Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

DW started getting blisters in the exact same spot. I picked her up some new socks at Lukes Locker yesterday, and once the guy found out why I was buying new socks he also steered me toward 2tom's anti-chafing product. He said he uses it all the time now over body glide because it doesn't come off as he sweats. She just started using it, so I'm not 100% on it yet - but DW had said she thought she was sweating off the body glide during the longer runs. (FYI - Long for us, is probably much shorter than long for you - LOL)

I'll have to check it out. I normally don't have Body Glide sweat off so much as rub off from constant contact with fabrics. Thanks for the suggestion.

Super tight wetsuit on/off, friction from 112 miles of bicycling then a marathon....I use http://chamoisbuttr.com/ for my Ironman triathlons, bike rides and every time I pound the pavement even if only a 5K.

Hi all,
Apologies if you've been over this already, I did have a trawl through and couldn't find anything. I'm already thinking about pre and post race fuel (foooood!!).
The night before the race we're booked at the flying fish cafe, and the evening of the race were in teppan edo. Anyone got any thoughts on either of these as pre/post race eateries? Also what do others have booked and for what reason?
I booked a restaurant in Epcot post race so I can sample alcoholic beverages from around the globe as big well done to me

As everyone is different. I have a somewhat sensitive stomach but nothing specific. Morning of pre race I go with just energy chews. Gatorade or Stinger. Day before a race I keep things simple. No big carb load. Just simple foods, light on seasoning. Lean protien One thing I do not want to deal with on raceday is the trots. No one does.

Post race = celebratory Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe after the 1/2 and a full on ADR at Le Cellier after the Full.

Just a tip. Run the Wine & Dine. That is by far my DW and my favorite Disney run. 13.1 miles then food from around the world until 4am. Yes please.

What kind of food is offered on the marathon route? I thought I read where they passed out bananas, but didn't know if that was true. If so, about what mile marker do they hand them out?

My memory isn't the greatest, but the two times I have run the marathon there have been either 2 or 3 gel stations, either one or two banana stations, and a final sweets station.

The gel stops are pretty evenly spaced, there is definitely a banana station in the ESPN Complex (between miles 17-20) and I believe there may be one earlier in the race as well, and just as you enter Hollywood Studios (mile 23) they have handed out chocolates and fruit snacks. Food isn't abundant on course, but I think they do a pretty good job.

Don't forget mile 15 McDonald's for a McFlurry. Just a short down the ramp, across the road, into McD's, back across the road and up the ramp. Only 5 to 10 minutes extra and sooooo goooood! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

May have to add McDonalds to my training route!

There are often people in the Boardwalk area handing out beer too. :)

Welcome!! I also decided to do the marathon after running princess this year (but only goofy was open so I decided go big or go home)!

Good luck in Philly, I have heard that is a great race!!

If I had the extra $200 for Goofy, I would have been going big or going home as well, lol, but unforuntately not this year! maybe go Dopey in 2016. :goodvibes

Thanks! I've run the Philly half before, and will attest to at least the first 13 miles being great! The half and full are together for the first half, and then split where the half goes in to finish and the full goes to the other side of the river and back out. I think it's the last half where things start to get difficult though so we'll see if I still say it's great at the end of November, LOL.

When I registered for Goofy (Marathon was full,) I did not book anything else, I wanted to make sure I was going to follow through on the training.

Well Sunday, I got my butt out in the rain and ran 13 miles. Let the planning begin.

My DH and DS age 4, will be joining me. Is the Pasta in the Park worth doing once? We have never seen Illuminations?

I think DS would have a blast in the kid races, if we fly in Friday morning at 10:15 is that too late to make the 1 mile race at 12:30 - I figure I would have to take a cab to the hotel to have any chance but it seems like I would be cutting it too close.

Any thoughts on the value of Chear Squad? I don't plan on doing race retreat.

Any other tips for a first timer? This is only our second trip to Disney, and we only spent 3 nights last time.

Thanks!

Congrats on starting your training! In the rain no less! :thumbsup2

The pasta in the park party may be worth it if you don't already have a park ticket for that day. If you do, I would skip it. They will let you into Epcot a couple of hours before the start of the party (I don't know the exact time, I got there a little over an hour early) and you can do whatever you want during that time. The party itself is "meh". It's just basic pasta, salad, breadsticks, bananas, and ice cream. The good news is, you can eat as fast as you want, and then go back out into the park and ride more rides until illuminations starts :) The VIP viewing spot was actually pretty good.

However, if you arriving on Friday and doing the half the next day, you may not want to stay out late enough to really enjoy the party.

I got the race retreat for GSC this year, and my mom, aunt, and cousin all got the platinum chear squad so that they could eat breakfast with me after the races. They really enjoyed it, as well as the MK viewing area and the blanket they received. I'm not sure how much it would be worth it if you aren't doing the race retreat/platinum chear squad combo though. It seems that the other stuff is just as easy to access without spending the money.

My best tip for first times is READ! Read as much as you run, LOL. This thread, and message board in general, is a great wealth of knowledge, for both the races and Disney. Aside from the normal pre-race jitters, my anxiety was surprisingly low going into GSC weekend because I felt that I had a great idea of what to expect thanks to the Princess thread on here.

This week last year, the race medals were released. What are the chances they stick to that schedule and release the 2015 medals in the next few days? I know Goofy is already out, but I'm anxious to see the rest.

I've seen two different ribbons on the Goofy one so I'm still not sure which is correct.

This is the goofy medal:

Right. That's the correct one. I see his point now. The medal is still the same though.

Submitted a 1/2 for Proof of time from Sunday, 2:02, for the Full! My brother submitted a 1:37. Based on last years corrals I'm hoping maybe H for me and C for him, does that seem about right to anyone from last year!
