Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Probably a "duh" question, but how do I know which corral I am in? I didn't see it mentioned in the email or waiver. I put in an estimated time of 3 hrs. Thanks :)

Thanks for the Stitch info, that's my favorite character!

Ok ladies....let's talk sports bras. I've had plain cotton bras that I've trained in short runs with but don't know how they'll "hold up" during a 1/2 marathon. I'm not large-chested by any means (full B) but I want to make sure I'm comfy without spending too much. Any suggestions???

I really love my Champion sports bra that has underwire and hooks in the back. The straps are adjustable (with velcro) and it just seems to do the best job...better than just the pull it over your head types. I do put bodyglide under the underwire part and where it goes under my arms and where the straps hit the top of my shoulders though. :thumbsup2

This is the one I have (just from some random website, can't remember where I bought mine.)

I like the full-on compression bras. The girls are going nowhere in those things :). Athleta (on line) has a good selection - and each bra has a recommendation as to what size it's best for, what exercise, etc.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you princesses soon! This will be my 1st WDW 1/2 marathon but overall #4. I missed the cut-off to turn in my race time and was told I needed to bring it to the Expo. Has anyone ever been able to get their placement? I ran a 1:14 10K which puts me under the 2:45 cut-off. I am in so bummed and am in corral H!

My race outfit (I had a short and long sleeve made)
photo1.jpg

This is the front logo (my husband is a designer) it is a mix of my last name and my sister-in-laws last name,we have matching outfits.

This is the back logo on the shirt. The 27 is my sis' favorite # and well you guys know what Dig Deep is for me. The CJK with angel wings is my mother-in-law that passed from cancer. She will be "running with us" now....

Did you make the skirt? If so do you have directions? That is soooo cute!!!!
I like everything about your outfit.

This girl had Elvis Stitch! I wonder if they swap the characters out and only have one Elvis costume...

I know they did switch characters out along the gold course on the back half of the race, so it's very possibly they did that as well with stitch. When I ran past Cinderella's carriage, she wasn't there, but I'd seen pictures of people with her. They were also taking Goofy back and had just brought Donald out on the golf course.

So I guess part of it will be timing.

This is our first any marathon - and we are staying off property at THE SHERATON SAFARI -(anyone else?) - We are worried about getting to the race on time etc - so thought it might be easier to get dropped off at POFQ and walk with those of you who will be doing that....I am assuming you do not have to ck in race morning - if you have gotten your race packet at the Expo correct? Also wondering what time you will be meeting to start the walk over and exactly where? thanks so much - we are beyond excited and would love to meet up with some of you!

No worries- they will move you up! You will probably end up in B with that time. Maybe C, but not H! :)

I LOVE the C9 Sports Bras from Target. They are all I wear.

I am in the same boat. I have a 1:06 10K that I submitted too late so I will be taking it with me to the Expo.

mama3princess- I wish I could make the skirt! I sew on buttons that's about it!

I got it at Spencer Gifts, not sure if that is just a west coast store, but needless to say it is errrr, half Justin Bieber posters/gag gifts and the other half is Playboy costumes.....:confused3 Since it's Valentines day they have all their "cute" tutus and "outfits" out. So yes, a wee bit sleezy, but I thought it was so darn cute!!! When I bought it the gal at the register said "maam there's no returns on your lingerie". haha!

No experience with chear squad.
Have you been to WDW? It is much more spread out...miles apart between parks, but has a great bus system and a good bus system for the event. When do you arrive? Will you have time to scope out locations? HOw fast are you walking/running? Maybe another "wisher" has family going to watch and running/walking your speed and she can pal around with them? She sounds able enough to do that. Depending on how fast you are she could see you in a couple of spots. Main Street at MK is a fun spot to see loved ones and it doesn't cost anything to get in early..no ticket, they just let people in and later make them leave...not sure what time. The monorail system is good for this....but you have to change monorails. One from Epcot to the TTC and the from the TTC to MK. Very doable if you are a 10 min. miler or greater. she can still get back to the finish. Wish I could help out more so hard to explain it all...

PS. I grew up in N. CA. So DL is my home park. Ran the DL half in 2010...had never seen CA adventure..used to be a parking lot..WOW

Thanks Joan! I know you're trying your best to explain and I'm getting it.

Lucky for her I am slow, have ITBS and actually want to enjoy the race - so she has plenty of time. I told her she needs to be at the finish area 2 hours & 45 min after I text her that I started. That still leaves me with a cushion since my best time in training has been 3:08. I am hoping there will be no knee issues. *fingers crossed*

I just think the Bronze ChEAR Package sounds like it wouldn't hurt. It IS 50 bucks, but she will have a designated area to hang out in, she'll get a tee and blanket. She has been so proud of me and I really am grateful that she's willing to drag herself out of bed to see me finish - so maybe I'll just do it for the goodies.

P.S It's been 20 years since I've been to WDW. I went there for grad nite back in 1992. (totally dating myself) ;) ) I remember all the transportation involved and I am freaking out about spending time waiting. I really hope I can find a cheap rental car!

Walking from POFQ or POR to the start:

Getting to the starting corrals is simple and quick, as I've noted before. It is true that if you do this there is no bag check possible. You leave your room at POR or POFQ and travel light. If you take anything to the corrals that you don't want with you on the course, then you must drop it in the piles of extra clothing and such before you take off. In January races when it was cold I did wear throw-away sweat tops and bottoms, and I threw them just before the start.

