Since all of the Disney properties are host hotels, I would be surprised if they did not have early monorail service. It saves on bus transportation.

According to Disney, bus transportation is hugely cheaper than running the monorail. They don't run the monorail for evening extra magic hours any more, even though EMH's are for resort guests. They are trying to save money, and the monorail fleet.

From what I understand, the monorail was running before the race this year even though they reduced its regular hours months ago. Hopefully someone who ran this year can let us know for sure.

Yes, it ran this year as I used it from the Polynesian. There would be no added value to staying at the Poly, GF, or Contemporary if the monorail was not in operation, IMHO.

I guess the WDW Marathon weekend is big enough that all, or nearly all, resorts have transportation from them, and they did have the monorail up and running at 3 am for the Half Marathon and Full Marathon mornings this year. I was on it from BLT!

It was sooooo easy to get to Epcot that way, and I would stay at BLT for all Epcot-start races, but they aren't making the monorail available for all them.

I think the Poly is ideal for Marathon Weekend races. Contemporary would be good as well. POFQ is within walking distance.

With the reduced schedule of the monorail, I wouldn't be surprised if monorail service will be unavailable on race morning, at least until well after the start. According to the program, it isn't available for The Princess.

My dh was injured running the half this year. He was able to make it to MK where he took the monorail to Epcot so he was able to see me finish.

I just booked BLT for race weekend too. I did the half this year, and think I am going to up it to the Goofy for next. Not 100% sure, I will probably make that decision after I run my first marathon in May.

I'm thinking of doing the full marathon in 2013!

However, the miles really scare me! I train on a treadmill (I know, I should run outside, but because of my work schedule I don't have a ton of daylight and I'm just more comfortable there) and I can't image being on one for 5 or 6 hours! I know I need to work on getting out of that comfort zone, but I wish I could train for 26 at the gym!

Booked Animal Kingdom last night for marathon weekend - we always stay there for this event, because we can use points and stay concierge. However, we have never actually run the marathon - we registered for the 1/2 in 2010 and that was the year it was FREEZING and we were too chicken to go through with it.

I decided DH and I are doing this in 2013, come heck or high water! Does anyone know when registration should open up?

End of March?

I know I signed up in the middle of April last year, the day before the 1st price increase.

I saw on someone's post that we are 58 days away from Registration for Marathon Weekend 2013.

Thanks you two! I appreciate it. We're definitely in this time around, cold weather or not. :thumbsup2

I guess I'm officially going to run again marathon weekend. I'm all booked at BLT for the weekend. I'm planning to run the marathon and be cheerleader during the 1/2. Since I've never spectated a race before, this might be my first, is that sad? :rotfl:

Here is an article about a lady who trains on a treadmill.

Beachgirl2000 and NitroStitch: You can accomplish anything if you do the right preparation. You have a full year to train your bodies for the Marathon. You have run a Half Marathon already so you are already ahead 13.1 miles in your training. :)

Thanks RunRookie -- I cannot wait until registration opens -- By then I will have decided what to do! So exciting!

I have a question -- I am thinking of booking Fort Wilderness Lodge -- Do the runners run by there during the 1/2 (which I am totally leaning towards more than the full)? My husband and son will be with me and I NEED them there cheering me on!!!! :cheer2:

It's almost time for the '12 Princess.. I can't wait to hear about it from the runners!

We booked at BLT as well! Can't wait. Gearing up for the Princess Half now. :)
