**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

I sure have! Gas will be about $200 round trip, accommodations $250 (2 nights with park & fly) and $100 for food. That gives us a total outright savings of $1600-1700!! Well worth it :goodvibes

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 That gets 2 thumbs up!

space mountain and radiator springs racers

I love space too but found it a tad jerky on my last trip to WDW. I've heard the DL version is a bit better so i can't WAIT to try it!!

So excited, going to Disneyland Aug 12th - 18th!!! We haven't been anywhere for 2 years due to job loss. We are doing a Disney/Hollywood/Beach trip!

YAY!! :thumbsup2 Welcome! I will add your info to the list! It sounds like it will be a GREAT trip and also much deserved after a 2 year break on traveling!!!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK,

:tink:What is your FAVORITE DISNEY RIDE?

DCA: Easy, Radiator Springs Racers!

DLP: That one is tough! Would have to be between, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters or Indiana Jones.

Doubtful. The last 2 trips we did down there were on that week, I think because it amps up for the 1/2 marathon that weekend. Discounts usually end mid Aug.

Cheaptickets discount codes have not been working for DLR hotels lately. Orbitz currently has a code for 15% off. It is SPRING15 and expires tonight. It should work fine for your dates. If you miss it, I am sure there will be more offers.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep my eyes open but I won't get my hopes up.

What do you think the chances are for a discount at DLH or PP for August 20-27? If there is a good chance at a discount does anyone have a guess on how much it would be? I've been looking at Orbitz and Cheaptickets and found codes on Mousesavers for 5% and 10% off but I think I would need at least 20% off before I would be okay with the extra cost. Is there anywhere else I should look for discounts or do you think this is a lost cause?

We're staying at DLH from Aug. 21-28 and I noticed that the rack rate drops significantly starting on Sun. Aug. 24th, by about $100 a night. I think they go up again on the Fri the 29th, but the rooms are all booked up for the marathon. I think the weekday park hours start getting a little shorter at that time. Maybe there are schools starting back up that week. It's the cheapest week of the summer, which is why we chose to go at that time. We looked at PPH for our dates and it was about $2000 for the 7 nights, but decided to pay a little extra for DLH since we loved it there last year.

We booked the 24th-29th for this exact reason as well as an expected drop off in crowds since many schools will be back in session.

Has anyone else noticed that Matterhorn has been taken OFF the refurbs list???

Not sure if I should be :) or if I should be  about this??

It might mean they are not closing it down at all OR it could mean the the "rumor date of Aug 25" we saw at one point may come true after all! :confused3

On a more happy note, My ticker just dropped to UNDER 4 months!!! YAHOO!!!

I am starting to wonder how the jet lag is going to affect me on such a short trip. We are going to be three hours ahead, so staying up until 9pm for fireworks might be impossible for the kids. For their sake, I'd like to put it toward the end of our trip, but on the Saturday night that I think would work best, I need to get to bed early for the half-marathon the next morning. Going to be around 10pm wouldn't be such a big deal, but if it feels like 1am, it won't be pretty!

How long does it take to get acclimated to the jet lag? And how will it affect us during the day and our staying power in the evenings??

When we go to Florida WDW it's usually a 2 hour difference and I always start a week before to change my timing for waking up and going to sleep. It usually works great. Is it possible for you to do that?? Even if you are only able to change you waking and sleep times by an hour and a half it should help a lot I would think.

When we went 2 years ago it was really hot... Like 100+ most days. Last year it was more upper 80s with maybe one day of low 90s. We hit the parks early morning then too a break during the afternoon and back for the evenings.

I keep forgetting the metric conversion but I know that 100+ is stinking hot. I am hoping more for 90's at most!

We went August 2010 and it was like that. But you know, we still had a blast. :) It sure made the water area of Bugs Land a lot of fun for my one year old!

I might actually go back on GRR if it is super hot!

I just booked my trip over the weekend! I'll be there August 10 - 15 at the PPH. :cheer2:

we too had a blast no matter what the temp was.... but those water rides were especially nice pixiedust::cool1:

No question of the week? :)

What about the opposite to last week's question?

What is the one ride you refuse to go on?

For me, I will not go on California Screamin' in DCA and Splash in DL.

Although, depending on how hot it is in August, I might change my mind about Splash! :sunny:

I'm with ya on California Screaming. I cannot go upside down like that, but every other ride at the parks I am up for!

:goodvibes

I generally avoid anything that spins in circles. The Swings and the Astro Oribtor do not interest me one bit. I didn't do to well on CS last year, but I'll give it one more try this summer. Maybe. It's the dips at the end that I can't take. <shudder>
