OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Good point. I will be starting in the back of my corral. I guess I just go spoiled at the ToT with no one around me for the majority of the race.

So, you will have 2,000 in front of you, instead of 3,000 last year. I probably ran with you for a while last year at the back of A. I always try to get a pic at the start before crossing the line and like starting at the back so I am not getting trampled.

I come up "Not Found" either but I found my sister. I just sent an email to runDisney about it and hope this is just a system glitch.

I got mine straightened out. I called active to verify my name spelling and bday. My bday was off by 1 digit. Hopefully yours will be that easy to resolve.

Luckily, my birthdate was incorrect in the system as well and it got resolved right away too!

I have a training question for Coach or anyone with experience. I ran my first 20 mile workout last Wednesday. I was a little slower than I had planned for but well under Disney requirements. I finished with no pain and now agree that I don't have to run 23 to know I can finish. My question is about recovery. I'm running Hal Higdon's program. I'm supposed to run 20 again in 2 weeks then taper. After my morning run today I'm wondering if I should cut back to 18 to allow more recovery time for the full. I'm a 58 year old (only running for 1 year). Your thoughts?

It appears that you might still be able to register for the full marathon, in case you know anyone that is superhuman enough to do a last minute marathon.

Go to the marathon website as if you are registering for a kids' race. Click through the link and you'll notice that the Marathon option is available and it lets you sign up. This is the same trick that allowed me to register in October, long after it was officially sold out. Now if only they would do this for Princess weekend!

I wouldn't run another 20 miler, because I prefer a longer taper. I go four weeks out for my last long run. So I'll being doing 21-22 miles today and then nothing longer than 12 before race day. Being in my 50's, I've found that the recovery between is as important as the long runs themselves, but I do all my long races at race pace. Good luck with whatever you decide.

So I am in N. I ran a 2:40 half, but didnt submit an official time, because I am running with a friend who didnt have a time to submit. I did the math. If I can be at the start of N, I will have about 8,000 people behind me.

I am thinking I will be about 18 minutes ahead of the sweepers. This sound right?

Just curious what anyone thinks

I had to put this on my calendar cause my 55 yo brain can't seem to wrap itself around a calendar...

If anything, I would run the 18 on the weekend of the 21 at the latest. If you feel the need for another +15, shoot for a 16-18 that weekend then taper from there. I think you should be OK running the 16-18 range on the 21st if you are not injured or feeling like you need a break.

Note that if you do not run that long on that weekend, don't panic, just smile on know you are going to have a great marathon.

Just curious what anyone thinks

I am thinking the last two corrals will take 14 minutes unless the program gives a shorter period between wave starts i.e. wave O starts 7 minutes before wave P and wave P being the catch all wave taking another 7 minutes. Add to that what ever buffer you can gain in your corral. I am thinking your wave is on the line between a 4 minute and a 7 minute interval.

Make sense

You will have the perfect 21 and Runner's World folks to deal with, but their numbers should not make it difficult except for a zig and maybe a zag

Is there food at WWoS/the expo? My group plans to go there early to do bib pickup for the races & kids races, then stay for the kids races at noon. Wondering if there will be anything to eat so the kids don't get cranky.

Yes there are food options there. We had a Wetzel Pretzel for Wine and Dine packet pickup. Also there is a QS type place inside the one where you get your shirts.
Bottom Line: Yes there are several options for food (and beer!--they were selling some deal where you paid for a "souvenir cup" and then got cheap refills all day.)

Thanks. I'm going to follow the excellent advice here and start tapering back the longer miles and remember I had plenty in the tank to have gone further in training so Disney will be great!!

So I'm not sure what to make of this. A few days ago I decided to use the elliptical and bikes at the gym instead of running. The next day my Achilles' tendon was sore and it hasn't gotten better yet. I skipped my other run this week to rest it. Today I jogged a little during a 5k walk and it didn't feel right. It's not painful but I'm afraid it will turn into something worse. I'm supposed to do 10 miles tomorrow and 20 next weekend before my taper.

How should I handle this? Is there anything I can put on my ankle to prevent more injury? Should I skip this run all together?

Disney just got more money from me for a Kid's race. I guess the 2 YO cannot feel left out since I am doing Dopey and the wife and two older sons are doing the 5k. There is another $30 Disney You're welcome.

I will leave it to Coach to give you the real answer but I've been fighting an IT Band injury and decided to forgo my last run based on his advice last week. I've continued to train focusing on pool running and strength training these past two weeks. Got back on the track yesterday for 45 min walk/run and felt strong with no pain. Decided from here on out it is a mental game, running partner and I set time goals today while doing 1.5 hrs in pool. Yes, we needed something to do :)

All you knee pain people out there I have a question for you.

My right knee is killing me lately, mostly on the outside. Typically, it's runs over 5 miles and anything that has even the vaguest hint of a downhill to it the knee will hurt. I did 19 last weekend walking the downhills and it was uncomfortable but manageable, no pain afterwards.

Today I (stupidly) went downhill and afterward I could barely walk. Even just touching the area hurt. Now, a couple hours later, I'm golden and the knee feels fine. It's been coming and going, but I'm at a loss now.

Likely IT Band. Very common. Google it for details. Things like rolling and Pigeon Pose stretch could help as well as some Advil and rest.

It sounds like IT band pain. I would suggest rolling from your hip down to that knee and look into KT Tape.
