Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Take this with a big grain of salt as it's likely to change several times between now and January 8th but this was one forecast at a month out earlier this week... ;):rolleyes1

Well I would definitely be happy with that. That is much better than January weather in Wisconsin.

If she has to skip this Saturday, does she just miss this long run, and do the 6 or 7 miles scheduled for next weekend? I don't think we want to try 26 next week, because that only leaves a 2-week taper, and we'll want all 3 weeks. Will she be okay with effectively having a 6-week "taper" since our 23-mile run?

Agree with the others on not trying to make up the 26 mile run. Many programs only go through 20, so she's still in a good place having gotten through a 23 mile run. My wife (then-girlfriend) missed getting to 26 around this stage of training -- along with other runs -- but was able to complete the marathon. Going to 26 isn't absolutely necessary for training, and is more beneficial mentally.

Having somebody with you to run will already take some of the mental edge off since you can support one another, and IMO the last 6 miles of the Disney marathon are well chosen to get you across the finish line. While you're often running ~5 miles on empty roadways between each park from the start of the race to WWOS, you have Hollywood Studios, the Boardwalk and Epcot all packed into the last ~5 miles. For us anyway, it provided a great distraction from the late stage aches and pains and gave us shorter range targets to run toward.

I hope your wife feels better soon and that you stay healthy yourself between now and then! Good luck and have fun!! :thumbsup2

Hi, Mouseketeers! My wife and I are following the RunDisney Galloway training plans on rundisney.com. This Saturday is our last looooooooooong run of 26 miles. However, my wife seems to have contracted the Plague that's going around our kids' school, so we're not sure she'll be up to 26 miles. While I'm hoping she'll bounce back, I'd like some advice. I'm so jazzed about Marathon Weekend!!!! Doug
First, definitely no running if she's sick. Staying healthy is priority number one for the next three weeks. Skip the long run this weekend if she's not better. That said, I'd want to do more than just six miles next weekend. A six week taper is pretty long. I would suggest getting in 10-14 just to remind your legs and mind that you've got a marathon coming up. It's not a killer run, but it'll keep her sharp during her taper.

Is it bad that I'd like things about 5-10 degrees cooler? :ducks:

Not at all! I'm totally with you. Keep the lows in the mid-40s and the highs in the mid-50s until Monday. Then we need warmth and sun for DATW. :)

Not for me.....I have my FW Half Marathon on Monday at 0330, so keeping the morning cool will still be preferred. At sea Tuesday on the Dream it can warm a bit since I only have a 10K then on Wednesday the 5K on Castaway Cay better be comfortably warm.

Already Dopey MCFlurry John

To me low to mid 50s is perfect running weather, so hoping for that although I suspect it will be a bit warmer. As long as it's above 45 at start time, I'll still run in my running skirt. Just have to have some thowdown clothes to keep me warm before the start.

If we can get some lows in the 40s for at least marathon day, I would be quite happy with that. That means the highs will probably only hit somewhere in the 60s by the time I am finishing. I figure my corral will go off about 6am, which is the time I have been starting my long runs. That is about as perfect as it gets for me.

How many laps is 10k on the dream?

You just made me almost cough my sesame chicken on the screen! :lmao:

I sympathize. I seem to be picking up whatever's going around the kid's school as well. Gotta love it! Here's hoping it's just a cough and goes away soon!

And that The Plague is gone by the time of the marathon!!! :goodvibes:shamrock:

It would absolutely suck to be a phlegm machine during the 26 mile run. It happened to me during training for a few weeks. Ugh. Or not be able to run.

I got a call from my doctor this evening telling me that there is no way that I can do the half marathon next month

Dangit. :-(

I hope you feel better soon! My wife's going through something similar. It's all about finding the cause of the anemia and treating it. She's still going at it, but supplements seem to be helping a great deal.

Minus the storms, this is about perfect for me! :thumbsup2 Maybe even a tiny bit cold in the mornings for a shorts/tank combination.

Looking at any forecasts right now is beyond someone just guessing and putting something there for the sake of putting it out there. It's not even worth looking at it until 7 days out and even then the forecast can still do a drastic change.

Just saw merchandise post by RunDisney and now I'm mad. Visors are useless to me. I wear hats for sun protection all around not just from the sun glare. So a visor is going to do nada. Sucks because I like there hats. Part of me is hoping they are doing a regular hat along with the visor but I'm not hopeful.

Otherwise the merchandise looks good I guess. Not sure what to make of the new pins design. Will have to see them in person I guess.

The merch preview :love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

(also, to PP^^, i'm sure they will have hats too. it is just a preview; not everything they will offer. i can't imagine them not having hats.)
