Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

My main concern is an emergency like a fire alarm, or worse yet a real fire or something of the sort. My DD11 is super mature and responsible, but I'm just. It sure I could be comfortable with it.

This! He is very mature so I'm not worried about him doing anything...but he can be oblivious to what is going on around him! As another poster said, he would probably just watch tv or play minecraft.

s your son signed up for anything? Last year DS and I did the 5K, and he did a Mickey Mile. I messed up and didn't get him or DH (who is going with me this year) into the 5K (which is OK with them because it means I will bust my rear to get him signed up for either Avengers next year!), but he'll be doing the Mile again. The Mickey Mile is open to all 13 and younger (or all below 13? either way, your son and mine still qualify).

I haven't signed him up for anything yet. I should ask him if that's something he'd be interested in

I haven't used childcare at a value resort, so I'm not sure what you meant by "through Disney." However, I believe that there are third-party (non-Disney) child care services that will come to your room.

Kid's Nite Out is listed on Disney's site as a preferred child care vendor.

The way it is worded on disney's site, it says available at select resort hotels...I guess I assumed value wouldn't be a "select" resort hotel :confused3

Can I book Goofy and only run the marathon part?

I have been training for a half marathon in October, I am half way through my training plan and would like to add an additional goal to do a marathon. Disney seems the perfect choice but it is full.

I don't know if anyone has provided any updates earlier in the thread on availability, but you might check the runDisney page for information about what charities there are and whether or not they have any spots left for you to do the marathon that way. Depending on the costs and fundraising requirements, it could be cheaper -- if there are still any spots available.

Otherwise, yes you can register for the Goofy and only run the marathon. You pick up a bib to allow you to run both races (maybe you get super motivated to do them both!), but you would only pick up the Mickey Marathon medal at the finish line since you would be missing the bracelet handed out at the half marathon finish to claim the Goofy medal.

I am with you. I myself need to find the motivation to get going. I have almost identical race records as you except I did 2 sprint tris last summer. Maybe it's just the word. Marathon. Definition: a difficult undertaking: a lengthy and difficult task, event, or activity.

Are you following anyone's program or just making up your own?

Hopefully, once I get more training under my belt, I think I will feel better. Life gets in the way and there are so many excuses to not get out there, but I need to make running a priority again.

I am using the Galloway method for people who have been running 6 months or longer. I am so pumped now reading all the great motivational posts. GO ME!!! Thanks everyone!

I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling better about the marathon!:cheer2: You have plenty of time to get ready and from my personal experience, it's never to early to start training. You're that much more prepared. Two 5 mile runs in this week and hoping to add a 6 miler tomorrow.

Thought for the day:

I am signed up for the marathon, it will be my first even though I have been a runner for many years. I was never really motivated to run races until now, something to do with turning 40 soon? Anyway, my mom is the most excited because it gets her an extra trip to Disney World. Looking forward to the experience.

Hi! I'm running the 10k (my first one! ) And I was wondering. .. do I need to submit a proof of time for the 10k? Or is it just for the half and the full? Thanks! :)

Hey everyone! Names Jason and I will be taking part in my 2nd marathon weekend and I am getting pretty excited as the countdown gets smaller and smaller :) I ran Everest in May and was a blast and I am getting more excited as the days tick down

Trying to plan pre-race meals for the half. We are thinking of possibly eating dinner at Raglan Road on Thursday evening. We have never eaten there.
Friday, we are going to spend the day at Animal Kingdom. Our thought is that since they close at 5 it will sort of force us to go back to the room early to unwind and get to bed. However, I am worried about what to eat! If we want to do a late lunch as our big meal of the day then we are eating in Animal Kingdom. I would think Tusker house would be too big of a meal for pre-race? We want to obviously avoid greasy and fatty anything. Any suggestions from those more familiar with Animal Kingdom than we are?

:) Thankful that my worries in life are what to eat at Disney World.

Plenty to eat at Tusker that isn't greasy or fatty, IMO. Couscous and pearl couscous, salads, I think there's quinoa salads... And you can look at the meat to see if it's fine for your stomach.

I think that going to an early-closing park is smart, and that Tusker for an early dinner is a terrific idea, and I think I'll make that arrangement right now. (curses! foiled! nothing available for dinner!)

At Raglan, I've had the veggie burger (don't remember what it was like) and their simple mashed potatoes and salad. I liked those things. I think they have a pretty big menu!

The rundisney page only discusses the Half and the Full. Probably isn't necessary.

Hi All! I am running the 10K on Friday and this will be my first time at Marathon Weekend. The posted race time is 5:30am. Do you think we have enough time to run the 10K and get over to breakfast at Crystal Palace for an 8:45am reservation? My husband says no, but I think yes. Opinions? This is my first time going down on Marathon Weekend so when it says 5:30am does the race actually start at that time?

I made reservations for Crystal Palace on Saturday too in case we couldn't make it on Friday.

Thanks! :mickeyjum

The races do start on time. However when you start depends on your corral, which affects your finish time.

Whether or not you can make it to MK on time depends on how fast you think you will finish and where you are staying. If you were someone who can finish a 10k in an hour then you would probably be good.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear the races start on time. If the race starts at 5:30am, normally how early should we get there? I am estimating an hour for the 10k (hopefully a little bit faster as my training progresses) so that is positive news. Right now we are staying at Coronado Springs, but I hope to move closer to MK, possibly the Poly or Fort Wilderness once room only discounts are released for January.

They for sure start on time and you will be assigned to a coral by the organizers of the race. I think I was in B for the 10k so I had an earlier start.

(I was assigned K for the half and full)

I was thinking this....if you don't finish with enough time to get back to your hotel room , change and go to the MK THEN I would just take a bus (from the race finish line)to one of the MK resorts (Poly/Contemp or G.F.) instead of your own hotel and then make your way to the MK from there....if you were running late.

Perhaps you can plan it out in advance for the 'what if I am late' scenario...because you never know do you? You can have someone carry a bag of change clothes for you and hold them in a locker there. When you arrive you have something to change into.

So you can do it if you plan it out.

This is a very smelly plan.
