Another question - I'm looking for Disney tunes that have a good beat for running - thought it might help in my training is Disney is on my mind!

It's a short song from Pocahontas but I would always sing it in my head when I ran in high school. ... I can't recall the name at the moment and my lil one is asleep in my office (otherwise I'd look it up) but one of the lines is, "Eagle help my feet to fly"... wait I was able to find it without much noise: it is the second Savages song.

I'll try and think of more when the little one is awake. She'll like the music anyway :dance3:

One question - I've really been wanting a fitness watch, but I have very tiny wrists. For example, I'd like a Garmin 305 (recommended both here and at my local running store) but I can't wear something that big and heavy on my little wrists (to give you an idea, my wrists are less than 6 inches around). Any suggestions as to something I can use?

I'm really small too...I have the garmin 110, and I love it. Yeah, it's still kinda bulky, but I tend to like bigger watches anyway...this one is smaller than most of the other Garmin models and still does everything I want it to do...displays distance, time and pace...and heart rate if you are wearing the optional monitor. You can get all the other info from your run (splits, speed, elevation, etc) when you plug it up to your computer...it's really really easy to use...and it comes in a light gray w/ pink, which I have to admit is what attracted me to it initially :lovestruc

My trainer just got the 405, saw it last night, and it's nice too...touch bezel...also is a realtively smaller model for Garmin...a little "sleeker" than the 110 in looks. She seems to like it so far.

Does anyone know a good website that lists 10K runs - I live in Central PA and would like to do one or two this summer, but can't seem to locate any - I've 5k's and 1/2 and Full Marathons? Looking for something that my DD can submit her time from!

I've tried the runner's world site for races and it came up with almost nothing for Atlanta. Huh? Active.com is a good one, but if you reg through them they charge a "processing fee", like Ticketmaster. I always go to the race's site and print the form to mail in with a check.

Also, I would just google "5K (or 10K) races in (your city)" and see what you get. Locally, I use a site titled "RunGeorgia" so you might want to use similar search words for your location.

Unless you're one of the top three finishers, honestly the end of a race IS pretty anti-climactic from what I've seen. No huge ceremonies. Get your medal (if they're given out), get your mylar blanket (same as above), if at Disney head to the medical tent if needed (I said if at Disney because I don't know how it works at other races...it was a bit further down at the NYC Half), grab your post-race food, get your picture snapped, etc. That's pretty much all you need. In almost every race I've been in, there are people ushering you along the way, but you do have to pay attention - they don't take your hand and lead you. Pretty much follow the rest of the people. :)

I didn't have any prob. knowing where to go, but I was speaking most to the fact that I was running alone. Although I am SERIOUSLY bummed that I didn't know there were princesses about to take pictures with! Also, I was frustrated with the transport system. I left my car with Julie b/c I had to get back to the room earlier for a massage appt hubby booked for me. I asked an on-site cast member if I could catch a bus in the front of Epcot. He told me I could and pointed me in the right direction. I get to the front to be informed that no buses are running until 10:00am. So I had to truck all the way back through Epcot to try to catch the boat from Epcot to the Swan. I was told by one cast member that I couldn't get through b/c the world showcase wasn't open yet. Thank goodness I didn't listen to her and went another way, b/c I was certainly allowed through and the boats were running. However, that was a ton of back-and-forth that was very frustrating! At least I will know for next year!!

my wrist is really tiny too (i just measured it and came to about 5 inches heh) and the garmin 405 works fine for me. the bezel doesn't really bother me like some others have complained. it is a bit bulky, but it works - NO idea how the 305 would have fit on my wrists

It does depend on which race directors submit information. But I would imagine that especially in the South the races slow WAY down in the summer because of the heat. I'd think Spring and Fall would be the high times for racing down there.

Tammy ~ on runnersworld.com I'm finding several 10K options in Pennsylvania...I don't know what cities are considered "Central Pennsylvania". As long as the course is timed and provides the results on the internet so you can send Run Disney a link you should be fine. (I'd also print it off just in case...though they will take results on a website displayed on a smartphone - at least they did with me at Marathon Weekend. I hadn't gotten my 15K results printed off, but I pulled them up on my phone and showed them to the girl at runner relations.

