Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Confession time: I kinda think I might want to go to do the 5k and 10k...but fly to DL solo and stay solo and just do it for myself. Eep. I have not fully told hubby so that talk is coming this weekend.
We are doing a big trip for Disney marathon weekend in Jan 2016, staying at deluxe property, taking my daughter to all the expensive castle breakfasts, dessert parties and BOG dinners, etc etc.
But I may need a mommy break...vacations are full "mom mode" and let's face it...are mom's of toddlers ever really relaxing totally on vacation?

So should I? My main reasons are 1) I want to go to DL so badly. 2) I'll only get to run through Epcot in Jan, and it's my dream to go by a castle. 3) I'm actually a huge fan of the theme and I'm a pandora fanatic too 4) I could do it on the cheap if it's just me.

I guess I need to decide by the end of this weekend! I have no interest in pushing myself to do the half though yet. Even if it meant more medals. I will still be jealous of people with lots of medals though.

Yes!!! Reasons you should... :goodvibes 5th anniversary of the race so it's going to be awesome. (the 5k and probably 10k will be celebrated just as much), the 5k for Tink is the best 5k there is (You start at the castle and end by World of Color and Little Mermaid in DCA, the entire course is inside the parks). The races are smaller than WDW so you have more room to move around. The Tink running crowd is probably one of the best out of all the rD races. There's a good possibility the 60th anniversary stuff including new fireworks and parade will be still going on so you'll get to experience that. And like you mentioned, you need a relaxing vacation and it's on Mother's Day when you should be doing what you want. ;)

I have a 4 miler on tap for tonight, so maybe I'll use it to work out my "can I, please" speech or just to work out the courage to even bring it up.

Well it's official now just got my receipt from TA for PDC!! With Princess & Tink. OH YES one of those pink C2C!!!
Yippee I'm in ! Three other girls from my running group are coming too.
Staying at the DL Hotel.

Would anyone who registered early please tell me what you paid in taxes and fees for the Pixie Dust challenge and 5k?
I'm on mailing lists for a lot of those runDisney travel agents and I got an email from one saying that for this weeken they are selling entries as entries only- no tickets or hotel attached. The princes are high than on the Disney site, but I'm pretty sure it's because all the fees are included in the prince and just wanted to check the math to make sure.
If that's the case I'm probably going to sign up this weekend and not stress on Tuesday!

I think it's normally registration + 7% or so.
Guessing...PDC: $353ish. 5K: $80ish. ???

Pixie Dust was $341.95
5K was $75.00

Thanks for the responses. Her prices are $355 for PDC and $90 for 5k. I'm sure the extra difference is her own commission.
Hmmmm. Now I need to decide if paying slightly more is worth having this finished and not have to worry about it Tuesday.

Good job getting your run in!!!!!! yea my hair days are always non workout days! Hate spending the money and then messing it up. BUT you did the right thing! So how were the chili bites? I love Schwanns. Haven't had them deliver in years though. Might need to look back into that...

I'm pretty happy that I ran 1.5 doing 2:1s on the treadmill last night. A couple folks on this thread know I was out with an IT band issue since April. Just started running again in July. PT started me at .5 miles with 30 second intervals so I'm really happy to be up to this point so far!
Yay for you to be back running. Take it slow though- don't want another injury.

That day was my non hair day. I had gotten the hair done Monday, and Tuesday was scheduled to run. I hated to mess it up, but it's soooo easy for me to just say I'll do it the next day and put it off again, that I jumped on the treadmill. And you know what? I had a kick butt run!

Oh, the chilli bites are amazing. I just heated four of them and two of the beer battered fish fillets that night. More than enough for dinner, esp post run. I will say that the chilli bites are a bit, em, rich? And I have a strong GI system, but let's say that I know I had em for dinner that night the next morning and keep it clean shall we ;)

Love Schwanns, but it's EXPENSIVE. the quality and taste make up for it, but if we weren't DINK's- I don't know that I'd be buying this stuff.

