Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

I think I majorly messed up. Before, trackshack said my projected finish was 3:15 (based on only turning in my Tink time that was just over 3:30) but I ran a chipped 10k race today to see if I could get an earlier corral. I ended up running at a much faster pace than the only race I've ever done (Tink) but they use the McMillan formula and assume you'll run a slower overall pace the longer the distance you run. :( so now it shows my at a 3:30 time which would be a further back corral. I remembered someone saying they might take into account that you're training and running local races and bump you up so I figured submitting wouldn't hurt.

Does anyone know a number I could call and ask to revert back to the 3:15 estimate?

I hope you're right, but they do have a 12:30 pm game that day. People were saying in the past, that meant they ran around the stadium.

I just know we had a home game on race day in 2011 and we ran through the stadium. Don't know what time the game was but I don't think it was too much later then that. Anyone else on here run the 2011 race remember when the 2011 game started?

You can call the RunDisney number on the webpage. But the problem is TrackShack isn't open on the weekend (only Monday-Friday 9-5 EST I heard that message apparently enough that I can repeat it). So that falls after the submission date. Still maybe try talking to someone?

Just did a Google search and the game time on September 4, 2011 was at 12:35 - so if Angels Stadium was indeed part of the course that year, we should be fine once again.

Okay so yeah that was the date of the race on that year. And since there was a game at that time in 2011 I think were in the clear. And to provide some visual proof that there were runners in Angels here's me going through Angels:

I did the same thing! I went from a 3:15 (guessing because I did Tink with a SUPER FAST 3:36…don't be jealous ladies) and put in my 10K time and got 3:19. Im SO smart!

That's great!! Those pics are awesome!

Hooray! So glad to hear we'll be running through the stadium. Those pics are awesome! love the wand. :)

I called the number but as StarGirl11 said they were closed :( I left a message as I didn't see why they wouldn't move my time back to 3:15 as runners can pick and choose any runs they've done for the last two years to be their best chance at a better proof of time. (Edited post to add) Trackshack called me back this morning! :dogdance: and said they will honor the earlier 3:15 time (even though it's now after the June 1st deadline)! Yay!! I still think it's pretty ridiculous that the computer would even let the time go to a "worse" time, why would anyone want that :/ at least your times aren't that much off, but you should call if you wanted too the woman I spoke with was very sweet!

I felt pretty disheartened after my race since I improved my pace by two minutes (!!) per mile but the silly algorithm showed me at a worse time. I'll definitely remember not to do this in the future. I'm so super glad that the lovely Kristen at trackshack was so nice and changed my time back (even though it's not showing up on the website yet). She said she just overwrote my 10k and put estimated finish of 3:15 with race of N/A.

I'm super excited for our race in August! :) Finally booked our hotel on Katella the same as we got for Tink and was the perfect across the street distance from the start line. :D Now the next hurdle will be driving the 5.5 hours from the Bay Area! :drive:

Does anyone know for sure what course the Disneyland 10k will take? A Google search for maps turns up two different routes. Both start on Disneyland Dr. but one goes south round the convention center, through California Adventure and then into Disneyland. The second one goes north on Disneyland Dr, into Disneyland, into California Adventure and then around the pumba lot.

Course-1

Course-2

My best guess is the course will be similar to the 10K route from the Disneyland 10K last year (so the route that went south round the convention center). But so far, there's nothing official out on the course.

I hope your are correct, the "south" course saves all the good stuff (ie the parks) for the end and appears to go through rather than around Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Fingers crossed.

For those of you that have done both WDW and DL races, how does the pre race stuff compare? Do you have the initial meet up area for bag drop and all that and then the hike to the corrals, or is it all in one area?

It's all mostly in one area. You do have a short walk to get to the corrals but it's nothing like the hike to the corrals for the WDW spring races. The only thing comparable to that hike is if your staying off property of the Disneyland resort and have to take the ART bus in or are walking in. Then you have a half mile+ walk to the corrals from either the bus drop or wherever your staying.

Just make sure to get there plenty early. Because these corrals are a bit of a mess (unless they fix them this year). More so than normal Disney corrals. DLR has yet to figure out it might be a good idea to give a really good way to tell where D and E ends and on that same tangent F and G. I'm hoping it's better this year but last year it seemed like they added the Dumbo runners into the corrals but didn't account for them.

Thanks! I'm off property so I'll be walking over to the start. Glad to not have the extra walk to the corrals. Didn't know that about the WDW races when I did it the first time so I was half awake thinking where are we going!

All this talk of corrals is making me a bit nervous. Being my first 10k (and first race period), I have no time to enter so I assume I'm being dropped into the last corral.

I'm currently running 10k at 14:15/Mile well under the 16:00/Mile race pace.

So can I relax? Sure I'll be one of the last ones on the course, meaning I'll have some extra time to stand around before the race starts but other than that I don't need to worry do I? The 16:00/Mile limit starts after the LAST runner starts right?

Also how early is "early" to the corrals? 1 Hour before posted opening, 2 Hours?

I don't really know about the pace part but I think you would fine unless you got caught up in a photo op with characters.

I always struggle with how early to get to bigger races. Two hours is probably too early unless you just want to take in the atmosphere and hang with friends. Just give yourself enough time that you don't feel rushed. I know for WDW marathon weekend I got there way to early the first day(the were still cleaning the monorail) and sat around for a long time. I'm sure people who have done DL races can you give you a better idea of how it works in Cali.

Good luck on your first 10k. You'll do great.

When DH and I ran the Tinkerbell 10K this past January we'd been at about your pace and were able to finish in about 1:26:00 starting in the last corral so you should be fine. We were there about an hour before the start and they just began letting people into the corrals about 10 minutes after we got there so an hour should be just right for you. Also, if you'd like to get a little bit more of a head start from the "cut off" if you can get to the front of the corral that'll give you a little buffer as they don't start timing for the cut off until the last person's crossed the starting line. Hope that helps

That's a great help! Thanks so much :goodvibes

First, I am sure you will be fine. Assuming you are not in the very last corral you will have a good buffer because the pacing requirement starts AFTER the last person crosses the start. (hate to be that last person)

Second, I have run my 10k's with a pace that is a good 1 to 2 minutes faster than my best half time. (granted those were both halfs in FL). I do believe I could be on the far end of the spectrum as far as how much slower I get as the miles pile on but do know that it is expected that your pace will slow some over what you can do for a 10k.

Third, if a perfect storm of sorts should happen (you are in a corral in the back and the weather and or distance affect you in a negative way) just be mindful that you may have to forgo some character stops.

The OP has already confirmed that they have not submitted a time so they WILL be in the last corral. And they are doing the 10k, not the half.

I'm thinking that we'll be fine in the last corral, but may have to ditch the character stops if the lines are too long. Just because we're in the last corral it doesn't mean we'll get swept. I'm sure there are many people before us who have started in the last corral and manage to finish the run :thumbsup2 But I'm still going to aim to be at the beginning of the last corral, just for a bit of buffer.
