Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Gold Bond makes a chafing stick. It's in a container like a stick of deodorant. Worked great last year when I was trudging around WDS in late August.

I'm a fan of the Gold Bond stick and you can get it at Wal Mart over by the bandaids, etc.

As for our park/touring schedule. Last year we ran the 5K and 10K only, but our touring schedule will likely be the same although we are running all 3 races this year:

Thurs: Arrive around 11/11:30, Magical Express to resort, quick lunch at resort or Expo depending on how hungry we are, return to room and relax for a bit. Dinner at MK (Be Our Guest or Liberty Tree) with a few rides via FP+ then back to the hotel for an early bedtime before the 5K

Fri: 5K, return to hotel to shower & relax, maybe grab a quick bite if hungry. DHS, QS lunch, relax at the hotel for a bit, then dinner at BOG at MK if we didn't do it the night before, back to resort & bed

Sat: 10K, return to hotel and shower, Epcot QS lunch in World Showcase, dinner at Trattoria al Forno, back to resort and bed for the 1/2

Sun: Half and then undecided. Liked the idea of freshening up and then having lunch with the Princesses, but I might really want a shower so we'll see. Normally my plan would be to hit a few rides in MK after we've showered and rested, then head over to the Poly for dinner and a celebratory Lapu Lapu!

Where would one pick up Body Glide? Can you get it at Target type places, or a running store, or is online best?

I usually get mine at our local running store, but I've also seen it at most sporting goods stores, too (REI, Sports Authority, D1cks Sporting Goods).

I usually buy the body glide at Dick's Sporting Goods. That stuff is a god-send. From long runs to hot days, its great to put on. I don't know how I lived without it! I sometimes use it on days I know i'll be walking around a lot and my legs will rub together. No matter what workouts I do, I don't have the thigh gap.

On a lighter note, great 3 mile run last night! Horray princess training!

Can anyone tell me how much time there is between the family 5K and the kids races? I just realized that we booked the family 5K for all of us and the race for our two-year-old, but he will be with a sitter and we will have to get back to him and then bring him back. Also where exactly is the kid race Held?

Last Princess's info:

5K first corral starting at 6:15.
8:45 a.m. – 1-Mile Run start
9:15 a.m. – Dashes start

I did a 9.3 mile training run this morning. Next week I'm doing a 15K race. It's kind of a different format. The race starts any time after 9:30 pm. You are not allowed to wear a watch or any timing devices, and the goal is to make it to the finish line as close to 12am as possible. The 5 people that cross the finish closest to midnight are the winners.

I am a slow but very consistant runner, so I might have a chance to win this one. I ran the course today to get an idea of what it will be like next week and to plan my water breaks which I usually do every 15 mins while I run. I did it in 1h 44mins. About 11:10 min/miles. Not too bad.

I'm so happy to have found this thread! I am a slow and steady kind of runner that has been running 1 or 2 half marathons per year for the last four years. However, I have NEVER done a RunDisney race, so I am beyond excited to be signed up for the Princess half marathon!! Can't wait to "train" with you all over the coming months!

Welcome! You are going to have so much fun! I predict that you will get hooked!

How is training going princesses? I had a nice 5 miler on the treadmill today. 11:30 average pace.

I used to hate the treadmill but recently I've enjoyed it more than outside running.

I finally had a decent run yesterday. Ever since an abdominal surgery in April with a heavily restricted 6 week recovery period I have been struggling to feel like I'd ever get back to feeling comfortable on runs. Saturday I managed 3.75 miles in 36 minutes with only one walk break. I felt good the majority of the run, didn't feel like an endless struggle. I was starting to feel nervous, because I have Avengers in November for my coast-to-coast. One good run doesn't mean smooth sailing ahead, but I feel more hopeful than I did before that run:)

I got in 4 miles on Saturday. The temperature rose 10 degrees during the run so I had to walk more than that usual near the end. Still for the amount of it I walked I was going at a 14 minute mile pace for all but the last half mile so it wasn't bad. I'm hoping to get my time down a bit more.

I finished week one of the 10k training this weekend. I'm starting very early because I often have weeks I can't run due to family commitments. Saturday was 75 at 7:30 a.m. and I had to run hills, into the sun. It was awful and I dropped from my 15 minute mile to a 16 minute mile. I only needed to go 1.5 miles for this week but I stopped and picked up the dog for a cool down walk and that added a half mile and another hill.

Hi I just wanted to say that I have almost the same story! my abdominal surgery was in May (8 weeks ago last Friday) and I am just getting started back at the most frustratingly slow pace ever! It's encouraging to hear that you're starting to feel better on your runs and I hope it continues to get better. Best of Luck!

Training is going well! I am still an interval run/walk gal. I have a 5k in November and I would love to run the whole thing, or at least 3/4 of it. For those looking for body glide, try Amazon.com. Or I've heard the monistat no chafe cream works great (I have not tried it personally)

Our Schedule so far:
Wednesday night-arrive to resort after 9pm
Thursday- hit expo early, lunch at resort or DTD, shopping and relaxing at pool if warm enough
Friday- 5k, back to shower, lunch at park, relaxing evening since we have another early wake up
Saturday- 10k, back to shower, lunch at park, close down park since we are not doing half on Sunday
Sunday-sleep in, relax at resort until ME pick up

My mom called me last night and put a big wrench in the plans. My aunt has decided she wants to join us on the trip. My mom, DD16, and I are going to run/walk the 5K. So now I am looking into charity or travel planner options to get my aunt a bib too.

I also have one studio booked at OKW on points. Now I'm going to need a second room too.

Has anyone bought a bib from a travel provider before? The room rates are not listed, I'm wondering if they would apply room discounts if one becomes available?
