Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Is anyone else traveling solo and doing the 5K? I had planned a trip to run the 5K with my Mom and Dad joining me for the Princess Breakfast afterwards, but my mom had an accident right before Christmas and she and Dad won't be joining me after all for this trip. She will be joining me later in the year, but next month I will be traveling alone to run the 5k. This is my first RunDisney race.

I have a question: I'm running the Star Wars half in Disneyland and then Princess in February. Will I earn the blue Coast to Coast medal? How about when I run the Tinkerbell in May? No pink Coast to Coast?

At Princess, you will earn the Blue Coast to Coast. In May, you will get the Pink Coast to Coast. They changed the rules for 2016!

I had a pretty good back-to-back training weekend (3 miles Saturday, 6 miles Sunday). It was super windy yesterday, and much warmer than the day before, so my pace was really affected by that. But, that's ok, no big deal. I also threw in an hour of yoga after my run yesterday, and felt really good afterward, but now I'm so sore! I have a yoga class at 1030am today, so I'm hoping that helps loosen up my stiff muscles.

Some of the clothes I ordered on Etsy to disneybound on our trip arrived over the weekend, so now I'm super-stoked for our trip! I want to start packing already!

Can anyone tell me how packet pick up for the kids races work? We are flying in from the west coast and our flight gets in around 6pm on Friday and I'm worried about making it to the expo to pick up the packet. I was going to have my mom pick it up but then I reread where it says the legal guardian must pick up the kids packet. Can anyone tell me how strict they are on that? I know for adult races you can't pick up the packet same day but maybe for the kids races since they are starting later?

I want to see your disneybound outfits @Luv2Run! This will be my first trip trying my hand at that, and I love to see ideas!

My CM Friend, who is running the 10K with me, does special character events and worked all 4 Marathon days. She ("friend"of Mickey) kicked off the 1/2 and full and then was at the Finish to high five all the runners.

Mickey's best memories from the weekend were of how he helped very tearful runners run the last 10 yards of the race. Yesterday, Mickey ran with a male runner who needed support from two friends to complete the last 3 miles. Mickey waved off the friends and the runner crossed the Finish Line with Mickey's physical support.

Such joyful memories for Mickey. I hope CM friend will be as joyful when we finish the 10K, although her training over the weekend was in 10 yard increments! ;)

That is so awesome! Is it wrong that I want to slow down so Mickey has to help me over the finish line???

You should plan for any type of weather. It is Florida, so anything is possible.

This is SO SO true!!! I've only participated in three runDisney weekends so far, but wow, anything is possible. And even when relying on the weather forecasts, things can change from the time you leave home to race morning(s.) So I'm following all of the advice to bring more than one pair of running shoes and plastic bags/disposable ponchos (in case of rain,) to bring matching running tights, long sleeves and short sleeves in case it's too cold for just a running tank, and to be prepared to slow down for humidity.

When I ran the PHM in 2014, I was shocked at how much the humidity impacted my run. I knew it might be warm, but was not ready for humid. I had to slow down from my indoor training pace a lot. And I still didn't feel great after the race. For marathon weekend in 2015, we visited my parents in SW Florida before the race and I was able to run a little to get used to the humidity. But the weather was all over the place. In the space of a week, we experienced highs in the 80s and lows under 40 degrees. We wore everything in our suitcases. By the time race weekend started, it was freezing - especially for the 5K - and I was glad I listened to everyone on these boards and was prepared! (Lucky for us, the day of the marathon was perfect!)

I may end up running the 5k alone because my cousin who was supposed to run with me may not be able to. I just got back from traveling solo for the Disneyworld half and had a blast!

I love this so much!!!

Just out of interest, where has everyone booked to eat the night before their races?

We have the following:
Wednesday - Il Mulino
Thursday (before 5k) - Boathouse
Friday (Celebrating DDs 5k & pre-10k) - Citricos
Saturday (Pre-half) - Lunch - Via Napoli
Dinner- The Wave or in our DVC villa, not sure yet
Sunday - CA Grill
Monday - Artist Point

Kinda scary seeing so many people (elite runners even) talking about how hard the full was today in 70 degrees and 100% humidity.

I had not thought to plan for rain...hmm need to buy some ponchos.

I bring three pairs of shoes, and a ridiculous amount of clothing. I will run in pair #1 for the 5k, then change to pair #2 to walk around in that day. 10k will be pair 3, then back to pair 1 for touring. Half will be pair 2 for the run, then back to #1 again for touring. It also gives me flexibility if runs are wet. If the forecast is particularly wet before I leave, I will likely bring a fourth pair. My husband thinks I am crazy Or, I may just pick up a pair of those Ariel shoes... I need to go try some on else where. I love the colors, but I am pretty particular about shoes.

As @pixarmom said, the weather has been all over the place. I too suffered through the humidity of the half in 2014, but thought the 10k weather that weekend was perfect. 2015, 5k was miserably cold, because I didn't have the right stuff with me (and for reference I'm just back from a 14 degree run so cold is what I'm used to). 10k started cold, but was perfect by the finish, and the half was great all the way for me. This year I will be sure to have my fleece headband and running gloves as well as smart wool socks. But, all my plans for costumes are based on warmish weather, that way I can layer stuff under if I need to. And don't trust forecasts. I didn't have cold weather stuff because when packed the forecasts were quite warm. But I went down the weekend before the race to visit family for a few days before Disney, and the the forecast changed a lot over those 7 days. So, in my opinion, look at the forecast, but bring things to layer if need be, even if it looks unnecessary.

I am managing to get back into training after all the time away due to my dad's illness. Got in 7 miles for a long run Friday. This weekend we are headed waaay up north in Vermont for skiing, so I need to get my run in before that. Maybe Thursday. The weather has sadly actually become more real New England like, so its going to be cold. The treadmill ban from my physical therapist will be harder to cope with now.

Thank you everyone who answered my dining question, was not expecting that many replies!!

I couldn't decide where to eat Friday night before the 10k, but now have lots of inspiration :goodvibes

Newbie to the marathon world. I've been following all the training and I'm super excited. My family is coming for the trip but we're staying off property. What's the best way to get to the race from off property? I'll have a car but I can't decide if I should try and drive or what so I thought I would ask the experts!

Got 17k done this morning. Started the morning with spin class @6:30 the music was good worked hard really didn't want to work that hard! Came home for breakfast, threw my clothes in the dryer to warm them up very frosty and cold. Pulled my gloves out of the dryer just before heading out the door, this was really nice! Decided to do my long run today because Wednesday morning I'm going to have my heel injected hope it helps. My run was really slow but I got it done. I have fluid sack on my heel every step hurts I think it's bursitis . Best with no shoes! I have been wrapping my heal with cushion pads helps a little. Hope the Dr can get this fixed. Trying to get this week's runs done before my appointment don't know what shape the foot will be in. Doing Hal Higdon train modifying it a little because I want 2 weeks taper. Hope this is enough for GSC.
Sounds like everyone is talking about restaurants, I have never been to DW. Should I be looking at making reservations or will we be able to walk in ?
