Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I keep going back and forth! From the first rumor, I was all-in but assumed there would be a challenge, I mean, why wouldn't there be? It's not like it entails another race to plan, etc...just an extra medal to hand out and a higher fee to charge the runners! :lmao: but now that I'm hearing the possibility of the 10k with no challenge, I'm thinking about skipping it to. And just when I get comfortable with THAT decision, the devil on my shoulder says "you're going to be there anyway, do you really want to miss out the 10k inagural medal?" :rolleyes2

This is me too. I planned on skipping both Tink and PHM this year, but when they announced the new C2C and GSC I knew I'd have to do them both. I really hope there is a Tink challenge so I can get it out of the way. If there is a 10K this year but no challenge, I'll still prob do it since I'll already be out there. But I'll be irritated if they make it a challenge next year:/

I can't imagine Disney throwing away the extra revenue adding a challenge would bring if they are truly doing a 10k. They never miss a chance to make a penny. And I feel like I never miss a chance to give them every penny I can;) This one though I'll have to skip can't make it to the West Coast in January:(

That's exactly what I've been thinking. I can't think of any good reason why they would have a 10k but not the challenge. It just doesn't make sense. And if that Active page keeps getting updated with a 10k listed, I can't imagine there's NOT going to be a 10k...so why not just announce it already!??! Unless there's some Active employee that is sitting at a desk, really enjoying messing with all of us! :scratchin

I am in the same boat. If there is a challenge, I want to do the 10k. No challenge, and I might not do it. But, it is the inaugural event... sigh...

Come on runDisney! Do the 10k with the challenge!!! :mic:

I know......what is a girl to do ???? Then there is ALL the shopping that "must" be done too for the races.

My exact thoughts!

My exact thoughts!

Add me in too!

So here's my theory...
Run disney actually reads the WISH thread and read how we know their plans. They're mad that they haven't been as secretive as they thought and we know what's really going on courtesy of our little detectives. They know we know, and they are just tormenting us now as punishment. :stir:

It came to me as I opened my email this afternoon to see an email from rundisney about the Tink 1/2. I got all excited that they finally made the announcement, but it was just about the magazine subscription!! See... they know and they're just playing with us now. :rotfl2:

I agree with your theory.

I got the same email today about the magazine offer. I could not believe that I was ACTUALLY, finally getting a email from RD. :rotfl:

Seriously...why is it they can get that one to me but none of the race update emails that I'm registered for?

The funny thing is I don't seem to get race update emails or announcements but I got this one!

What's the deal with a team? I don't get it :confused3

Would they announce a challenge before July9? I'm guessing they would have to, but I'm learning that nothing DR does really makes sense... :rotfl:

But did you see on the Active page the cutoff for proof of time is DECEMBER 1st?:cool1: for those who were worried about getting a race in before the cutoff.

I on the other hand will be passing on Tink for 2014 as I plan on running Nike Womens half in DC in the spring and SF in the fall. Got to get those hils in sooner or later.

Here's my theory- they make MORE money by NOT doing a challenge.

If you do a challenge, it's 1 runner for 2 races. Charge just enough to cover extra medal and shirt.

If you do it as 2 separate races--- many of us WONT sign up for the 10K. But that 10K is going to fill up based on previous races- rather quickly. with NEW runners. People who were not planning on coming to the parks, staying at a hotel, and spending money that day.

Now they have 2 runners for the 2 slots in the races, right? 2 people that will both spend $$$ on rooms, park tickets, and food. Double the revenue by adding people.

I heard today that there is a 10K coming, but not a challenge. Active seems to support this.

They want to allow new people to drink the rD koolaid. ;) From a new runner perspective- someone who wants to do more than a 5K but isnt ready for a half, then this is the right race for them. new people into the rD fold! YAY! But there's going to be disappointment to those that wanted the challenge option.

I definitely agree with your theory! More people = more $.

If it was a challenge, I was all for it, but now I'm on the fence... I'm debating between the 5k with a friend or the inaugural 10k. *sigh*

I'm one of the new 5k gals that can't do a 1/2....so a 10k would be great. This is my first rD event and I'm not enjoying the lack of info 2 weeks before registration opens (&closes)!
What day is the 5k on? 10k?
I can get lots of info from you great ladies :) but I want it printed on the rD site!!

Sounds like there is a 10K, but no challenge? I don't know if I am bummed or not. I really don't think I need to do a 10K/Half challenge the weekend after Dopey, but I was totally game.

Haha, same here! I know I'm absolutely crazy, but I was already going to do Tinker Bell after the Dopey, and since I'll be at DL already anyways, I kinda feel like I might as well do the 10k (and 5k), too. I'll be bummed if there is no challenge, because i want all the medals i can get, but I'll still do them. :P

If there is no challenge, i probably wouldn't do the 10K, unless the medal was way cool. But then again, if it's a 10K with no challenge, maybe i'd sign me and my 10 yr old up to do it. she is a runner and would be up to the challenge of a 10K by then.