Awesome! That's definitely a great use of the time it takes to make dinner. I also hate messing up my hair ... but the run is more important sometimes!
I hated messing up the hair too. my hair is curly, so it's more noticeable/stark contrast with the flat ironed ends. But I just put it in a tight braided ponytail to run, and since I'm mostly a crown sweater, with a headband on during the run the majority of the outer part of the hair was fine. I did a light touch up and ponytailed the rest of the week. Not as sleek as fresh hair worn down- but running was the more important goal.

If you really want to do the race, you should totally do it...female-geared or otherwise. My brother ran the Princess Half with me in 2011 and he was okay with it. :teeth:

If I'm being honest, the Tink them doesn't really appeal to me all that much...but getting more runDisney bling does. That and the fact that I know people rave about the Tink courses. :)

And really, what better way to celebrate your birthday than by running through a Disney castle?!

I agree. Tink theme does nothing for me, but of the DLR races, I keep hearing how the 5k and 10k and half courses are so unique and awesome. I'm tempted to add the 5k onto the half that weekend, but don't want to over do it. Maybe next year....

Isn't that the truth though! Since its just me I'll take Super Shuttle most likely. I'll basically estimate that it will take 1.5 hrs from the time I land until the time I get to my hotel. Thanks! Haven't flown to Disneyland ever so all new to me. When you guys fly down for a race, do you check a bag? I just dont see me getting all my normal clothes and running clothes into a carry-on.

I check two bags. And take a carry on and personal item. Every time I fly. The checked bags go out nearly empty and come full with souvineers and stuff. But full disclosure, I have Platinum status with American Airlines- so I do not pay to check bags. Since it's not costing me extra, I take my full allowance. Even to Asia/Europe. I just modify my ground plans to deal with the hassles of luggage over there. Now, if I was doing a backpack style trip or say visiting 10 cities in two weeks kind of trip? For sure would not bring this much luggage. lol

Yeah, pretty much what she said. lmao

I registered early as a DVC holder for the half only. Registration was $199, Active.com fees were 13.44, live in MA so no taxes. Total was $212.44
Sorry that it's not the others, but hopefully it's still helpful!

If her prices include taxes, it's not too much more than the AP prices. For a less stressful registration process, the $10 or so difference is worth it to not have to be stressed out on Tuesday morning.

The Princess registration process was a mess. RunDisney and Active were both showing as down and only because links were posted on Facebook and then DIS was I able to complete two registrations.

If you don't what the stress of general registration and willing to pay a little for the service. For the Dumbo in September I tried to get in on general registration had 2 devices trying to get in to the line. No luck watched it sell out so disappointed! Started phoning the TA 's looking for a bib, found a TA it was so easy. Thought to myself why am I putting myself through this when that was so easy. So I now have been getting my bib 's through the TA 's in need a hotel any way. It was so easy and I was in for my event! Just depends on you , you have to weigh the facts.

We didn't pay any additional fees through our TA. Only qualification was purchasing a single day park ticket.
We ended up buying our 4 day tickets, and hotel through the TA. But there were no additional race fees.

Predictions for sell outs?

I say 10K will sellout first in 1 hour, Pixie Dust next at 2 hours, kid's race at 2 1/2, 5k in 4 hours, and half may not sell out at all and if it does... In a couple of months

I don't know how you guys get out of bed and go running. My mind is just not set for that. I need to lace up and get in at least 6 miles this AM. Not really feeling it at this point. I much prefer to run at the end of my day than at the beginning.

Blech.

Think about that BLING!! Focus on that, just think how good it will feel hanging on your neck!

Thanks for the moral support Kelly. I ended up sucking it up and going to a local trail (paved). Of course by the time I got there, I had to run over the noon hour, but I got in 8 miles. I wasn't too fast, 13:27 avg pace per my garmin- but it's hard to be fast in the heat (esp at noon) and when breakfast was a banana and greek yogurt. But, I did it....

It is my longest run to date and that last mile kicked my ***. I'm feeling it now. lol

I assume since she isn't making anything else a requirement fur the race bib that she is adding on the regular money she woukd get if that were the case. I understand that TAs are in it to make money, but in the interest if full disclosure I wish they would be up front about what I'm paying for.

Last year the first sell out was the 10 k, 29 hours after everything went on sale. I'm hoping that this year will be as slow since I am now gambling on general registration
