Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

It's central florida - you don't get much flatter than that. There are a few underpasses that some say are the "hills" but if you train anywhere that's hilly, you find them much of anything.

The further back you are, the more people tend to have fun with the race, so I would definitely bring proof of time to get you in the appropriate corral like others have said. When I ran it two years ago, I was bumped back to B so I could start with my dad. I was a little nervous, but it ended up being pretty open the whole race. There is such a huge range of pace in the front two corrals (corral is 2:10 or faster, and then B is 2:11-2:30 or something along those lines) that people end up being so spread out. I think the boys are now being bumped back to c nowadays, so c might end up being the same way too.

Also don't forget to keep the weather in mind, especially coming from a colder climate. If it ends up being 60+ at the start, you will most likely have to scale back your pace. A lot of the race is on highways, so there's a whole lot of shade.

My personal plan would be if the weather was good, race the heck out of the course and go for a PR. But if it was warm, I would probably just take pictures and have fun, since a PR wouldn't be happening anyways.

Good luck!

I'm actually in Corral F (just checked the corral numbers again, I got my corrals mixed up). Yeah not to fast but I am looking to hopefully run around 3:00 half or even run sub that if I get lucky. Which is a good 20 to 30 minutes off of my normal pace but I have progressively getting faster in training (training a minute behind predicted pace of 14:00 min mile) plus with the huge elevation change playing in my favor (flying in from Denver here) I think its highly probable.

I am a bit notorious about character stops in previous Disney races (added a little too much time doing Tinkerbell almost got pulled off course but managed to make up time easily in the stretch between Disneyland and CA). So I'm making a policy of only stopping unless I've never had a picture with them before (and considering this is my third Disney race, there's a fairly long list of who I've had pictures with, I have had a picture with pretty much every major princess except Mulan and Pochohantas (who was on course at Tinkerbell but I couldnt stop for), and only if I really want a photo with them (meaning Cinderella characters) and only if the line's really short. Which may happen with me be in the back corrals. When I did WDW last month the lines were nonexistent except for usually one girl in front of me who would stop. I would pretty much run up get the photo then run off. Since I'm projecting a lot faster pace than at WDW I don't think that will happen this time around.

I actually will be running in semi costume. Something that makes it say that I am not just in running gear but not quiet a full out costume either. A blue sparkling top (not tech shirt but I'll deal with it) and maybe a blue skirt or some sort of blue bottom if I can get something at the expo. Going to the mall tomorrow to see if I see anything light weight that I like for the costume.

Thanks for the advice from both of you.

Just another quick question do they normally sell multi color bras at the expo. The top I have is currently a tie back, I could alter it but that may take a while so I was just thinking of seeing if I could get a similarly colored bra to wear under it.

Thanks for the recommendations. The ones I have now are just the Hanes racerback over-your-head kind but I think they might ride up during a long race. I was shopping for new ones but notices a lot of the bras that "separate" have seams in the middle of the inside cup. I would think that's a recipe for a bloody, chafing disaster!!

I have the C9 sports bras from Target too, and love them. No chafing, no riding up.

on the Bra topic, the only one I could find for my 42b (yes a little b) was the Old Navy, but it is dark pink, it is going to be swell under my white running shirt, lol. In canada, if you aren't a 38 and below tuff luck getting any kind of bra to support during exercise, sigh....

I have 1 day in Buffalo before our flight to MCO, where should I be looking??

Friday, Feb 24th Big W.I.S.H. meet at 7:00pm

It looks like the consensus of everyone's votes was for Grand Floridian.

Thank you for your feedback! I see Dagny also is planning a Saturday MEET at 4pm at DTD in front of the carousel and a potential Monday morning MEET on the Boardwalk Bakery, time not specified.

Please take pictures and post them!

Ugh, wish I could make the Friday meet, but my plane won't land in time. Take pictures! Also, if you haven't joined the Facebook WISH group, please do so. There will be a WISH meet on Saturday as well in DTD. Monday there is always a "bling" meet at the Boardwalk Bakery @ 9 am for anyone interested.

OK ladies, got another email, and I really am in Corral B :woohoo: YAY!!

Loving the merchandise!! I'm holding out hope that there will still be a Dooney left by the time I arrive Friday afternoon! I hope I hope I hope!!! They are too stinkin cute!!!!

I'm so excited I'm about to bust!!! :yay::yay::yay:

At the Tink, the Dooney's were sold out in two hours. If you want one, I would highly recommend that you get there EARLY. Also, note that the race emblem is only on the two bigger bags. It is not on the wristlet - which I learned the hard way from the Tink :(

Hi Fellow Princess in Training,

I was wondering if someone would graciously inbox me the discount code for running warehouse. I am in need of some arm warmers. Thank you and YES the excitement is growing, Growing, GROWING!!!!!:banana::banana:

Code is WISHRACED :)
Scion5220 Are you running all the Disney races in one year? That would be a pretty awesome accomplishment.

I have two goals for 2012 - to "compete" in every race that Disney offers AND to run (or shall I say... at least walk briskly) one 1/2 marathon each month.