I'm kinda bummed. The 10K I ran for my 10K time (my first 10K) is being held again this year (2010 was the inaugural) and I really wanted to do it again...but they have it on the same day as the Pride March (which I will be participating in) and the day after my running club's sponsored NYRR race. :( So sad. I was looking forward to getting revenge on that course.

Also just thought pretty much anything from The Little Mermaid... and The Lion King probably has a few. I must confess I was never a fan of The Lion King though so I can't recall the songs as well.

And I guess it would depend on what gets you moving and that's probably different for everyone. I personal love words to get me moving although Chariots of Fire by Vangelis is a classic :goodvibes even if it's not Disney

Another classic, for me, that I would sing in my head while running in high school (however not Disney)

I have a whole workout playlist with only Disney songs. Here are some:

Prince Ali
Zero to Hero
Why Should I Worry
Under the Sea
I Wanna Be Like You

Don't know how close you are to state college, but I found one for this summer

I wish I lived closer cause I'd love to run around that area. Used to live there and totally miss it!!

I found last year, google was my friend. There were LOTS of races as we have a pretty big running community here in ATL even in the summer, hey, its the home of Jeff Galloway :goodvibes and it seemed like I came across lots more races using google than depending on one particular sight.

Is there a track club in your town? They are a GREAT resource for local and nearby races. A running store is very helpful in finding something you need!

Are you going on a vacation? See if there are any races where you are headed..or hey, plan a trip based on a race!

Good luck! I am sure you will find something.

As for music, I LOVE Mulan, "I'll Make a Man out of You", I am ready to kick some Hun butt when I hear this song. Also, the John Williams Olympic Songs are GREAT to make you feel like you are an Athlete! Well at least for me.

Which reminds me - just signed up for the lottery for the Peachtree!! Y'all come down for this one - 4th of July in Atlanta to run a 10K with 60,000 "friends"!!! :scared1: I've grown up here and never run the Peachtree, so the hubs tells me I have to do it at least once.

This is a VERY fun race, done it a few times..though its so crowded, not one for PR. Darn you Amy, now i am going for my lottery number for the hottest race of the year, and I mean temp wise and the fact so many do it! And i have to say, the end of THIS one, you know where to go!

Speaking of.....

We will be in ATL over 4th of July and I was looking for a race in the area, but couldn't find anything on Active.com (couple of weeks ago). Did you manage to find any up that way?

Wendy

Oh wait... need to learn to finish reading the message before replying!! Thanks!

My husband told me about the princesses, but they looked so far away and I just wanted to change and get to Kona for breakfast. Although I must say the  I had at the finish was the best I have ever had. But I also say that about the ham sandwich the hospital fed me after my 36 hour labor with my first child!

I just looked on the rungeorgia.com site this afternoon and I don't think many of the sites have a lot of the summer races up yet. However, as I mentioned before, the P'tree is on the 4th and is tied for the largest 10K in the country, I believe. If you don't mind the crowds, it's a pretty great tradition! However, today is the last day to sign up for the lottery. It's gotten so big that they have moved to a lottery entry system. Hubby and I signed up as a group so that if one of us got in, both of us would. If interested, you can check out the site for the Atlanta Track Club. That would also be another great resource for races.

I can relate with the ham sandwich. I had a submarine sandwich complete with balogne  after my son was born and I'd swear it was the best sandwich I had ever had.

Funny  story. Jane from Tarzan was out right before mile 12, and she was telling us to hurry up and get to those bananas at the finish. She said she had friends that liked bananas, and they were headed that way! It's the little things at mile 12 that make me:rotfl:

 I had just the opposite experience...too many people telling me where to go and trying not to let me go where I WANTED to go! After I found my family, I realized there was a rip in the cloth my medal was hanging from so I had to make the trek back to that area to get another one...was stopped by at least 3 people and told I could not go back...I just held up the medal, pointed at the tear and yelled "I have to get a new one!" and kept walking...I'm really short so I can get lost in a crowd easliy...no one chased me down! :thumbsup2

Okay, I've made a HUGE mental note to check my medal for tears because it would drive me completely insane if mine was torn! ;)