Thank you for this info. Great to know. I wonder if I may just end up walking. Anyone else at POR willing to walk early?

Thanks Joan. Do you know if there is a way to find out what roads will be closed and what time they will be closed?

I was hoping my mom would come to see me finish but my dad decided not to come. My plan was he could stay with the kids and Mom could come over for the finish. I'm so excited for this and no one around here (home) is. That's why I'm on here every second I can be! princess: Any time I mention plans or try to figure out a plan with DH he just tells me what he DOESN'T want to do while we are at Disney. All I want to discuss is race logistics. He's really supportive when I come back from a run and I tell him how far I went. But when I tell him I'm going out I get "(sigh) fine/alright". I feel like Im inconviencing him by going out. He comes and goes from here as he pleases between first aid calls and having to run back to work. but heaven forbid I go out for a run on a weekend afternoon. To me that's not really being supportive. At this point I don't even care if he's at the finish. I'm more excited to share in it with all of you gals here! Sorry for the vent. I know you all would understand.

I understand in that this is my daughter’s first time at WDW & I feel like I’m inconveniencing her by taking time away from rides and touring the parks with the Expo (takes soooooo long) and the race. She is really supportive now – I just hope not too bummed when we are there.

My boyfriend thought he had to travel to Atlanta for work that weekend, but now doesn’t have to. He REALLY wants to support me – but the only flight we can really afford will have him coming back to California the Saturday BEFORE the race! So he will come with us Wednesday – Saturday and then go home. I’m disappointed he won’t be there at the finish and I actually feel kind of bad he’s coming at all since a last minute flight from California to Florida during President’s week is not cheap.

I am here to support you for sure!

FlowersCroon, I'm in a similar situation. I am hiring a sitter for my 9-year-old, but the sitter service isn't allowed to take her off the resort property without another adult being present. If there was another family at POR/POFQ willing to walk/bus over to the finish line, we could have a caravan. Just a thought. My daughter has accepted that she may not be able to go to the finish line to see me. (NB: I'm a slowbee--3:15-3:20 finish time, corral E.)

Cate

Cate – that would be GREAT if we could find a family for the kids to caravan with. Maybe we should start a new post outside of this thread since it seems no one here has this issue?

We get there Friday, so we'll be well rested. I never feel the time difference traveling to the South. Heading back to the left coast will totally mess up my internal clock!

I do all of my long runs starting early in the morning. The only difference will be that it should be warmer and there will be a lot more people out and about than I usually see on my runs! I normally only scare up the odd cat, skunk, or deer, and they aren't much fun to talk with.

Derek

You crack me up – I can’t wait to meet you!

We are spoiled in California with our amazing weather. The idea of humidity in Corral F at 5:45am is making me claustrophobic already!

Thanks for the recommendations. The ones I have now are just the Hanes racerback over-your-head kind but I think they might ride up during a long race. I was shopping for new ones but notices a lot of the bras that "separate" have seams in the middle of the inside cup. I would think that's a recipe for a bloody, chafing disaster!!

No worries- they will move you up! You will probably end up in B with that time. Maybe C, but not H! :)

Thank you for the encouragement! My sister has a time of 2:22 from the WDW 1/2 in 2011. We will cross our fingers about being moved up! I want to have a good race!

best of luck to you too!

We got our skirts from here and they are super cute and lightweight! Good luck!

For the veterans here how fast does the course usually play. I didn't get too much of a good idea when I attempted the full last month because I was coming off of an illness that took me out of training for three weeks and was unable to finish but I am coming into this one strong, very strong. Hoping to shatter my old PR strong (which was set over a hilly course). So I am just curious how flat and or fast you guys would say the course is.

I would say it's pretty flat and fast.

However, if you are looking to do better than about 2:30/2:45 and are in corral C or higher (bib number of 4500+), and you have qualifying times of 2:45 or better, I would seriously print out your results and get your corral changed.

The further back you are, the more crowded it is, and there are a lot of walkers and run/walkers. It does get very narrow in places and you will be weaving a lot and not happy about it. People dress up and are there to take pics and have fun and such, as you get toward the middle to back.

It's central florida - you don't get much flatter than that. There are a few underpasses that some say are the "hills" but if you train anywhere that's hilly, you find them much of anything.

The further back you are, the more people tend to have fun with the race, so I would definitely bring proof of time to get you in the appropriate corral like others have said. When I ran it two years ago, I was bumped back to B so I could start with my dad. I was a little nervous, but it ended up being pretty open the whole race. There is such a huge range of pace in the front two corrals (corral is 2:10 or faster, and then B is 2:11-2:30 or something along those lines) that people end up being so spread out. I think the boys are now being bumped back to c nowadays, so c might end up being the same way too.

Also don't forget to keep the weather in mind, especially coming from a colder climate. If it ends up being 60+ at the start, you will most likely have to scale back your pace. A lot of the race is on highways, so there's a whole lot of shade.

My personal plan would be if the weather was good, race the heck out of the course and go for a PR. But if it was warm, I would probably just take pictures and have fun, since a PR wouldn't be happening anyways.

Good luck!

I see that the Pasta in the Park party is sold out.
But how about the race retreat?
Is it worth the price?
