Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I figure out what I want to do then theme it out w/ running clothes. I'd check out pinterest if you're looking for ideas and etsy and Michael's for supplies. For the 10k in Sept, I'm doing LSU b/c college football starts that day. I have a yellow tech shirt and found a girl on etsy to design a football mickey iron on to go w/ purple & yellow shorts.

I'll be at the TCU vs. LSU game! I'll cheer for you in the 10k. But, gotta cheer for my Frogs at the game! :figment:

It just doesn't make any sense. You guys have been running forever, you would think somehow through one registration or another your email would get snagged up somehow. Just keep thinking happy thoughts, and if you're running in Sept, we have only 10 more weeks left. :hyper:

OOOOOOH KIM.....
Looks like our team got into NIKE!!!! No emails yet but several team members have had their cards charged already!:love::cool1::thumbsup2

Nice!! I'll be watching from my hotel room. I'm actually going to my 1st LSU game this Sept, I'm super stoked. Good luck in the game... but Geaux Tigers!! :goodvibes

I knew it! Runner's murphy's law ~ if I wasn't doing NY 2 weeks later, I know I wouldn't have gotten in! :rotfl2: That's okay, I'll just go nice and easy, not push it. Besides what better way to start you taper with a nice Tiffany's necklace. You were right ~ your team does have good luck.

We got charged and the emails came in a couple minutes ago!

Congrats on getting in!

My team did not get in :sad2: we got our emails today.

Not entirely sure how I feel about it as I am in my first 1/2 ever 2 weeks before. I think it was one of those meant to be things.

Hoping for next year :thumbsup2 I should have all of this new race stuff down by then.

My friends and I didn't get in, either. I do think sometimes that happens when it's meant to be. There's always next year!

Money-wise, it's kind of a relief. Now I can register for Tink next week without having to stretch my budget so thin this month. :P

If you guys or people in your team are still interested in running the race, keep an eye out on their fb page in Sept. Not sure about this year, but the past couple of years they've opened up spaces and there isn't a lottery- it's 1st come 1st serve after they announce it. That's how I got in the past 2 years. It may not be the best option training wise b/c of short notice, but just throwing it out there for you. Sorry about not getting in!

I see that you are in Northern California so are you doing Urban Cow or San Jose Rock N Roll for your first half? Both of those courses a very flat so recovery would not be too bad. One tip I give people is to make you sure you walk the afternoon or evening of the race. It will be the last thing you want to do, but it will help greatly for your recovery and will reduce the soreness in the days following the race.

Also, make sure you do a short (4-6 miles) and slow recovery run the following weekend. Skipping that workout would be worse than doing the workout even if it's not very comfortable.

Thanks for the tip! I'll already be mid-training for Dopey, so it wouldn't really mess up my schedule to sign up last minute. We'll have to wait and see.

I am doing the Rock N Roll in SJ. When I was trying to figure out what would be a good half for a brand new "runner" it seemed like the course from the description was flat and the race seemed to be new runner friendly.

I certainly won't be able to run the entire way, I will be doing a run/walk, but as long as I finish and enjoy myself I am good. Oh - and I would really rather not be last :goodvibes

Any and all hints, tips or tricks, advice, etc is greatly appreciated. I am brand new to this, so any and all help I appreciate.

BTW, I am working on ChiRunning & ChiWalking. It seems to be what works out best for me :thumbsup2

Wow! Just caught up on all that I missed this week! I'm pretty excited about the 10K, and think I will probably do both, even without the challenge - I can't pass up Disney bling!!! ;)

The Nike Women's Marathon sounds awesome! I didn't even know it existed! Tiffany necklaces?! I'm sold! Congrats to all you lucky ladies that got in!

Sorry I've been so slow reporting back about the Rock n Roll Seattle! I can't believe it's been a whole week already! The race was awesome! The weather was gorgeous, the course was nice and scenic and I got a PR!!! My goal was to break 2:30, but I did it in 2:21! I was ecstatic!!!

The race was very well organized, with 47 corrals! It was huge! The expo was great, packet pick-up went smoothly, bag check was easy-peasy. Again, fantastic course, bands and other entertainment every mile, water stations were plentiful, lots of good food at the end, really nice Brooks race shirts (men's and women's cuts), and awesome BLING! Really, no complaints at all! So yeah, I'd definitely recommend a Rock n Roll event to anyone! :) I'll be doing it again next year!

I attended a quick ChiRunning class at the San Francisci Marathon expo and it seems like I am already doing a loy of what she was teaching, but I did learn a few things.

Rock n' Roll is a great first race and you won't be last. There are about 23 corrals so if you really think you need the extra time you can change corrals at the expo and they normally don't question the change.

The main issue I had with the SJ Rock n Roll is that I could not hear my Garmin alerts for the intervals since the race course is so loud.

Be mindful of the race hype since it is easy to start too fast in these types of races. Keep an I on your pace and start the race at your normal long workout pace before you start increasing your speed.

Congrats on the PR, sumlee! That is awesome! I agree, the Seattle RnR half course is beautiful.

I still maintain that the full course, which I "ran" last weekend, is like the road to hell -- gorgeous views while you burn and die. ;) You can probably guess how my own race went. LOL.

I agree with you about how well organized Rock and Roll races are. They are my second favorite series (after Disney, of course), and I've now run 8 races with them, including my half marathon PR in Portland this year.

But you still finished a MARATHON! :goodvibes Congrats on finishing!

Thank you! I am absolutely sure the race day adrenalin will kick in at the beginning, but I wlll really try to remember to pace myself! Question: how easy is it to avoid from getting swept? I can't imagine it would be a problem, as I can walk faster than the 16/min per mile pace if necessary, but just wondering. :confused3

I really like ChiRunning/ChiWalking, even though I am a beginner. I attended a half day workshop in SJ so that really helped. I like having different things that I get to work on improving, technique wise, and it prevents me from dealing with pain from an old neck injury. I was in severe pain every time I would try to run, or even long walks, and since I started the ChiRunning, I have been completely pain free :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! And congrats to YOU, rach, for finishing the full! Holy Cow! Sounds like it was rough! Way to stick to it! I hope to someday be as cool as you and do a full! ;)

Do you mean getting swept at Disney? There are sweepers (cyclists) that will let you know how far ahead of the cutoff you are and usually they will ride up to a mile marker to let people know as they pass. I have heard there are two mile markers that you need to pass by a certain time to not be swept and once you are passed the second one you will be fine.

I would recommend starting at the very front of your corral to get a small buffer since the 3:30 cutoff starts with the last person crossing the start line which is normally Jeff Galloway and he takes his time crossing.

Be sure to submit a proof of time if it is faster than a 14:52 mile (3:15 finish). If you start in any of the corrals besides the last one you can figure a 5-10 minute buffer for each corral.

This is the only race I recommend starting out fast. You will be running outside of the park for almost two miles at the beginning of the race so make those count before you get into the park. This is based on the 2013 course which had you go through DL, DCA and Downtown Disney in the first 6 miles. The 2012 course had you entering the park right away, but you didn't go into DCA until about mile 11. The impact of the 2012 course was they did not open DCA until 11:00 that day. That was not an issue then since that was before they had completed Carsland and Buena Vista Street. Once you are in the park keep an eye on your pace if you stop to take pictures at characters. You will not be swept in the park, but if you get behind the sweepers you need to try to pass them before you leave Downtown Disney.

Who was it here that said (I think last week?) that they got an email from runDisney saying they checked that they intended to register for Tink wile registering for PHM, but it didn't complete and to just reply to the email to give them the OK to push your charges through...did you do that? I got the email as well and went ahead and let them push it through. Wondering if you did as well, did you get any sort of confirmation? When I gave them the OK, I also asked about a confirmation, but haven't heard anything back from them.

That was me! I gave them the OK on Friday and got an email confirming this morning.
