Ok, Ok, I'm throwing my hat into the ring. Monday starts day 1 of training so I have a long way to go!!! I ran my last 5K in October and have been pretty inactive since then with just the occasional walking lately. I'm looking forward to getting back in shape and hope this is the motivation I need. I haven't decided if I will run the whole thing or try a run/walk interval. What are your goals?

We are a group of just 3 girls but we can do it! *thinking positive* princess:princess:princess:

I was considering training to walk the whole thing at a 15min/mi pace and then once I accomplish that try to add in run/walk training. Has anyone tried training this route? I found Hal Higdon's program to train for walking a half and that looks doable enough (I can walk a 3miles in 45 now if it is relatively flat) but then I don't know how to back up and add in running. I don't know, maybe I should just go straight for a run/walk program like Galloway's but I'm scared of getting injured or getting intimidated. My longest run was 4 miles and it wasn't easy (and that was about 6 months ago).

Suggestions?

I switched to the Galloway program because it is supposed to help ward off injury. I was just running straight through with shorter distances, and have found the Galloway method has made me faster overall, and my knee injury that I had for awhile it gone. I would start with just a short run, maybe 15-30 seconds with 1-2 minutes of walking, then work up from there. Good Luck!

I just spent all morning reading this entire thread and I'm more excited then ever. I don't know where I came up with the idea of running the Princess but I'm glad I did. I have never been a runner but I did a 5k last year and enjoyed it. After I decided I wanted to run the Princess I just casually mentioned it to my husband and now he's as excited as I am. He loves Disney but not as much as me. It's really great to see the support given on this thread. The love of Disney really brings out the best in people. I can't wait for February! Now all I have to do is keep training.

This is a very active thread! I tried to read as much as I can the whole thread. I really want to run the Princess 1/2 since I signed up for the Tinkerbell 1/2 and want to get my coast to coast. Still trying to figure out whether budget allows it. I am sooo inspired by all of you here:worship:

Ohhhh boy. I'm not touching the heel strike vrs forefoot strike with a 10-foot-pole this afternoon I'm too tired for a heated debate lol...but I will tell you there is a big difference between landing softly on your heels, and slamming your heels. My guess is you are slamming your heels, and that's causing your pain. Really try to focus on landing softly, and that should help.

I have been doing a lot of research and there is quite a bit of debate ... SORRY!! I have been focusing on landing SOFTER on my heel (trying to run quietly ... hahahaha!!), and this has helped a lot!!

Thanks for your time and support!!

I have been training along with my couch to 10K method that I have on my iphone and tells me when to run and when to walk. Reading ahead I realize its goal is to get me running all the time. I think I might do better with a run walk system. However, I find it a little confusing unless the iphone or some other device could tell me when to run and when to walk. For those of you using the combination system do you have a program or an app that you like? Sorry, if this question is really basic just totally knew to running.

I use RunKeeper to keep track of my intervals. It does the same thing as the C25K app, but I program the intervals. I'd be lost without it!

I finished my 5th half marathon yesterday! Marine Corps Historic Half.

Be careful of the Princess - it carries the running-addiction bug! I did the 2010 version as my first, and now I am officially crazy.

My time wasn't great, but at 3:06 it was considerably better than my 3:33 Princess 2011 time.

Also, I think I am about to become a pace group leader for the 13 min pace group of my local official Galloway training program (we have almost 500 members!), so hopefully I will be able to answer any questions anyone has about the program.

Hope everyone's training is going great!

I'd like to join too. Me and two of my girlfriends are planning to run the 2012 Princess Marathon. I've never run a race in my life, so my plan is to get out there this summer and do a 5K or two, then give a 10K a shot in the fall. I did the C25K program last fall, and ran at least three times a week for quite a while until the Holidays hit and I didn't run at all. I am finally getting back into it and starting over.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know everyone and get some motivation.

Anyone know if there will be any training t-shirts related to the Princess Marathon? I swear that I saw one that said "Princess in Training" or something like that on the Disney Store site, but I don't see it anymore.

I know! I would love a training shirt too!! I think it would help motivate me :goodvibes

They used to sell them, but stopped for the 2011 Princess...I was totally bummed too because I had seen it in prior years, finally got up the nerve to try this race as my first ever and then they don't offer them...and I REALLY wanted one! Very disappointing for sure. Who knows though, maybe they got enough complaints and will start selling them again. If not, you could always make your own :)

I would love to have a "Princess in Training" shirt and also the one that reads "Princesses don't sweat, they sparkle" :rotfl2:

Maybe we need to make some WISH princess in training shirts. They must have stopped doing the in training shirts all together, or at least selling them online. I've been trying to get a goofy in training shirt for January as well, but they only have last years shirts available.

Making shirts would be SUPER easy and probably much cheaper. :goodvibes

Love the Princess in Training and The Princesses don't sweat they sparkle. :) Awesome!

I've been wondering about you, Kat, so glad to hear you are doing well. :goodvibes

:woohoo: Awesome run and great news on the 13 min pace group leader!!! You would do great at that!

I've been running in my Princess Tech shirt we got at the event last year. It's become one of my favorites to run in actually...

I even wore it today for my 4+ mile run which was stunning to say the least. It rained most of the night so I had broken clouds, but I could see all the way out to some of the Channel Islands and even see some of the details on them... One of the many reasons I love running in the morning.

My only problem is I have the Disneyland Half in September... and I keep forgetting about it. I'm looking forward to the Princess one so much I keep having to remind myself I have to increase my mileage now because DLand is coming up pretty fast...

Ok, I started the Galloway program today and I already like it much better. My knee was a little achy when I started and even felt much better after I finished. I am getting so excited - I can't believe I might really do it. If I do make it I will be running and probably traveling alone so I hope there are other solos out there.

I looked at cafe press for T-shirts and here's a link to what they have - well appearently I can't post links but look at cafe press and search running T-shirts Princess and shirts will come up.
[no Princess in Training but I'm thinking of getting the Princess on the Run - shirt.
