Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

What is everyone eating after Dopey? I'm heading to beaches n cream for onion rings, french fries, ice cream... Probably not Sunday since I might want just want to hurl, but definitely by Monday.

I probably won't eat much until dinner, and then am headed to Yachtsman.

I usually have two slices of pepperoni pizza as a post-race/post shower meal but from there, usually not much until dinner as well. By then, everything is settled and I am famished

I'll probably scarf down the box of random stuff they give you at the finish line, and then get something back at the hotel. I won't be really hungry until Sun evening. We are planning on Raglan Road, and I'll probably have the same thing I had after the Goofy this year - mixed grill and a pint. I'll see if I can have an extra slice of black pudding though.

The last 2 years after Goofy we have gone to ESPN Zone Sunday night to watch some football, drink some beers, and eat nachos! Planning for the same after Dopey.

I agree with Betsy on all the above. I would not stress out the foot on any additional long runs until possibly Christmas. And then, only a slow 6-8 miler or two to shake the legs out. I would also try to protect the foot from misguided steps.

I would add cycling and rowing to the list of workouts but more than likely try to avoid the elliptical. Note that water running with a foot injury is best done in deep water, not a swimming lane. The contact with the pool bottom can still be stressful.

thanks all. looks like i need to look into a month-long gym membership for access to a bike. was really hoping to at least get one good solid back-to-back long runs but thinking it may not be worth risking further injury. save that for the dopey ;)

i always make these grand eating and drinking plans in my head that i'm going to do after my races. after the NYC marathon last month i had DH get me a slice of regular AND a slice of sicilian pizza and i told him i was going to demolish them in 5 seconds. i ate most of the regular slice and chucked the sicilian. i never feel very hungry until the next day after really long runs.

we have a reservation for dinner at BOG on monday. we ate there last year with a group of 8 and it was fun. it will be nice to go again. i really like the belgian beer there have there :)

Yoohoo! I do hope we are going to meet up at Epcot for our margarita sometime mid-late Sunday afternoon! We're flying home on Monday.

A few years back my right eye used to go black..meaning no vision...I saw a doc who saw NOTHING wrong with it...but it would do this...then it would go cloudy like yours...I saw another doc who saw NOTHING.
This was a few years ago and it hasn't done that in years. Strange.
Perhaps it was stress? Thinking about the races? I really don't know...but whatever it was with me, it stopped and never came back..knock on wood (my desk)

BTW great job on the 24 mile run! You are there!

Thanks - I did a google search and it seems that this has happened to a lot of runners and bikers. No one reported a doctor's diagnosis - all said that they reported a clean bill of eye health. I have has some stress in my life the last few weeks - maybe that contributed. Did not think of that.

Lmao!

I am going for the sundae on Sunday. Lets see... (like I haven't thought this one out!) ... it will be capacino flavoured with hot fudge and marshallow topping and whip cream and sprinkles and walnuts and a cherry...cannot wait...but I get it after I do the 48. something miles.

Not sure what I'll eat right after the race, but I have a dinner reservation at Ohana. Thats been our go to spot after the past 2 marathons. I'm usually famished in the evening after a long run and nothing helps deal with that better than a mountain of shrimp.

24 miler today - felt AWESOME! I still have some nagging injuries, but nothing that is limiting me while actually running.

A weird thing happened to me today while running. It was 25 degrees outside, with a light wind. By the end of my run my vision in my right eye had become very cloudy. It stayed that way through the rest of the run and for a few hours afterward, then started to clear up. Very strange, and concerning. A google search tells me that it is probably nothing to be worried about, but still...

About once a year or so, I will get a 'halo' in one of my eyes (blurriness usually starting at the top of the eye and then spreading to the rest). It is usually a symptom of a painless migraine (at least for me and my mom). Sometimes a headache will start coming on. My only sure-fire way of getting rid of them? Take out my contacts and take a nap. My eyes are always back to normal when I wake up and no headache.

We're going to Wolfgang Puck for the post-marathon dinner.

Not sure what I'll do for lunch. Something in the MK though.

We have reservations at Boma on Sunday night. A great post race meal!

We do nachos in Mexico for lunch.

Did a 3-6-10-20 this past weekend. About 10 degrees and four inches of snow on Sunday made for a tough run. This is the year of injuries for me. I think I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot. Keeping my fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

We're going to Crystal Palace for our post-marathon dinner, so we can eat all the things! :D. For lunch, I figured I'd grab something in Epcot while staggering back the the Boardwalk.

BOG for dinner on Sunday. I'll be getting a bottle of wine just for myself! The first thing I want when I get to MK after the race is a Mickey Mouse Ice Cream sandwich. I LOVE those things!!!!

ugh just found out that DH has a meeting in san diego on the 8th. we're supposed to head down there that day and go to the expo. so, i'll have to head down on the 8th with the boys (ages 4 and 2) on my own and take them to the expo. UGH! i definitely will not be perusing the booths while there. bummer.

he may not get back til the 9th (will fly from san diego to orlando) so i just called the kids nite out babysitting to see if they can come at like 4am so i can make the bus for the 5k. 4 hour minimum plus the extra cost because it's early and that's $20.50 an hour. figure i won't be back til 8 maybe 9 and that's one expensive morning.

this dopey challenge, with the entry fee, the t-shirt i know i'll have to buy, the trips to the doctor for the foot injuries, and now the babysitter is like the most expensive race weekend EVER for me.

my foot better be good enough to get me to each finish line!!!

another thought - since we're doing dopey we will receive 4 of those post-race food boxes. and in my opinion they kind of stink. hummus after a race? not for me.

it might be a good idea to plan on bringing some post-race food for you to put in your checked bag. by the end of the half or the full the idea of that box o' yucky food will probably not be appetizing.

i liked when they had those big greasy bad-for-you muffins after the race. i would eat about half of the top of one and be satisfied :)

As a post race food, humus is kind of a good food. Carbs, protein and good fats. Though saying that, I am with you on the box... I would rather be able to drop my post race drink in a checked bag as in the past... no longer an acceptable item in the checked bag.

Wow that is really a tough situation to be in. These races are full of many challenges of so many different kinds, aren't they! I assume there is no stroller division anymore? Was wondering if you could bring the kids to the 5k with you. But since you didn't mention it, maybe it is not an option.

nope, no stroller division. we wanted to do that b/c we had so much fun at the family 5k during princess weekend. but because some you-know-whats couldn't follow directions (don't run with the strollers, just walk) they did away with the stroller division now. grr.