Won't be long now!

On the bra topic - i'm a huge fan of moving comfort's "vixen" bra. I hate the "mashed in" feeling you get from my sports bras. These totally don't mash you at all! I have a few more styles from the brand that are great too (I just can't think of them off the top of my head.) But moving comfort is good stuff!

Re: bras at the expo - I'm not sure what they will have, but I would highly recommend NOT wearing a new bra on race day. Do you want to find out at mile 3 that your new bra chafs you and doesn't hold you the way you want? I didn't think so :lmao: Stick to what you know.

My race outfit (I had a short and long sleeve made)

This is the front logo (my husband is a designer) it is a mix of my last name and my sister-in-laws last name,we have matching outfits.

This is the back logo on the shirt. The 27 is my sis' favorite # and well you guys know what Dig Deep is for me. The CJK with angel wings is my mother-in-law that passed from cancer. She will be "running with us" now....

I love the shirt design and skirt..and tattoo!

Good point thought I normally put anti chaffing where my bra goes anyway just in case (rather be safe that to have an irritated skin area after the race).

The Princess Half invaded my dreams last night. Dont really remember much of the dream other than some sort of chaos involving the start line. I blame the Disneyland corrals for that portion of the dream.

Thanks for the Stitch info, that's my favorite character!

Ok ladies....let's talk sports bras. I've had plain cotton bras that I've trained in short runs with but don't know how they'll "hold up" during a 1/2 marathon. I'm not large-chested by any means (full B) but I want to make sure I'm comfy without spending too much. Any suggestions???

Here's another vote for the Champion brand at Target! I have one with underwire (hook closure, still over the head though) and one without. To be honest, the underwire rides up a lot and the straps bother my shoulders. I got the over the head type and love it! It flattens me out a little bit and makes it less painful to run! :rotfl:

I thought I would post some pictures from last year’s race just to get everyone excited!

Here’s a picture of me with the pirate at the start of the race, when it’s still dark.

But don’t worry, you’ll see them again after you leave the Magic Kingdom. And it will be nice and sunny!
DSC08963-1.jpg

After you go through the castle, take a left and there will be a photographer there to take your picture in front of the castle (they will take one with your camera also).

Here’s me with one of the Incredibles!
DSC08978-1.jpg

Yummy – Tarzan and friends! Again, I saw them twice on the run.
DSC08974-1.jpg

Here’s one of the road markers. They are at every mile. I like to take pictures of them all.
DSC09008-1.jpg

My neice & I are getting some well-deserved ice cream after we got cleaned up.
DSC09016-1.jpg

We wore our medals to the Magic Kingdom and got lots of congratulations. We waited in line (with all of the kids) for this picture.

I decorated our hotel door with magnets.

Hope you enjoyed these.
We'll see you in a couple of weeks!

OMG...you stopped for photos and still saw the Mile 8 marker at 1:16:53?! :thumbsup2

I'm a 38 D/DD, so the B makes me a bit jealous when it comes to running. Sports bra is my #1 most important piece of running gear after my shoes. I absolutely need underwire and a hook closure.

The Champion 6242 is the only one I have found that supports, flattens, and makes it possible to run without the I-can't-breathe feeling.

The Moving Comforts that I have tried that come in my size with underwire, and the Champion 6209 are just too thick, or something.

Is anyone getting into Orlando on Thursday night and staying at Caribbean Beach? I will be solo that night and was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up for dinner?
Only two weeks and we will have our race numbers....Yippee!

Yes I did stop - a lot. I like to run the Disney races for fun and take plenty of pictures! I run the Rock & Rolls more for time - but still enjoy them.

Cute pics Gretchen! Is your neice joining you again this year?

Yes, my neice and 2 of my sisters that I talked into doing this run (and Tinkerbell last month) after I finished the Princess last year. I had so much fun that I though they would enjoy it as well. One sister has lost 25lbs from all her training!

Pam, we're staying at the Caribbean Beach resort. I'm not sure what we will be doing on Thursday night. But maybe we can hook up. Why don't you PM me and give me your cell phone number.

My sister and I are staying at POR - I'm running the 1/2, she's not. She's wanting to drive over with me - I did get the race retreat, and she got the platinum cheer squad package. It's my understanding she can't get into the race retreat until 5:30 since she's a "cheerleader", which she's fine with. Is there any problem with non-runners being there early and just waiting around?

I'm running with her in the 5K the day prior - anyone else doing this?

It was 9 degrees heree in MN today! Ran 10 miles in just under 2 hours on the TM. Boring!

I am wondering if any of you use Gu & how often? I am planning to pack my own.

Here are my words to live by: "If you didn't do it in training - Don't do it in a race!"

If you fuel with gels in training, fuel at the same point(s) on the course. If you didn't use gels in training, out on the course isn't the time to try them, unless you are in an extreme situation.

I fuel at 20 calories per mile (small jawbreakers), and gel at mile 8, just because between 7-8, my stomach starts growling like crazy! I brink my own gels, but I will pick another one up on the course. I use the one that I pick up in training to replace the one that I used, or to try out if I've never used that brand before.
