Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

DL experts, when do they usually post park hours? Also, how early do people start lining up for the expo? I know it was about an hour before at WDW

I forget whether you've told us what your outfits are  Will you be sharing when they're done?
I feel like they are barely worth posting...I don't go all out like others do. :)

5K - Mouseketeer with 2 BFFs (have Mouseketeer shirt and blue skirt, need to decide how much I care that skirt is too dark and possibly get another one, and need to buy mouse ears at DL)

10K - Trio of Villains with 2 BFFs (Ursula, Maleficent, Evil Queen) - this one is just black running skirt, Raw Threads shirt (black) and a headband, and I have all of those

Half - 60th Anniversary Minnie (have a red running skirt, red running shirt and sparkly red visor - need to figure out a light blue sparkly "belt" like Minnie has)

Oy. Not looking forward to the expo rush!!

I screenshotted a post from this thread that said that people were lining up at 6AM for the Tink expo that opened at 10...!!!

Wow, that seems so early. I won't be doing that. Maybe 830 or 9, but def not 6. That's insane.

Ugh! Now Expo stress is up on the list! It looks like it opened at Noon on Thursday last year. I don't think I'll go right when it opens, but I may have to with the way the rest of my Thursday is shaping up.

And I have to come up with a 5K costume.

The site says 10, they'll probably let people in starting around 9:30ish. They did that w/ Tink and I think SW. I heard the line for Tink wasn't too bad early, but I know people got there that early. SW was crazy from the get go, but the SW fans are a little more intense I guess you could say. But w/ this being the 10th, who knows what could happen.

And if they do new NB shoes, for Tink, the 1st day the virtual queue was for runners only and you had to provide your bib, Fri and Sat it was open for anyone.

OK. *Think* I've got a 5K costume idea ...

I'm going to try to be "World of Color" - black running top with the Mickey face on it like Mickey's Wheel of Doom, and then I'm going to make a rainbow glitter/sparkle skirt - kinda like this:

@sumlee don't you have this skirt?

oy. Time to start strategizing!

I want one like that. Thinking it may be easier to buy one than make it. I've made the solid color ones.

Yeah, I think I'm going to make it instead of shelling out $40 for it. Confetti Dot fabric is on sale at JoAnn for 50% off right now

I wish I could see what the underside looks like and the shape of the skirt the ruffles are attached to. Though, I may cut the fabric and piece it together in vertical stripes that I'll sew together in the traditional A-line type style of the solid color skirts versus the ruffles.

But the ruffles are REALLY cute and different. I may just go ahead and order the fabric and make up my mind when I get back from the All-Star game on Thursday.

I did get my "Mickey Fun Wheel" sunburst logo traced, so all I have to do is order the HTV and that will be ready to go!

Looks like I've got some heavy duty sewing to do next weekend!

First off... Just got back from a family vacation to Disneyland. I'm excited for each of you to experience the 60th Anniversary stuff! Its wonderful. (If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to share what I know.) The fireworks and Paint the Night are amazing. The new version of World of Color is sadly not as good as the original for several reasons (but still fun), there is great 60th merchandise and food around the resort, and both parks look AMAZING.

Very excited about the medals and that we finally got confirmation on the 10K Theme. Villains will be extremely fun, so I hope they really load up the course with plenty of characters. While I know there will likely be dining spots open for the next few weeks I got mine all locked in. I did have a minor freak-out when the dining website wasn't working for me at Midnight, the night I could first make a reservation. And then I randomly woke up in the middle of the night so I thought I would check again... And the website said there were no openings for he breakfast I wanted.... Ahhhhh. But when I woke up the next morning and checked again it worked fine. And I got each time and restaurant I wanted.

Excited to see the Race/Weekend Guide and Corral placements soon (Guessing at July early Aug).

How can Minnie be at more than one breakfast?

We aren't the only ones who "runDisney"... Minnie is always busy running between locations, trying to greet all the guests she can ;)

I'm SO FREAKIN' EXCITED about the 60th stuff - especially Paint the Night and the new fireworks. I'm so glad I got the ticket to the Anniversary Party to see PTN with a smaller crowd for the first time, because I hear it's nuts trying to get a good spot.

That makes me sad about WoC, which has become my favorite nighttime show at either Disney park. I lowered my expectations when I heard NPH was doing narration, so maybe I will skip it this time around. I haven't seen Fantasmic! at Disneyland yet - would you pick that over the current edition of WoC?

What breakfast are you doing? We have Steakhouse 55 booked for the group after the Half, but I'm trying to decide what to do on Friday morning after the 5K.

I have the Plaza booked right now for 8:40 a.m., but I'm thinking about moving to either Surf's Up or Goofy's Kitchen at 7:30 - it would be easier for me to kill time between the end of the race AND park opening, and also knock out some character photos since I have PP+. But I JUST. CAN'T. DECIDE.

Park hours are normally posted 45 days out, but they often won't lock in the entertainment schedule until 30 days out.

Last year the expo opened at 10am on the Thursday. My plan was to go and line up at 9:30am, and they were already letting people in. Not sure how long people had been lining up for.

Our strategy was actually to do packet pick up first, then we went back to the merchandise. We waited maybe half an hour in a very civilised queue, and arrived to a reasonably quiet, well-stocked shop. There was still plenty of everything left in different sizes. Once we'd done our shopping, we had to line up for another 10 minutes or so to check out. While we'll probably do merchandise first this year, I'm not going to panic about being the first there or anything.

Oh, that does ring a bell! They sound great :thumbsup2

Back-to-back 2/9.5 is done! MAN was that 9.5-miler hard.

Thoughts...
- I need to get up earlier to do these long runs - DUH, it IS summer
- I need to hit the Body Glide harder...
- Related...chafing sucks :(
- One week closer!! :yay:

Yikes! I haven't had too many issues with chafing yet this season, but it is winter for us, so I'll be hitting the bodyglide hard for the event!

OK. *Think* I've got a 5K costume idea ...

Yesterday was our humidist hottest day this summer (in Nebraska we've had such a mild summer so far, which isn't normal) so I know how you feel, my run was very hard, felt like a dead noodle & had chafing which rarely happens. I jumped in the pool with clothes right after as changing to swimsuit would have been to hard with the sweat! Hoping Disneyland won't be crazy hot, but at least I guess we'll be prepared! I can't remember if it gets humid there or not or just hot?
