Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Thanks Joan. Do you know if there is a way to find out what roads will be closed and what time they will be closed?

I was hoping my mom would come to see me finish but my dad decided not to come. My plan was he could stay with the kids and Mom could come over for the finish. I'm so excited for this and no one around here (home) is. That's why I'm on here every second I can be! princess: Any time I mention plans or try to figure out a plan with DH he just tells me what he DOESN'T want to do while we are at Disney. All I want to discuss is race logistics. He's really supportive when I come back from a run and I tell him how far I went. But when I tell him I'm going out I get "(sigh) fine/alright". I feel like Im inconviencing him by going out. He comes and goes from here as he pleases between first aid calls and having to run back to work. but heaven forbid I go out for a run on a weekend afternoon. To me that's not really being supportive. At this point I don't even care if he's at the finish. I'm more excited to share in it with all of you gals here! Sorry for the vent. I know you all would understand.

Hi, I just wanted to see how things are going!!! I think there are a lot of ups and downs in relationships...give and take. Hope all works out!!!

Thanks for sharing the tracking link! I can't seem to get it to work, I keep getting an error message that they are unable to register my info. HMMM!

Your doing the Ralston Creek Half I'm guessing (I looked up races out of curiosity, I honestly didn't think they had halves this early in the year I thought the earliest wasn't until March)? Best of luck with that! And remember are times going to improve when we drop elevation (twice I dropped in elevation pre long distance race twice I felt like I was on fire for at least 17 miles (the first time this happened was during a marathon, could not persuade self to slow down, not the best idea)) and with the fast course!

That's the one! My longest training run to date is 11 miles so hopefully I will make it to the finish tomorrow. I was surprised to see a 1/2 this early in the season here too. I am so excited about the fact that the Princess is at sea level. :rotfl: I figure if I can do okay on the Ralston Creek 1/2 tomorrow I should be set for the Princess in TWO WEEKS!!!

I completed my last long run this morning on a treadmill in Patagonia! It was weird trying to convert kilometers to miles and also figuring out correct pace. The run ended up being two hours and I am pretty sure I ran about 11 miles. It feels awesome to know taper starts now and I can just relax for the next couple weeks other than some shortish runs. Hope everyone is getting excited and ready.
Happy Runnng!
Pam

I'm with you on the tapering! Ready to just run easy for a bit! Trying to save my knee which usually starts bugging me around mile 9ish when I am pounding the pavement!

Still hoping to get my corral changed so I can have a better race and not have to wait so long!

I think my last short run will be about a mile or two on the 2o or 21st with a walk on the 23rd just to stretch my legs.

What is everyone else's plan?

I use Gu at mile 4, then around 7-8 and then again at 12 to push me through to the end. I like the ones with caffeine. I tried the Sportbeans yesterday during my run and they didn't do much for me. Maybe they would be better after the race?

I also eat and english muffin with peanut and a banana with my coffee on race morning. I seem to need a lot to get me going and keep me going.

I'm wondering about getting my food on Saturday afternoon to ahve it ready for sunday morning in my hotel room. Any ideas? I don't want to be racing around at the last minute.

not sure when you are getting into Orlando, but I would just pack your english muffin, a small container of PB in your check in suitcase (unless you are not checking a bag). I'm there for 8 nights at a 2 bd villa so we are getting garden grocer to deliver groceries. OR like you said go the day before and get something as similar as you can to what you eat.

I've seen lots of people run on the grass next to the road, and I assume they are doing that to reduce how hard they are hitting the ground. Just an idea if your knee starts to bug you during the race. The only down side is that you have to watch your footing a lot more than if you were running on the road.
I usually running several short 2-3 mile runs the week before a race. Since I arrive on Friday I'll probably hit the gym at AKL to run a few miles to alleviate any of the soreness in my legs from traveling and to loosen my legs up. Hopefully I'll be walking around the parks enough on Saturday to stay loose before Sunday.

