Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Registered for Dumbo Dare, but looking at the corral charts from last year, I am going to be in the last corral. Planning on submitting a 10k time, but not sure I can get my turtle pace up fast enough to predict a half finish time of under 3hrs. Has anyone been successful in completing a RD half if starting in the last corral? Concerned about being swept and it is terrifying. I plan to train hard to get my pace down to 14min mile.

If you can stay within the 16-minute pace requirement there's no need to worry regardless of what corral you are in. If you're really, really worried just try and get yourself to the front of the corral to give yourself a little bit of cushion. The corrals are BIG. It takes a little time for that last person to cross the start line which is when the pace requirement officially starts.

For my very first half I had nothing to put for my qualifying/estimated time and I did start in the last corral. Didn't have a problem finishing and actually did better than I thought I would do. I didn't stop for photos that time, just in case. But it gave me a great starting point for subsequent races and knowing when I could throw in some photo lines.

That part is true. It's usually why I check the clocks when we hit the mile markers just to check and see if I'm roughly on the pace I want since I'm good at math on the run. Go figure don't ask me to memorize a route (I've knownly passed on a race because it would require me remembering the route while running the race). But math on the run I excel at.

And yeah brr describes it. It is now 5 degrees out.

I am SO jealous of you that you can do math while running. I can barely add 2 and 2 once I'm 10 minutes into a run. And I should mention that I walk/run AND I'm slow! So it's not even like I'm sprinting or anything, LOL.

So glad we made it into the 10K before it sold out! I had not run a step since I completed the Dumbo last year... I think my husband realizes now that these races are not optional to keep me going..! :lmao:

i feel the more you run, the more you're able to do "running math" as my friends and i call it. "ok we're at 12 min miles, if we take some photo ops and potty break here and here.. we'll be ok to fall back on the 13 or 14mm" or "omg we're at 14mm, no potty breaks until mile x and no pics unless it's a character we never see EVER!"

I wish I could think like this... once we are off, its all business, the lines are all too long, and do I REALLY need that potty break...? Hoping to speed up this time so I can slow down, if that makes any sense.

I tend to snap photos of the mile markers as we go by. Mainly to let my Mom know where I'm at. And mainly so I know what my pace was at the last mile split . Don't ask me for overall time. That's too much math on the run since the clocks are from gun time. But knowing what my time is from mile to mile is easy. I also have my own phone send me my own runner tracking info so I know exactly what my pace is according to Run Disney. So I use that for overall time.

On a fun note. It's a balmy -5 where I am! Thankfully today is my day off from running. I don't have to run until tomorrow. And its supposed to warm up some by then. I did get my 20 minutes in. But I had to throw on a layer of clothes just to get to the gym first!

After what happened during TINK, (sorry was auto correcting to think) we all need to put safety on the list just a bit. Try more for hotels vs motels. We stayed at the Marriott Convention center, and I even left my GPS watch in the room and walked back for it. The walk didn't feel bad at all. Esp if you cut through the convention center. For a DDD race where it will be more then one day, I think I would stay there again. I felt very safe, it was clean and I believe the only other 4 stay other then the Grand near the resort. Time was slower knowing I did an extra two miles before the race but that is ok LOL

What happened during Tink? I've never felt unsafe around the DLR area, but I've never been walking around at 4am...

I cannot do running math either...and I'm a CPA! Lose most brain cells. Lol. I look at the clock 'ok, if I run x miles per hour, I will be at next mile at x time'. Get to next marker, 'wait, what was the number again?!'

If it helps, we have never felt unsafe walking from our hotels on Harbour Blvd - there has always been a veritable herd of people going that way for the races in the early AM. :goodvibes

Anybody used HsuBu Travel in the past for entry into DDD? 2014 packages aren't posted yet, but I'm hoping someone can tell me what the 2013 packages, hotels and entry fees were. Thanks!

That does help thanks! We're staying on Harbour and I'd always figured there'd be heaps of people around at all sorts of odd hours.

How do the corral's work? Do you exit the same place you enter, or do you enter at one end and exit from the other?

Assuming you are looking to be the first out of the corral, If it's the former, that would argue for a later arrival to the corral while the latter
would argue for an early arrival.

you enter one direction and you exit the opposite direction. you need to enter the corrals as early as possible, DO NOT DELAY if you are concerned with getting swept or think you will be taking lots of photo/potty breaks. However, it's very hard to meet up with friends/etc if you are near the front of the corral, and if they come late, they'd have to waft through hundreds or thousands of runners to get to you. Meeting up with people is generally easier to do if you're in the back of the corral.

Sorry, I can't reply to PM's until I get a few more posts.

So, if you are SultanPprShkr:

Yes. I copied your signature style because I assumed it was a standard format used to present basic information common to many users. Using a common style makes it easier for others to read so I was following your lead.

I am sorry to post this because I am sure it's already been mentioned before but can anyone give any advice/recommendations for staying on/off property for the race weekend.

It being a holiday weekend I am sure it's best to book in far advance.

Thank you
