I ran my first 10K this morning. I finshed in 1:09:52. It was about 6 minutes faster than I thought I would do. When I ran 6.2 about a week ago I did it in about 1:17. Although it was muggy that day and today was cool and dry. Overall I'm really happy with my time.

When you submit your time for the Princess, does it have to be online? They had everyones times printed up and on tables, but I don't think they post them on line. :confused3

Great job! :goodvibes

So here's my question - I sent in a 10K time of 1:03...would sending in my half marathon time of 2:18 potentially get me in a better corral?

Thanks! :)

Congrats on the great time! You could always just submit it since it wouldn't hurt you any, but I think going off of last years breakdown it would put you in the same corral regardless, but of course that is dependent on what everyone else submits.

I did 7.5 last night in 1:28:35. It was a little slower then I wanted, but it has been awhile since I have done over a 10K so I was happy with it, plus I am pretty sure it was a record for me for that distance so I'll take it.

That pace is not slow! Great Job

Hello Princesses! I ran my first half marathon today! The last couple miles were rough (my butt/hamstrings cramped up) - but I still finished with a smile on my face! :)

So here's my question - I sent in a 10K time of 1:03...would sending in my half marathon time of 2:18 potentially get me in a better corral?

Awesome job! You would probably be in the same corral with either time. I think corral B last year was princesses with expected finish times from 2:01-2:30. What did you estimate your finish time would be when you signed up? If you estimated higher than 2:18, then you could email to submit a new time, but if you estimated less than 2:18, I wouldn't bother. You can always bring a print out of the results to the expo if you think you are in a lower corral than you should be.

Holy smokes I'm sore! Did another eight miler yesterday then showered and went straight to work and had to stand for five hours. My hips have decided they don't agree with this whole half marathon thing.......

Completed my long run Saturday 8 miles in 1.13- (five minutes faster than the week before), then another 2 miles with my son's jr. running club about a 30 min after my inital run. I'm actually starting to believe I can do this. My goal is to be able to run my first 10K Nov 19, right around an hr., My son and I are running a local 4 miler at the end of Oct.

So I've been thinking I'd like to try to run a couple more days a week to try build some endurance and improve my ability to run long (ie. a full mile) I know Jeff Galloway's program only says 3 days a week but over the last two weeks I'm really questioning if I'll be able to run 13.1 miles. What are other beginners doing to get into shape or what have other people done to get into shape for their first half marathon?

Switch over to the Hal Higdon plan. Just be careful and gradually ease yourself into more than three days. It is easy to overdo it and then all that accomplishes is an injury. His plan only went up to 10 miles and although I was grumpy for the last 3 miles, I think it prepared me for the race. I went over that for my second half and I didn't notice enough of a difference. I was still grumpy for the last three miles! :rotfl:

I can totally relate to wanting to be able to run more NOW, but you also have to take into the consideration the fact that your body needs to catch up with your head. Your muscles, joints and bones need time to get used to all the impact and Jeff's program is designed to ease you into being ready at the right pace physically. Like the program says, if after 3 weeks, you feel like you can do more, switch to the 'to finish in the upright position' program...

Good luck - I'm having the same mental battle.

PS: I'm doing cross-training as well - I do workouts from Jillian Michaels' website. They're tough, but GOOD.

Just a word of warning on discount tickets:

Checked with our code we got after registering for my 3 tickets, 7day with PH and h20 came to $846 after tax. It wouldnt let me use my Disney Visa Rewards gift card online so I had to call the IRUN #. The CM on the phone INSISTED that the total was $1081 for the 3 tickets. I explained the online $ amount and she said "oh that must be last years ticket prices". This went on for at least 10 minutes me saying this cant be right please check again. She stayed adamant and said "maam I will have to charge you $1081 if you want these tickets".

She then goes "oh um let me put you on hold". 10 minutes on hold (not kidding) and she comes back and says "sorry I had you down under the wrong sport discount". So the moral is, is if I wouldnt have pushed as hard, I wouldve overpaid on these tickets. If you have to call in your order make sure you check the total online so you know what the "real" price should be!

By the way she says, count on 3 weeks for delivery of tix. Not sure if this is true or not, but just for planning purposes for everyone. I will post when I get them in so you all have an actual "arrival" time from order to delivery!