I use both GU and sportsbeans when I run. I never really feel a surge of energy when I use either, but I fuel every 30-40 minutes. I never really crash during a run or a race, so I think fueling ahead of time keeps me from crashing.
I would pack at least the peanut butter to bring with you since you would probably have to buy a lot more than you need at the giftshop. You could get the english muffins and bananas at most food courts or gift shops.

I ran through on the grass to help my knees, but you do have to watch out for holes. It wasn't too big of an issue, but something to be aware of.

I'm going to be getting in a few 2-3 mile runs before the race as well, at least one Port Orleans where I'm staying...

I got a 12 mile walk in today, in a few min over 3 hours, so I am feeling really good about finishing the Princess. My bum leg seems to be holding up great, too! Feet are kind of pissy, but I guess that is to be expected.

Semi-miserable run this morning - set out to do 12 right when the snow flurries started!!!! 25 mph winds and sleet was sticking to my pants. I run along the Chattahoochee River, and at one point there is a grouping of really tall pines. As I was running by there was a LOUD creaking and it DEFINITELY was motiviating to put on some speed! I was cutting it close to get my son & 4 friends to Chuck E. Cheese for his birthday - another happy experience! - and I hit 9 miles right as I was passing the parking lot where my car was. I thought, "Enough!" As my DH assured me, 9 miles is nothing to feel guilty about!!! I had a great pace, probably b/c I was so freakin' cold and wanted it to be done!!!!

Thanks to whoever suggested the honey stinger chews. I usually use GU - one chocolate and one vanilla. On my 11 mile run, I ate 2 chocolate and I don't think that sat well. I saw the honey stingers in Sports Authority and thought I would give them a try. They seemed to work well and I liked the texture - Clif shot bloks are too chewy and I'm picking those out of my teeth the whole way! These were much better.

I think these are going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life! Thank goodness they are also somewhat busy weeks to help keep the mind off the waiting! My sister very thoughtfully sent me some $$ to put toward my trip. She & her DH are higher-ups with no kids, so she is very generous with family members. It's nice to know I have a little "mad money" for the expo!!!

Does anyone know what the facebook updates look like and how often are they posted? I don't want to clog up people's news feeds, but I think it'll be pretty cool to have my race time/results posted to my wall.

I don't know what they look like, but they are posted at the 5k, 10k, 15k, and finish marks.

I think it's rather new, but if someone knows the answer I too would love to know! Otherwise I'll be sticking with my Nike+ app.

I actually did Facebook tracking for the Tink give me about five minutes to pull it up (lots of things to go through between now and those notices) and I'll copy paste it to show you guys.

Okay here is how it appears on Facebook along with a run Disney logo and the name of the race:
Tinker Bell Half Marathon:
TAYLOR WYSS at Finish in 3:53:56.
Pace: 17:51 min/Mile.
Time of Arrival: 9:50:31.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon:
TAYLOR WYSS at 15K in 2:44:46.
Pace: 17:41 min/Mile.
Estimated Finish Time: 3:51:49.
Estimated Time of Arrival: 9:48:19.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon:
TAYLOR WYSS at 10K in 1:55:54.
Pace: 18:39 min/Mile.
Estimated Finish Time: 4:04:29.
Estimated Time of Arrival: 10:01:08.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon:
TAYLOR WYSS at 5K in 1:08:35.
Pace: 22:05 min/Mile.

If anyone want to know why I have a ridiculous time for the 5k and not for the rest of the race I have two words, character stops.

Tonight at Church, 2 of the songs had something in the verses about running :lmao:

The first was the song "Here at this Table"
~Children of every color, from every land, you are His own, He gathers you gently, don't you grow weary, for when you run, you run with the Lord

The other was "Though the mountains may fall"
Can't remember exactly how it goes but something about when you run you won't be weary or tired because the Lord gives you strength!

2 weeks ~ 2 songs ~ 2 excited

:goodvibes
