Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

If you time it right, the wait is only about 10 minutes

Happened to me just this year for the Half, although I didn't set out for that intended shorter time.:)

I am glad they reduced the release times between corrals. I expected to be waiting a solid 30+ minutes (I was in corral E). But I think I was on the course before 6:00. (Might be off on that one)

you don't really have to make extra time to walk around; you will be doing quite a bit of walking just to get from the bus to the starting line. i didn't GPS it while i was there but from google earthing it, it's about 1.5-2 miles give or take from where the bus drops you off, across the epcot parking lot, and down the service roads that take you out to the corrals and starting line.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but are there porta-potties at the start line? The reason for my pre-race walk is to get my internal plumbing up to speed that early in the AM so it still sounds like a pre-bus walk might be the best plan.

There are plenty of porta-potties in the corral areas, and lots of people using them. They will be using them even as the corrals are going off. At the marathon this year I saw plenty of people running from the bathroom to get to their corral right as they were starting.

Port-a-potties are a mess!!! You will not believe the wait! We were in corral "A", and literally got there when the gun went off. We waited 1/2 hour to use them.

One more reason not to get there early. No lines for anything if you arrive at the tents at 445-5. :)

You'll have a short walk from the drop off area across the parking lot to the tents. Plenty of porta-potties just inside the bag check tents. Then there's a long walk to the actual starting area. Lots of porta-potties there too, with more than enough bushes & trees along the way and at the corrals.

At the Wine & Dine this past year we got there plenty early. Skipped the porta potty line in the warm up/holding area, and started the long walk to our corral. Of course that's when my plumbing woke up. There was a small group of porta potties at the back of the first row of corrals. Long lines. Made it through the line and back to the corral just as we were moved up to the start line.

Then there is always the random stray people that take off from the start line, get a half mile or so into the race, and then veer off into the woods on either side of the road.

Gotta do what you gotta do.

If you think you can hold it, MK has very nice clean bathrooms with sinks :thumbsup2 That's what I ended up doing last year. Totally worth it!

Of course, if you're running for time then better get in that porta potty line early!

The pops (portopotties) I saw at the corral area were beyond the fencing though, so if is wanted to use them I would have had to leave the corral and go join the line. People taller and/or more gymnastically inclined were vaulting over the (to me, above waist high) fences but I can't do that. What I learned is...if you see a pop before you get to your corral, get in line for it. :)

I am not running the marathon this time around, am doing the half though. I wonder if Santa Clause is running again this year coming? I think this past January he did the Dopey.

My favorite kind of port o potty. The porcelain variety. lol. Personal favorite is the restrooms a little off the course after Tomorrowland to the left of the Tea Cups. Tends to be less busy but is still popular.

Submitted a 1/2 for Proof of time from Sunday, 2:02, for the Full! My brother submitted a 1:37. Based on last years corrals I'm hoping maybe H for me and C for him, does that seem about right to anyone from last year!

I ran the full this year and submitted a 2:02 half as my proof of time. I was placed in corral G. I thought I was perfectly placed! I never felt congested, never felt slowed down by others and didn't feel I was slowing others down myself. It was a perfect flow.

So what's everyone's training schedule like for this race?

After running my first 10k last month, I'm moving up to the Half Marathon for this race. I marked out a 13.1 mile course around my neighborhood and ran that distance for the first time last Sunday: 3:02:30 with 900' of elevation change according to Runkeeper. I plan to keep doing that same distance each weekend with a sprinkling of shorter runs during the week.

This was my first experience needing significant recovery time. It took until Wednesday before my legs felt mostly normal again. I learned the hard way that a warm shower followed by a nap in a warm bed is NOT the best way to recover from a long run. Lesson learned.

You're registered for the Half in Jan 2015 and are already running that distance? You might want to think about transferring to the Full or even the Goofy!

I know everybody is different but I know I couldn't/wouldn't run 13.1 miles every weekend. I recently ran 3 Half Marathons in 4 weeks and thought I was borderline "pushing it"...and I'm training for the Dopey.

My own personal rule-of-thumb (usually) is two weeks between long runs when they're 10 or more and three weeks when they're over 15.

Again, everybody is different but if I ran 13 miles every weekend I'd burn myself out after about six weeks...but, if you're up for that more power to you! That's awesome!

Morning all. Does the course go through the uk at Epcot or does it just miss it out and go straight into France? Can't quite make it out on the course maps. I'm already thinking where to strategically place family members.
Cheers

Yes it goes through the UK,before entering through the International Gateway runners go through a backstage area and then enter Epcot World Showcase through a gate in the UK where you see the three red phone booths.Canada is the only country that gets no marathon love.

Awesome to know! Thanks for sharing!