I'd also add that alot of the plans out there are deisgned so that you will "peak" on race day...at least that's how my trainer explained it to me. Doing too much too soon could cause you to peak too early and you could feel burned out by the time race day rolls around. That theory totally worked for me too...I followed the 16 week plan I had exaclty, which only went to 10 miles for the longest run and included a taper period as well. By the time race week rolled around and I did my final 3 mile run a few days before the race, I had to hold myself back and take it easy...and I still ended up with a personal training PR for that run. Your body will just be ready to go and it's a great feeling!

does anyone know how much leeway do they give you on goal vs your submitted times for corral placement?

my goal would be around 1:58ish (although I would be ecstatic with anything under 2 hours) but my current PR (set in Feb) is only 2:03

Hi all! I registered for the Princess Half and am crazy excited about it but also a bit nervous. It will be my first half and I am starting from nearly ground zero so I need a lot of training and a bit of pixie dust!! I am on week 3 of the Jeff Galloway program for beginners and so far so good but I can not look ahead for it makes me to anxious so taking it one day at a time. Anyways, I love watching all the times and comments on here for I find it very inspirational so I wanted to say "hello". :flower3:

I did have a question...has anyone ever stayed at the BC while running the Princess Half? I'm curious if you can get to the race start without a taxi.

Keep running everyone!!! :cheer2:

I had my own wardrobe malfunction - My shorts too have become quite loose but I keep them tight with the draw string - so the other day they seemed really loose so I tried to tighten the draw string but my ear buds got caught in the draw string ties - I managed to salvage the ear buds and not drop my shorts all while running I was quite proud.

I run to the Jeff Galloway Lolo - ultimate 10k app which does change the beat of the music to keep both my running and walking pace. It does have some problems but overall I'm pleased.

One question, I will be running in my first race a local neighborhood 5K - when I run to the app it always starts with a 3 minute warm-up walk - should I do that? should I try to warm-up before or just start with the run/walk ?( I run 30 seconds and walk 45 seconds).

I am super nervous about finishing last but my daughter reminded me that some people would be running a 10K so no one would have to wait around for me to finish.
Thanks,
Martha

I would take the time pre-race to warm up (walk around a bit, do a few jumping jacks, stretch, etc.), and just start the race running so that your final race time isn't slowed by the 3 minutes warm up time. Good luck!

I fallow the the Galloway program but I also go to the gym Mondays and Wednesday and run 30 minutes plus I do the machines. Some weeks Im tired so I dont do Wednesday. But I know how you feel some weeks Im afraid Im not running enough and I wont make it.

I stayed at BCV last year and for race day we walked to YC and took the bus from there. Trying to get accurate information about the buses was a little frustrating. The BC concierge kept a list of 'host' hotels as they were added during the weekend so that is how we knew the YC had a bus. But neither hotel had correct or the same information. What YC told us about pick up times and locations was completely different from what BC was saying. It all worked out on race day but we were a little nervous.

To get to the expo, we took a taxi from DHS to the ESPN complex. We took the Poly bus from there because we were headed to the MK.

It all sounds complicated but it really wasn't.

Merci

I am following galloways 3 days a week, I try to do weights or something 2 days a week.

Has anyone had issues with their hip flexor. I have been in pain in my left hip flexor, I can walk fine, but it hurts alot to run, its been about a month now.

That pace is not slow! Great Job

Thank you! I didn't mean it was slow, it was actually a new 10K PR for me, but I want to finish in about 2:30 so I am trying to keep my pace around 11:30 and this was a bit over that.

Last year I only ran 3 days a week and I was fine. This year I am also running 3 days a week, strength cross-training 2, and yoga 1 (day after long run) with 1 day off. Today is actually my day off and I am chomping at the bit to do something so I might throw in some light ab work.

I was doing M4M and switched over to Galloway a couple months before the race because I wanted to go the distance before the race. My longest run ended up being 12.5 miles and I was pretty grumpy the last 3 miles too.

I am not sure how they calculate it but I have heard they are pretty generous in their predictions. But those have always been 10k times, not a half, but I am guessing they should give you some leeway for improvement over time?? :confused3

Has anyone had issues with their hip flexor. I have been in pain in my left hip flexor, I can walk fine, but it hurts alot to run, its been about a month now.

Last year I had a bit of hip flexor issues with my left hip. I really just tried to stretch it out real good after a run. Mine never bothered me during the run, but later the pain could get kind of bad.
I keep meaning to go to a chiropractor because I am sure I am all out of whack, but I have been putting it off. I guess I better do it before my mileage gets up there again.
