Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Hi Everyone! We are planning a girls only trip to run just the 10K. We can just register for the 10K, correct? And is that usually on the Friday?
Does the 10K registration quickly sell out? I want to make sure everyone knows this and registers as soon as we can.
Just trying to figure out dates. Thinking we can arrive on Wednesday and leave on Saturday?

Yes, the 10k is Friday. I don't remember how fast it sold out, but it was one of the faster ones this year. Maybe a day? I'm not exactly sure.

This year was the inaugural 10k race, so it sold out quickly. Possibly in about 6 hours or so (not positive about that, but I know it was less than a day). This year may be a little longer to sell out since it is the 2nd, but I would still be ready to sign up on Day 1.

Wow! Glad I asked. Thanks. I will make sure everyone is on board to sign up as soon as it opens up!

Just finished the PHM, and I'm signed up for DL half this August (yay C2C!)
My boyfriend and I decided we want to go down in January - a few of his coworkers are going too, for Dopey. Still trying to decide which race(s) we're going for, but we want to for sure!

Actually the 5k, 10k and Dopey sold out quickly. I felt kind of bad for many who come down in support of friends and family and who want to run only the 5k. I know many were not aware of the Dopey and were thinking they had months before the 5k opened. Dopey took just over half the spots in each of the two smaller races forcing the early sell outs.

From a historical perspective, understand that Goofy sold out quicker in years 2-3 than it did for year 1.

This year expect Goofy to sell out much quicker with the 10th anniversary medal on the line.

Good to know! Just ran the PHM, and my kids traveled with me - we all ran the 5K on Friday and had a great time! They definitely want to run the 5K during marathon weekend in 2015. I was thinking I just had to be quick for my marathon registration, and wait on the 5K, but it sounds like I should just register for everything right away!

I'm doing Dopey again. Which is funny since when I ran my last of 4 or 5 long runs (over 13 miles) I swore that I'd never ever run a marathon again.

Actually - in 2015 I'm planning on running all of the runDisney races (except EEC if it even happens). Which with tomorrow's announcement will add another costly weekend to my calendar, but I won't be able to say no whatever the weekend ends up being...even if it is a star wars theme.

Great Thank you, will book the time off work and have the funds reay to rock and roll in April.

I knew the 10K would sell out fast but it was sold out in less than 8 hours. I was very surprised the 5K sold out so quickly. If I recall correctly the 2013 5K still has spots available as late as September 2012!

I plan on doing my first full in 2015 and I know the full is usually the very last to sell out, but I have other family wishing to do the 5K and 10K so sign ups should be fun!

The reason that the 5K and 10K sold out so fast was strictly Dopey,if you have like 7,000 signing up for Dopey, how many spots could there be left for the smaller races which don't have the capacity limits of the full and half marathons.I expect fewer people to sign up for Dopey this year but even so it'll still sell out fast and I think Disney should cap registration for Dopey at like 2,500 to open up more spaces in the 5K and 10K which are more geared for the whole family to run.I'm sure there were many people who only wanted to do the 5K or 10K who got denied last year due to how fast the smaller races sold out.

That's never going to happen. If anything, Dopey will be capped higher this year.

That's fine, maybe one year I'll want to try Dopey and I don't want to stress out about it selling out in 3 hours, but if they were to raise the cap on Dopey then they should raise the cap on the 5K and 10K to allow others not doing Dopey to run it.I've never done the smaller races on marathon weekend, only the full marathon but I was there as a spectator for the 10K this year and compared to the full and half marathons it wasn't very crowded so I would think they could do it,they would have to put more corrals compared to this year but it could be done.I'm planning on Goofy for 2015 and since it's the anniversary I plan to register during the AP period just in case it were to sell out very fast.

Well it all made sense when I found 7,000 out of the 10,000 spots for both the 5K and 10K were reserved for Dopey runners. If that is the case they should raise the total runners allowed in the 5K and 10K, the 5K at the very least due to it being a more family-oriented run.

Actually, that is only part of the reason. The main reason that the 10k sold out so quickly is because it was the inaugural 10k race. I agree that they could add a few more spots to the 5k and 10k, but I'm not sure if they would. Don't think it makes sense to have 12,000 - 15,000 runners for these races. I'm sure as you increase the size of the race, there become logistics issues.

I was only a spectator at the 10K but I thought the moving corrals and launches went very smoothly. Quickly too. Unless its a safety or logistics issue, adding one more corral (~2,000 runners) wouldn't be that big a deal.

Okay hoping someone who has done it at some point in the last two years can answer this. I've done Princess and Wine and Dine. So I have a basic idea of what the front half of the Marathon and the back half look like as far as elevation change goes. And hell I tried to do the Marathon back in 2012 but had to pull up between mile 15 and 16. So I even know decently what the back stretch between Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom is like. The one big blank spot is running World Wide Center of Sports. I know what like going in and out of it is basically since Wine And Dine starts there. But it doesn't run inside there. So I'm just kind of wondering what the course is like as a whole inside there.

I can't link it, but, Google Images has a good map of the WWoS part of the course. I honestly had so much fun during those miles.

As far as elevation goes, it was completely flat if I remember right. It's mostly just lots of winding turns, where you think you're almost out, then realize you're not. There's also running around the track, then around the baseball stadium.

Very flat and LOTS of turns. I hated WWoS. Couldn't keep a rhythm.

ESPN Wide World was the one part of the marathon that I did not like at all. Neither did my wife and a friend of ours that has run multiple Disney Marathons.

All the winding around back and forth through that area just seems to take forever and the paths are narrow. I really wish they would figure out a way to not have to run as much in there.
