would be like the Star Wars 5K, that sold out in a couple of hours or whatever...

Yes, you create the active account.

Realize that while signing someone up for the run and even the active account, you are agreeing to things for them. Terms and conditions for the active account as well as their privacy policy. And for the race, you are initialing the spot about the runner's rights in case of problems and also agreeing to packet pickup etc. it's a funny thing, to accept those things for someone else. (Certainly one of the reasons they want us to sign ourselves up as adults)

Email, birthdate, phone number, address, shirt size, estimated pace...those are things you'll need to know. And there's no other spot for a different name for the cc info, so it will show your cc but the runner's name. If your cc company is touchy about these things, it's good to be aware of.

I just emailed my TA friend and asked her to book a room at Art of Animation in the Little Mermaid section...seems appropriate for this weekend!

ETA: Yep, BFF#1 just officially said she's not doing it. BFF#2 has all but said she's certainly not doing it. Sadness!

Thank you for this information! If it were someone that didn't already live in Orlando (so no hotel needed) and weren't a relative (it's for my sister) I don't think I would be comfortable doing it this way. Under these special circumstances, I'm willing to take the risk though.

Ah, thanks. One of my friends is a local so I'm sure I'll see her at some point during the weekend...but she's got 2 young kiddos so I realize she can't really schedule stuff.

I'm sort of excited about a little solo time - I get to make all of the decisions! Hmm...

We stayed there the night before the January Half. It felt like a daunting walk to the buses, but it was actually really great. Got me a little stretchy in the morning, and helped me out a LOT on the way back. We only had that one night stay, and somehow my husband managed to convince the front desk to do a later checkout than normal (something they were doing for the runners, it seemed), but hubby and son had already left to make sure they had plenty of time for DS's Mickey Mile. So I walked briskly back to the room to get all ready to join them, and that nice brisk walk, even after the Half (and I hadn't trained anywhere near adequately), felt terrific. (helped that I had put my Crocs Athens into my gearbag!)

Glad to help. It's almost like I just did this process for a Floridian relative or something. (kind of weird that yours is a FL relative as well!)

Oh solo trips are the BEST. No asking anyone anything! It's hard to be passive aggressive (oh sure, we can do that, it's just that I wanted to do this, but it's OK, let's go...) with yourself! Stop and smell the roses without worrying that you've left someone behind. Awesome.

Which section were you in? I stayed with the aforementioned BFFs in a Lion King Suite in April and really liked it a lot.

I'm with you on not minding the walks, especially after the races. The bus rides to/from the parks are another story (says the deluxe resort snob).

Okay, thanks for posting this! I've done race trips partially solo before (where I arrive before whoever is coming to meet me) but not TOTALLY solo. First time for everything.

I'm excited but a little disappointed. My friends and I live in different states and this had been in the works for awhile, but they have good reasons for bowing out (new job for one, new baby for the other). Just a little sad I won't get to see them. But I still get to go to Disney and run the races (assuming registration goes okay), so yay for that.

Your registration fee is included, so you do not have to pay that. No money is due at this time. I felt the same way which is why I went ahead and signed up through them.

Okay, thanks for posting this! I've done race trips partially solo before (where I arrive before whoever is coming to meet me) but not TOTALLY solo. First time for everything.

I'm excited but a little disappointed. My friends and I live in different states and this had been in the works for awhile, but they have good reasons for bowing out (new job for one, new baby for the other). Just a little sad I won't get to see them. But I still get to go to Disney and run the races (assuming registration goes okay), so yay for that.

Yeah, running the races solo is one thing (I've run the marathon alone twice and I always run alone at home), but having table service meals alone and stuff like that will be new. Mostly I'm bummed because my friends all love in different states and I was looking forward to seeing them. But at the same time I'm looking forward to a trip that is totally on my terms. Hope you
