Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

5K was fun. Probably my favorite Disney 5K course so far - so much park time! Only 3 corrals for this one, which was surprising. Character turnout was okay (McQueen and Mater, Cowboy Chip & Dale, Pinnochio & Geopetto - the one we stopped for - and Snow White & Charming). Great race overall!

After the race I saw my first-ever bandits in the flesh - their bibs were 1. Exactly the same (same number, same name), 2. On the backs of their shirts, and 3. Had white edges and white paper where the safety pin holes should have been...the numbers looked a little fuzzy so they were clearly copied. Someone called them out on it and they got a deer-in-headlights look before shuffling as far away as they could. :sad2: Ugh. People are jerks.

Thanks for the pictures & report, @Ariel484 ! (I mean, I saw the pictures on Instagram already, but my computer screen is bigger so I'm happy to see them here too)

I can't believe people actually copied bibs and ran in them. Ridiculous. Some people ...

I'm a little disappointed in my first order with runningskirts.com. Last Friday I ordered from their 50% off sale. Monday I got shipping notification. Tuesday I got an email that the size I ordered is out of stock and would I like to substitute. I responded the same day and told them what I wanted. I haven't heard anything since then and my package still hasn't shipped!

Hello all. I've been lurking for a while now, but wanted to join in. I registered for my first Run Disney race on the day the Princess Half became available. I will be running the 5k in February with the hopes of coming back in 2017 to run the Princess Half, or at least the 10k.

My goal this year has been to be outside more and to be more active. This has lead to me running 3 5ks since April with another 3 planned before November. I am not a fast runner, and my "run" is a combination of jogging and walking (we call it a wog here at my house). I set a long term goal of running the Princess Half Marathon in 2017 thinking that it was already sold out for 2016. When I realized it was not on sale yet, but was going to be within a matter of days, I thought I should check out the registration process so I would be mentally (as well as physically) prepared to do it the following year. In the process I got sucked into the excitement and almost registered for the PHM for 2016 knowing full well I am not ready for that yet). I slept on it a night knowing it would sell out, and the next day I registered for the 5k. I figured at best I can use it as motivation to keep running through the winter months. At worst, I made a donation to Children's Miracle Network.

I didn't even tell my husband for another month because he doesn't want us to go to Disney in 2016, but somewhere else. I finally broke down and told him and he was very happy for me and said that just because he doesn't want to go, he sees no reason why I should not. I told my Mom who asked immediately if she could come cheer me on. So now, I'm going with my parents, staying at Wilderness Lodge and running my first Disney 5k in February.

I'm very excited and have been following along here for some tips and motivation so I thought I ought to say hello.

Just had the worse training run ever.....

Am trying a new supplement- a thermogenic (cellucor super HD extreme for anyone curious) and while I do okay with those in general; I think the increase in heart rate just did me in. This is the first time EVER that I have aborted a run. I literally was running along and struggling to run more than 45 seconds without needing to stop to catch my breath. Literally. I felt like I was never recovered. The easiest way to describe it is if any of you have ever done a heart rate test or cardio fitness kind of test where you're operating literally at your max heart rate. When that happens, no matter how much harder you push- your heart will not beat any faster. I'm not out of shape, I'm actually in great cardiac shape (thank the lord) but I think considering my heart rate not on thermogenics is typically around 175-180 when running, the addition of the supplement was just too much.

I'm so embarrassed because I made my intervals but at 3.2 miles I had to turn back. Which meant I got my distance to 6.5, but it took me about 1:30 give or take. I had to power walk the last bit. I literally could not run anymore. I've never aborted a run. I've never had a long run day where my distance went negative- my long runs are up at 8-10 miles right now. I can cover those 8-10 miles in the same time it took me to do today's distance. I'm beating myself up pretty hardcore. Every step I took, my muscles felt like ropes on my skeleton. At one point, I felt like pulling to the side of the rail trail and puking. I never felt like my heart was racing persay, I just felt like with every step I'd already run a marathon (no pun intended) and was trying to sprint to the finish line. Mentally, this was a terrible outing.

*sigh*

I guess at least I know if I need to, I can still walk the race and keep less than a 16 min/mi- but that's the only positive of today's run.

Feeling pretty beat up right now :(

I'm beating myself up pretty hardcore.

You know that it's because you took a supplement, though, so why beat yourself up? It wasn't your body, it was the drug. Sounds scary to me! If that happened with me, the bottle would be going in the trash, that's for sure.

I'm debating returning it for sure.

I've been fine on it otherwise- but today trying to exercise with it in my system was a no go. I don't (and didn't) get palpitations, racing heartbeat, etc. But that's the only thing I could chalk feeling that way up to- that it elevated my resting heart rate to the point that it maxed me out once I was actually asking my body to work.

I'm beating myself up because well, that's my Type A going into overdrive. That and I leave for HKDL and TKDLR this Friday so there will be no long runs between Friday of this week and Sunday of next. It leaves me with little room for error for the Wine and Dine at the beginning of November. Thankfully, I'm up to 10 miles- but losing the mileage this week and not running while I'm gone is making me worry. I don't think I'd lose my CV endurance for such a short stint, but as a beginner I really don't know.....

I'm late to the show but I just saw this thread today! I'm registered for the PHM 2016! I did it this year and it was my first half and I made so many mistakes on race day that I was only seconds away from getting swept! I managed not to get swept but did far worse than I wanted to do. 2016 will be personal redemption for me! Hope to meet some of you at the race! :)

Why can't you run while you're gone? Nearly every hotel has a gym with a treadmill these days. It's not as enjoyable as running outside, but it's still a good option while traveling. Plus, keeping active and exercising while traveling keeps your body and mind sharp and can help with jet lag.

I agree with this, you should try to get some running in while you are gone. The treadmill is not fun, but better than nothing.

Also, I'm jealous of your trip! Sounds like fun. :-)

Please share those mistakes with us. This will be my first Disney run and my first half marathon.
