Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Yikes. That 10K medal from last year was terrible and difficult to read. I hope we get a good one this year since this will be my first 10k!

Okay, I know that if I don't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all...but last year's PDC medal was...ugly. My least favorite rD medal to date.

That interested me enough to see what it looked like, and I agree it isn't the most attractive. Something about the simple designs plus the colors chosen? Though the explanation on the disneyparks blog did kinda make me want to see the Pirate fairy. I think really need to work on embracing the fairy theme, though I still may dress as inspired by Sully. Is it to odd to dress off theme?

I'm trying not to worry too much. It's an anniversary medal. It's going to be awesome. (this is me trying to be super positive).

I was planning on dressing off theme so I hope that's not too bad. It's still Disney so I'm thinking no?

Yeah, once I read the explanation it definitely made more sense to me and I actually sort of admired the thought that they put into it. I still didn't like it, per say, but the blog post did help. :rotfl2:

It will be awesome. I'm expecting some kind of spinner medal...runDisney seems to love using spinners on anniversary years.

Dress however you want to dress! Clothes that are comfy and make you feel good. :)

I think I might go sort of pirate-y for the 5K, and for the 10K and half I'm thinking of doing more flower-y/nature-y looks.

YIPPEE got my pixie dust training shirt!!!
Dec 1st closing fast to start my training
Ultimate goal that pink C2C!

So excited for this event since I'm a Legacy runner but just realized it's only 3 weeks after the Dark Side Challenge! I know lots of people do back to back weekends in January...anyone have any advice for recovering and getting back up to speed quickly?

Oh and as for my 2 cents on the medal discussion, I've always thought they limited themselves a little too much by naming this this Tink half, it just doesn't allow for many options when it comes to medals. I love the half marathon medals so far though so I'm anxious to see what they do for the anniversary.

Like other people mentioned, you'll be fine off theme. I did Avengers last year as the Matterhorn and nobody downplayed it. If anything, you'll get more comments on it b/c you'll stand out more, but in a good way. :goodvibes

W/ 3 weeks in b/w you should be fine and recovered by then. Just make sure to really stretch out and maybe some yoga especially the days following the DSC. Take it easy on the mileage the week after and then maybe an 8-9 the week before Tink. I'll be in the same boat as you ~ I'm 99% sure I'm registering for a race the 3rd weekend in Mar and looking at the calendar b/w that weekend and Tink, it's 7 weeks and I'll have races in 5 of those. :scared1:

Whaoo just have to share! I'm coming with a couple of girlfriends, Daisy is celebrating her 70 th birthday and she is running the 5k and 10k, Deb has just retired and she is running her first half. This so awesome! What a great girls weekend and I found a perfect way home back to Vancouver BC. There is a cruise ship coming back to Vancouver leaving from San Pedro May 8th. ( Island Princess ) Soo perfect to celebrate their victories ! We are booked ! Eating, spa, relaxing our way back home!

I know we sometimes complain about RunDisney's corrals and all, but after doing my first non-Disney race this morning, I have to say that I am thankful for how well they do at managing chaos. Today's Turkey Trot was literally a free-for-all and the sprinting out of the starting line screwed up my pacing for the rest of the race. Slow people were in the front and the speedsters were in the back. I like running with my own pacers and it took until Mile 2 to get everything straightened out.

I'm with @flvy - more excited to start training than Thanksgiving. I don't like Turkey nor do I want to eat!

@courtneybeth I was sooooo jealous of your turkey medal. There were NO Turkey trots or races within an hour of where I was. I was so upset. This will be the last year with no turkey related races for me on Thanksgiving.

Aww - I am so sorry! It's weird because there were at like 4-5 in just the Orange Country area.

Hubs and I have a rule: no medal, no race. :P

To be fair I was in the middle of nothing in north eastern Maine visiting my family. There isn't much of anything going on up there.

There is a beautiful 10 mile race in Newport RI that I really want to do but I'm on the fence because of a lack of evidence about a medal. I'll never be the fastest I don't need prize money, a tee shirt, or swag I just want a little momento in the form of a medal. That's like 45% of the rundisney temptation. Those very pretty and very big medals.

Spoiled? Maybe. I don't care. Haha

For those of y'all that ran last year - was there any pink Coast to Coast stuff? Or was it all the same, traditional C2C items?

I'll be booking my hotel in the next few weeks. Anyone hear anything good or bad about Desert Inn? It's on the top of my list right now but I'm not sure yet.

I'm also waiting on the shipping on my first Garmin watch. I'm so excited to not have to run with my phone! I keep window shopping cold weather gear though. I'm not looking forward to those prices at all.

I can't tell you about the hotel, but I can tell you about location - it's one of, if not THE, closest Harbor-side offsite hotel you can find. You cross Harbor right outside the hotel and then it's a quick walk to the Esplanade/the Parks. Now, the walk to the Expo/Start-Finish line will be further, because you have to go through Downtown Disney - but honestly? It didn't bother me at all. I enjoyed the warm-up walk to the start line, and after the half, we didn't even go back to the hotel (we were staying at the Fairfield Inn) - we just cleaned up quickly in the restroom, changed and threw our crap in a locker in the Esplanade and went straight into the parks!

No pink stuff, just the generic shirt and pin. For the life of me I still don't get why there isn't more C2C merch. They make a killing in regular race stuff, this would just add to their profits.

I've stayed there before and liked it. Both times I was all the way in the back which was nice noisewise and like Keels mentioned you're really close to the parks. Rooms are a pretty decent size, one time I was there w/ my parents and sister and it wasn't overly crowded. It's a typical middle of the road parks hotel. It has a fridge and I think microwave which might come in handy and the windows have plantation shutters which I love. :goodvibes The pool is inside, but haven't used it so not sure how it is. Their parking is kinda limited so keep that in mind if you'll have a rental car.
