Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Did anyone see how crazy the lines were for the New Balance Shoes at the Marathon Expo on Facebook? I had planned for them selling them at the Tink but that looks nutz. I will be at the tink expo day 1 so maybe. Also hoping they have Tink Dooney and Burkes!

Hi. I am here in WDW and can report that there will be plenty of new balance shoes at Tink. New balance has initially ordered 500,000 pairs Also the Dooney and Bourke people told me there would be a Tinkerbell purse but they weren't sure of the styles. I think it will be the same pattern as prior years. It is purple.

Thanks for filling us in. I really want to get those shoes!

It's getting so close, I can taste it! Road closure signs for next weekend have already gone up. I did a happy dance on my way in to work and seeing a few of those. It just makes it more real.

Right now I'm only planning on hitting up the Expo on Thursday. Possibly on Saturday after the 10K but we'll see. Wont be able to with my work schedule on Friday right now. Oh well.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the information.

Packing day! I really hope they release the merchandise pics by Thursday so I know what to pack for Sunday! I'd like to wear my race shirt or an I did it shirt around the parks later that day. Just finished getting most of my other stuff out and organized. Good thing too- had a minor (ok major) freak out when I couldn't find the capris I was planning to run in! Found them tho. Mis-filed in with my tops....

Anyone have an opinion regarding whether we will need sunglasses by the end? I figure ill be finishing up around 7:45ish. Are there parts of the course where we would be running directly into the sun?

I would say sunglasses are a person preference. I use them, but my eyes are really sensitive. Sunrise isn't supposed to be until 6:55 and finishing at 7:45 the only time you'd be running into the sun is the short block before mile 10 when we turn on to Ball. You might get a little sun on Broadway, but at your pace the sun would probably be just rising. The long stretch on Harbor and then Anaheim Blvd., the sun will be on your left side, not in your face. Once you turn on Disney Way, it'll be at your back.

Thank you so much! I have to say that you guys on the Tink board have been awesome to train with. I appreciate your help so much.

I just finished a nice slow and easy 4.25 outside (finally- warm enough temps!) and I feel so much better about the race than I did earlier this week. I focused on staying calm and not letting myself try to catch up on pace if I found myself slowing from a hill or to tie my shoe. I finished feeling strong. Hopefully this is the kind of run ill have next weekend.

Good luck to everyone heading into this last week! We are SOOOOOO close!

Ok. If anyone needs a pep talk, here is your kick-in-the-*** you might need. You CAN do this. People get tired of hearing me say this, but Tink will be my 16th half. I only say it again, just to show you I sort of know what I'm talking about (although I learn something new each time I do one). I'm a 13 minute half marathon finisher, 20 pounds overweight, have blown out both ACL's in my knees in the past. So not your typical well oiled running machine. If I'm being honest, I train just enough to squeak by. BUT, I always finish a race.

Please trust me, yeah I know, you don't even know me, but this is mental game. Yes partly mental as in crazy, but mostly mental as in your brain is the biggest thing you will need to overcome. I have seen amputees, 80 year olds, incredibly overweight people, 8 year olds, a barefoot dwarf/midget/short person (not kidding), and people pushing their adult disabled kids in wheelchairs UPHILL.....you CAN do this.

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

If you have gotten to mile 11, guys, you are basically at the finish line!

Its's time to DIG DEEP. You got this. Michele

OMG best pep talk EVAH!!

Seriously you guys here and on the FB group (Im a member there) have been so supportive. Its the best. Its why I love running, for the most part everyone is so supportive of each other.

we havent trained like we should for this, so Ill be run/walking but I know we can do a good time and finish. Im not trying to set a PR. Im doing for this the experience and the fun of it.

Id love to see pics of anyone's costumes. Ill be Terence and hope I can get my pic taken with Tink.

I decided to skip getting the NB shoes. I remembered that I had two pairs of NB shoes and they were the most uncomfortable shoes Ive ever worn, even for just walking. Plus I dont want to wait that long in a line.

I am hoping to get a cool shirt or hoodie with the Tink Half logo on it.

We are in the last corral because we havent done a race in two years, and have no qualifying time to submit. If you are in the last corral, look for Terence and come say Hi

I was definitely glad to have sunglasses last year, but then again I definitely have sensitive eyes and am accustomed to running with them. I will have them in my run belt for sure!

Thanks for the thoughts on the compression sleeves and tape :)

For the Disneyland Half I would say definitely yes, but you could get away without for Tinker Bell. But it's also a preference thing. I can't see in sunglasses (I'm not spending the $ on prescription since I know I'll break them) and I'm not used to running in them so I don't regardless of how sunny it is. I've gotten by just fine in previous events.

Anyone else spending Saturday night TRYING to pack ??? I've got a ton of clothes out and having a hard time trying to figure out what to wear and bring. :confused3

Packing is so difficult when you're a over packer. :scared1:

Yes, that is exactly what I am doing tonight!

I remember those days! I started packing far in advance, took forever, and still over packed no matter how many times I said I wouldn't.

Now being a local, I still take too much with me. I just have the luxury of deciding to leave it in the car last minute.

Glad I'm not the only one.
Since we hop on the 5 and drive down...it's SO easy to just bring everything and fill up the SUV.
It also doesn't help that I'm on the boards instead of packing.:lmao::lmao:

I got my DL coffee mug out this morning...seemed appropriate. :surfweb:

I think I'll start packing today. My oldest is going to help me put the ribbon on my Wendy t-shirt (that was SO hard to find!!!!), and then my costume is ready! I need to figure out what to wear for the 10K.

I'm so excited to get to the warmer weather! These 30s and 40s are getting old knowing I'm heading out in only five days!

I was doing that yesterday too! I found Cinderella on a channel while I was packing so it made it more fun. But then as I was watching, I realized that w/ my brown Vanellope skirt for the 10k, if I found blue arm sleeves and a brown tank, I could go as before Cinderella for the GSC next month. Then I got distracted looking on the internet. :rotfl2:

Miss Vicki ~ when are you guys heading down?

Did my last long run today in the pouring rain! Looking forward to the warmer runs next weekend! Yay!

Are there any other Tink runners that just ran Dopey (or the wdw marathon/half/10k/5k) this weekend? With how much my feet hurt right now, I'm dreading next weekend a little bit, but I want to keep up my Tink half legacy status, so I couldn't skip it!
