Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Congrats. Still waiting for regular registration to decide if I'm gonna do it.
Got any good suggestions for cheapo airfare from DC area? We typically fly out of Dulles but can go Reagan, BWI and Richmond if necessary.

Best I'm seeing so far (kayak.com) is Air Alaska for $345 into/out of DCA/LAX. I'm playing the waiting game to see what pops up over the next few weeks.

As a former Washingtonian, I'd estimate that's about the best airfare you'll get. Last year I booked my airfare right around this time. I went IAD/LAX & paid about $315. You might also want to try flights to SNA & see if they are any cheaper.

I'm hoping to get around that price for Virgin America. I much prefer to fly them but right now they are running around $100 more than Air Alaska.

Since only 1of4 made it in via early reg, we decided to go with Get travel. Got confirmation this evening that the remaining 3 are GOOD TO GO!!

In our opinion worth the little extra for the piece of mind. Now on to flights and a room.

As part of your planning, don't forget that Disney typically makes a yearly price increase on park tickets sometime around May. Be sure you have purchased your park passes before then to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the reminder :thumbsup2 The AUD is likely to keep dropping too, so we'll be pre-paying what we can and booking things as soon as we have the money!

Yay! Another Aussie :cheer2: We did the 5k and 10k last year and had an absolute blast :thumbsup2 Are you going anywhere else in the US while you're over there? .

Yes! We start in Anaheim on August 11 and have tickets to D23 Expo, then head to WDW for 10 nights, cruise on the Disney Dream then back to DL for the races - so excited - how bout you?

I'm leaning toward doing this, even though I am going to be there just 3 weeks before for the Expo.

Do you want to adopt me? Because that sounds amazing!!

I registered for DDD and 5K. This will be my first trip to Disneyland, though I have been to Disney World about 30 times. (DH ran the first Marathon in 1994 and is Perfectly Goofy and Dopey. I am a beginner, just starting my running program after retirement!) I couldn't get the link up until 12:03 even with constant refreshing, so by the time I was on the registration page I was in such a frenzy that I misspelled my first name. Left one letter slap out!!! I didn't realize it until I got my confirmations!!! I have already emailed runDisney to see if it can be corrected. Maybe this one should be under "Duh" moments! LOL :)

We registered for the DDD on Tuesday as well. Ran the Rebel Challenge in DL two weeks ago; our first visit to DL since we were tiny kids. We are DW regulars though. We found DL's Cinderella's Castle hilarious. It looks like a gingerbread house compared to the one in MK at DW! :rotfl2: Surprised the heck out of us the first time we saw it in daylight! Overall, we found DL felt smaller than MK at DW - the streets shorter and narrower, and the 'lands' closer together. Guessing it's an available land issue. DL was the test, DW is the full project, sort of thing. Not having MBs was weird too, and only one FP at a time  Cars Land was super cool.

Wow that's a lot of Disney!

We've only got a couple of weeks available for this trip, so after a week at DLR, we're heading over to the east coast for a week (still working out exact plans, but possibly New York and Boston, we're flying into Newark). The way our flights work, we get a free first class domestic flight, so had to take full advantage of that! We had to book flights through HK, so of course we'll pop in to HKDL along the way :thumbsup2

We found DL's Cinderella's Castle hilarious.

It's not Cinderella Castle in Anaheim.

It's Sleeping Beauty Castle. Different princesses, different princes, different realms, lands, and probably even times.

The centerpiece of Disneyland is the Matterhorn. A castle cannot be bigger than a tall mountain.

Sad that having no MB felt weird; MBs are soooo new. As is FP+.

So, I just had a chance to read the stories and watch the videos about the 60th Anniversary additions - all the nighttime entertainment!

I'm so excited I'll get to experience it all in September now! But how am I supposed to go to bed at a decent hour when there are so many new things to see??

Yes, that is the trouble over race weekend  It's one reason why we've snuck a few days either side of the weekend, so we'll have opportunities to stay up late :thumbsup2

Yeah - with us planning to do baseball games at least Friday, but probably Saturday as well, I'll definitely need to get in late on Wednesday so I have full park days on Thursday and Sunday.

FYI for those that missed out on DDD - Get Sports has added more DDD spots on their site.

Acclaim also has DDD available, as they haven't started selling their bib allotment yet. They are also doing a two-installment payment plan because they can only sell the packages, which makes the initial cost so high.

Anyone have ideas on the character theme for the 5k and 10k? Or will we not know that until medal designs are released? Plan to sign up for DDD but may do the 5k if it's a cool theme.

Speaking of medals, when do they usually release the designs for this particular race?

I have no idea. The medals last year (Lilo & Stitch) were SO precious! Especially the 5K medallion! I was so sad I wasn't running!

I'm not sure that there's a consistent timeline with the medals...it looks like they released the Princess Half medals in November, so 3 months before the race weekend. There's no way any of the Disneyland races will still be open then (in fact I'd guess they'll sell out in a day...maybe a little more than a day for the half). But who knows!
