Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

My apologies for being absent lately - my notification settings must be screwy, because I had no idea this thread has gotten so much chatter lately! If you don't see your name on the list in Post #1, can you please shoot me a PM so I can add you? I want to make sure we're all covered so we can support each other. Also, if you want to join our FB group too, it's called "DisGirls & Guys Princess Half Marathon". I'm not the Admin for that group, but I joined it last year, and it's nice to have that tool as a way of encouraging each other, especially on registration day & race day.

Update: my boyfriend's brother & his girlfriend backed out, so it'll just be us two running next year's races. I've decided to run the Triple Crown (5K & GSC) instead of the GSC, so that my boyfriend won't have to run the 5K alone (he was going to run it with his brother while us girls cheered them on). I'm a little intimidated, but I think I'm to the point in my running career that I welcome the challenge. Now I just need to decide on what to dress up as for the 3 races!!
I'm having a hard time finding the FB group. Any clues on how to find it on Facebook? Thanks!

Sooooo ... I'm seriously debating Princess weekend now. I originally had planned for GSC, but that was before Dopey.

And I still want to run the following weekend in New Orleans, but will probably only do the 10k that weekend again because I don't think anyone in our group will go half.

So - my options:

GSC or "just the" Half

With
RnR NOLA Half or "just the" 10k the following weekend.

I did, initially, as well. Until I figured out I had to filter the search.

Type "DisGirls & Guys Princess Half Marathon" into the Search Facebook box at the top. Click on the magnifying glass to search.

At first it looks like FB can't find the results. At the top where it says Top / People / Photos / Pages, etc., click on More. Then click on Groups. The group should show up then. :)

Maybe saying "simply the 10K" would be a good way to word it? :)

I don't have a problem saying "just the" whatever as a way to describe doing one thing and not the other, but I know if someone ELSE says it about your plans it sounds like "just the" is judgy. So maybe "simply the" is good? (yes I've been trying to figure that out since January 2014 when getting really really peeved at the start at the announcers saying "just the" whatever. I can say it but you can't, darnit! :))

I myself am going through the same questions. I have this great Bay Lake reservation and haven't heard from my cousin. So I either just register for DVC reg and see IF she is going to register. If she doesn't, then I'm on my own. So maybe I should just decide for myself and DO it? Was going to shoot her another text or call but today she's at the ER with her daughter with what I assume is appendicitis (or they'll finally realize that her girl shouldn't just *avoid* gluten for behavioral reasons, but is actually celiac), so this isn't a question for right now!

It's a funny thing, having that resort reservation and how it makes it feel like it's a done deal. When I made it I thought it would be easy to cancel Ha ha ha!

The wake-ups are definitely tough. In January I started out going to bed the first couple of nights a little after 10. By the third morning I felt terrible. :faint: Then I went to bed at 8 that night and woke up feeling awesome. The running wasn't tough (because I'd trained my butt off) - I just had not been getting as much sleep as I needed. Lesson learned, sleep will be a priority in February!

If you train well and are smart about what you eat that weekend and about staying off of your feet, you should be okay. I'm using Galloway's Dumbo Double Dare plan right now (also doing the 5K that weekend) and if it works well for September I'll be using it again for GSC + 5K. :)

We did the same thing last year. We went to bed between 9-10 and were exhausted the next day of the 5K so it became 8pm bedtimes all week!

Thought y'all would like today's running outfit! princess:

The shirt is from Designz by Michelle (she sells her stuff on Facebook) and the skirt is a custom SparkleSkirt...fabric from eBay. :)

That Sparkle Skirt is to die for! The shirt is super cute as well! Great choice!

Go with your gut. If you do the half, you can do GSC another year. Not like it's going anywhere! :)
It is open to everyone! Come on by!

I am injured, so I'm not sure if I'll be doing the 5K/10K, the GSC, or none at all.
Ugh! Hope you feel better soon. :(

Super cute...so tell me about custom sparkle skirts? I'm not a huge fan of sparkly sparkle skirts...so I could get behind some good basics. I also want an FSU colored one for myself and a friend that we can embellish.

Getting so excited to sign up for my first RunDisney event! We're DVC members, so I'm anxiously counting down the hours to sign up time! I plan on doing the GSC. We've already got our room booked for the event at The Grand Floridian, my husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year Anniversary as well while we're there :).

I'm the same way - less sparkly is better for me. No hand washing over here!

Customs info is in FAQ 2, 2A and 2B: http://sparkleskirts.com/pages/spark-faq

Mostly people will find fabric on Spandex Warehouse and Spandex World websites. You can do anything to the skirts - add length, make the shorts a different size/color than the skirts, etc. They generally don't recommend getting fabric from eBay but I'd seen this skirt done before so I knew it was okay. It's safest to email them before ordering anything to make sure what you want is a.) appropriate fabric for a skirt and b.) not an exclusive team skirt, because if it is they won't make it.

The cheapest route is to have them order the fabric for you (I didn't realize this when I got my M&M fabric). If you order it yourself the skirt costs $10 less but then you buy the fabric and pay to ship it to them, which is almost always more than $10. The skirts themselves cost at least $15 more than the stock skirts. That and the wait time (they quote it as 16-20 weeks, but this skirt didn't take that long) are the worst parts. But otherwise I'm finding getting customs pretty addicting...

I don't know anything about the embellishments because I've never gotten one. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I would opt for either a) the GSC and the 10k, or b) the half and the half. You'll be fully recovered from Dopey by then, but there's no sense in pushing yourself too hard again too soon. As an added bonus, running two halves in back to back weekends will move you up in the Half Fanatics. :)

I'm going to try for the Triple Crown for my first RunDisney race! :dogdance:

I am too excited! I've been wanting to do this for years and now I am going to stop being scared about it and DO IT!

I sent a request for the FB group. I'm going to need all the help and support I can get!

Tomorrow is AP registration day and I am nervous just thinking about it! It will be my first time doing AP registration. Are there any tips I need to know for it?

Get your Active.com profile set up ahead of time, make sure you can log into the AP area of the Disney website, and start refreshing at 11:55AM EST. Good luck!!

Hello. I'm new to this board. I plan on signing up for the Princess Half Marathon. This will be my first half marathon. I will be at Disney with my husband and 9 year old son so I will be running this all by myself. I feel funny running it by myself. Do other people run it without being in a group?

I've run the PHM by myself twice (and the Wine & Dine HM, as well), and will be running the 2016 PHM alone again. (My bf and I are doing the 5K & 10K together, though.) With over 22,000 runners participating, you're bound to find solo runners at this race, lol! Don't fret, you'll be fine going solo. This is a very supportive race; I've never seen so many strangers cheering each other on and just being kind in general. It's a great race experience, especially for first-timers.

I'm probably running alone, and I also felt funny about running alone because it seems to be such a 'sisterhood' type run where groups dress up and make it a girlfriend type event. I guess the plus to running alone is you can set your own pace. Running with a group, though, would add more fun to the experience and make the time go quickly. My boyfriend may do the 10K with me, but I'm on my own for the PHM (if I decide to do it - still on the fence).

It might be an idea to see who else is running alone and create a DisBoards group.
