Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

Hey! How did we fall to the second page?!? How's everyone's training going?

I started following the Tinker Bell, time goal by Jeff Galloway. It training officially started this week and I'm off to a good start. We purchased a treadmill so I'm finding it easier to run on that "any time" vs hitting the pavement.

Welcome to the group Kris! I'm also doing tink and princess for c2c!

I'm really happy where I am right now. I did 6.25 miles today, well ahead of the Galloway plan I'm following. I've got the finish in upright position bookmarked right now

The time is still slow, but faster than last year, so it's progress for sure! I'm in a really good place with diet and exercise and hope to get those 20-25 goal pounds off before Tink. I have a lot more to go after that, but feeling hopeful those 20-25 will be gone by the time we run.

How's everyone else feeling? Cooler weather for you?

I'll be earning my C2C with the W&D this year (did Tink in Jan). I'm actually a bit behind on my training because I got a bit of a chest cold this past week. Reading all of you guys training for the Tink while I still have the W&D BEFORE the Tink sure is keeping me on task! :) We're having a gorgeous Seattle September, so it's actually a joy to train!
Keep up the good work everyone!

I haven't read back, but is anyone going Goofy and then Tink? In. Sane. (yes, I'm one of them!)

Hi Everyone!

I've finally decided to just go for it and do the Tink and Princess for the C2C. The Princess falls on my birthday weekend so thought I'd give myself a trip to WDW as a gift.

I'm working on training, I just hit 8 miles which is the most I've ever run in one session. So it's a big deal for me. I'm just pleased I didn't collapse or die outright. :) Being a newbie, this training has given me a new appreciation for runner's clothes. I used to think expensive workout clothes were a gimmick - but now that I'm clocking in longer sessions I'm finding I can feel every ounce of sweat soaked up by my cotton shirt weighing me down. And those expensive wicking clothes and sports bras are making total sense now. I've been doing most of my training runs on a treadmill since it's still pretty hot here. How much harder is it running outside vs. on a treadmill?

Hope everyone else's training is going well too!

Running outside is definitely different than on a treadmill. It's harder if you are not used to it for sure. I would start doing your longer runs outside to get used to it. If it's too hot, go in the early morning. I'm in socal and have barely been able to get through short runs in the midday heat...bleh.

I am!!! Home long enough before Tink just to do laundry then pack and hop on down to DL! I'm in CA so WDW is a big trip vs. going down to DL so I'm there from Fri-Wed and then DL from Fri-last flight out Sun night. Definitely don't want to drive down after Goofy and risk legs cramping up.

cool! I'm a little scared...lol!

I'm used to running outside and using the treadmill is really new to me. I still like to have my longer runs around the track. I've been using our treadmill for shorter runs and working on speed since the treadmill makes you go faster. (If that makes any sense :confused3) I also think I would go crazy just looking out the window for 90 mins or so on the TM.

I can't believe it's getting close to the end of Sept. You know Jan. will be here before you know it. :hourglass

A tip I learned to help is to run on your treadmill at a 1% incline. It's supposed to help translate to outside running better.

I've been running at a 3 to 4 incline on the treadmill, since I don't want "running outside" to be hard for me to do. Maybe I'm over doing the incline ??

That would work like resistance training a bit. So, sort of strengthening. It will probably help build your performance speed some. If it's tough or you're getting discouraged then I'd bump it down to 2%.

Thanks for the tips! I'll add the incline on the treadmill and work on getting outside for the long runs. Admittedly the tv in front of the treadmill helps keep me going as it forces my eyes off of the control panel and desperately staring at the elapsing seconds.

cool! I'm a little scared...lol!

Meeee toooo! I'm trying to figure out how/what I want to do that week. I know ice bath after both races in WDW, and I'm bringing a foam roller w/ me for stretching... I just don't know if I want to schedule a massage Thursday or maybe Tuesday over at the GF. But no expectations for Tink at all. As long as I cross the finish line to keep legacy, I'm good.

You'll do it !! :)

Ooh, I'm hoping to get perfect pixie too...

I'm gonna post this on a couple of threads, so sorry if you read it twice, but just wanted to share that I got an email from Brightroom for their end of summer sale...50% off!!!! That's the best discount I've ever seen them offer. It's only good through 10/5 I think...the code is ENDOFSUMMER50. So, if you have any race pics out there you want to order, now's a good time. I used it to finally order the Tinker Bell half gallery download. It's a great deal!

15 weeks! I put up my training schedule at my desk at work today, which means it's "go" time! It's a 16 week plan, but i'm starting on week 2...was in WDW last week for the ToT 10-miler and a little vacay, so I gave myself a little break...but I'm back on the wagon starting today. Here we go again!

Now, what to wear on race day? Decisions, decisions :scratchin

I keep going back and forth on dressing up. Just can't decide!
