I wouldn't worry about it. Jeff Galloway is the official Run Disney race guru so you will see lots of run/walkers. I was in corral B and was alot slower than anticpated due to an injury, I just was courteous when I changed from run to walk and no seemed to be ok. Literally THOUSANDS of people passed me, who cared, I finished and was able to get my medal. AND I had a blast on the way!

I don't think you will look silly at all.

Julie.... I think I Friend requested you on Daily Mile... at least I think I had the right person :rolleyes1

Back on track (haha!) We did run the other day and I felt great DH- not so much mwahaha:rolleyes1 sorry, but he's been a little in my face about how "awesome" he always feels despite not exercising since high school and continuing to smoke a pack a day, so him feeling a little of his own mortality brings him back down to earth.

I didn't run the day before yesterday as I messed up my back while chasing our stupid dog who got out, but I did do 30 minutes of Just Dance on the Wii, so I wasn't a total slug. Planning on hitting the treadmill again today.

DH and I have been contemplating a Disney vow renewal in the next year or so. . . I'm starting to wonder if I want to do it when we go down for the princess since it will be just the two of us. . . decisions, decisions.

How fun! Go for it! I also have a hubby that hasnt run in ages and now is running 8 minute miles. I just hate sharing a Garmin with him, he never resets it so I have to turn it on and see his 5k at 24 minutes....ugh, I mean "yeah hubby!" : )

Just stumbled accross this site, and the half marathon infact, a marathon for Princesses, my dream!

This may be a wee bit random, I'd love to do the run but I live in Melbourne, Australia and am not so keen on going it alone... I was wondering if there were any others looking for someone to run with and wanted to do the run together?

:wave2: Hi and welcome. I will more than likely run solo, none of my girlfriends wanted to run. :sad1: BUT my hubby will be there to cheer me on. And from what I've read on these boards (and the encouragement of all the other ladies ) some people do seem to split from their running partners at some point. I think you should go for it anyway! Trust me you won't be alone at all and we can all encourge each other. :cheer2: (that's the cheerleader in me coming out)

Welcome newbies and hi all....

I am still b'in and moaning about my foot...and am just resting it up for another week. Iam such a slacker I need to get back on things!

I will make sure to accept myWISH friends on Daily mile, but right now not so active.

So great to see everyone already training up!

I replied way back saying I was in for the Princess 2012 and am still very committed to it. A friend talked me into trying a 1/2 this past weekend to see how far off we are and we actually DID IT! I did the 13.1 in 2:37, and my friend did it in 2:36. My DH did it in 2:34, only because he hung back with his poor slow wife. :lovestruc I did a run 3/walk 1 and saw several of the Galloway Run Walk Run timers on the track. We did a pretty good pace for a newbie! We have done several 5 and 8ks over the past year but nothing near this. That has gotten me SO pumped about the Princess. I am still having to tell myself we actually did it. 2 yrs ago I was 100 pounds overweight and sitting in physical therapy for knee issues strictly due to my weight. 2 yrs later I have about 15 left to lose and ran a 1/2 marathon!! That's living proof that ANYONE can do it!! Let the countdown begin!!:dance3::dance3:

Question for anyone that has done the Princess before: Can I submit that time from my 1/2 on Sunday for a corral or does it have to be closer to time? I am thinking about doing a 10k to submit a better time anyway. I was very worried about running out of steam so I was very cautious with my speed.

AWESOME!!! What an accomplishment, the 100 lbs, the half. You totally rock! :yay:

Now, to your question. Yes, submit the time. I put down 2:35 last year with a proof-of-time of 2:49 from the summer before, and got corral C. I would say you could easily put down 2:25-2:30.

I would also continue with your plan on a 10K or something closer to time, and then you can use that to get moved up even further on packet pickup day.

Congrats!!

Just experimenting with putting pictures on here. This is the 2011 St. Paddy's day race medal for a 5k in Chicago.

:dance3:Ya know what I think I'll do a happy dance for all of us! :dance3: We are all doing this. Some of us are already running, some are coming back after YEARS of not running , and some are just starting out. I think we are all awesome!

I'm sorry I'm gushing but honestly I get all excited when people take control of their lives instead of letting things control them. :goodvibes

Congrats on your accomplishments - its very motivating for me to read - I'm trying to lose weight (37 pounds down so far, about 50 more to go) and am training for my first 10K in June and first 1/2 in July.

As I am a beginner I dont have any long runs under my belt. Can someone suggest an energy gel or like product for when I start my long runs? Are they taken before or during the run? Would you use them on a shorter run, like 3 miles, or just for ones longer than this?

How about sport beans? Are they good?

The gel I like is Power Bar Strawberry Banana, I use one if I'm going 6 miles or more then start after about 45 minutes and have one about every 45 minutes but not within 2 miles of the finish (if I can help it- for some reason the combo of exercise/carbs irritates my system if I don't "use up" the carbs by the end of the race and I have issues the next day.)

I've tried sports beans and they are ok too- but harder for me to handle on the course as they generally end up sweaty in my pocket LOL.

Congrats to everyone on their accomplishments (whether beginning or continueing a training plan.)

What is Daily Mile? is it an online log?

I currently use the clif gels that Disney hands out on the course. I tried them at Disney for the first time, and really liked the mocha flavor. The package is easy to open on the run too! I've also used the GU gels and those are good as well. GU has a sampler pack of all their gel flavors and some of their other products for available $25-$30. I started with that to figure out which flavors I liked!

How often you take gels during your long run really depends on you, and what your body needs. I take them every 4 miles or 40ish minutes during long runs. I usually don't take them towards the end of my training runs since I have a snack after those to recover. During races (1/2 marathon) I'll take one at mile 12 because I usually need some extra energy. I don't know whether I get the energy benefit from the gel before the end of the race, but I always feel a little burst of energy to finish strong!

How wonderful!! Congratulations on your first half!! how great to know going into the princess, that you've accomplished this much already!!:thumbsup2 Way to go and keep it up!!!

I just signed up for a 5mile race on May 7th in Chicago. It's called the Cinco De Miler and it'll be my longest race to date! I'm excited to have a race to look forward to in the near future! It's a 16min/mile pace race, but supports walking because it's on a bike path with no road closures. So pretty much you can take as much time as you want, they just can't guarantee there will still be free beer and tamales at then end when you get there :rotfl2:
