Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I just found out that my husband is in corral A and I'm in C even though we registered as a team. He'll join me in C of course. We registered the day it opened so I wonder if that has anything to do with placement as well as time.

misskitkat - You both got first placement, but men can't be any farther up than corral C. That's why you are so far apart.

I don't know what corrals we have been assigned, but my wife's bib is 6058 and mine is 11475.

One more long run of 15 miles on Saturday, then a week to taper before the big day!

Derek

I caved and emailed to find out what corral I'm in. I found out that I am in G. My bib number is 14393. I still have a corral behind me so I will have a little bit of a buffer between me and the sweepers.

Julie.....you are gonna do great!

I like the I did it shirts too! And thinking the blue is the tech shirt we get, it looks nice - white shirts get so dingy, must be the sweat!

I am getting excited.....despite that I haven't run since last Thursday when I did my 10.28.....my feel and calves have been tight....so resting til Thursday. I just want to finish! Feet and legs don't fail me now!

You are too funny! Corral Z! :rotfl2:

I am by no means an expert on IT band syndrome but I did deal with it with the help of a PT back in December. I felt the same way, I would never be able to participate. Once you get ITBS you know that it brings you to dead stop when running. It took me about 3 weeks to really get my symptoms under control. meaning, I was back to a run/walk.

My program was: FOAM ROLLER!! This thing is a life saver. I can't go even a few days without it now. You MUST do it at least every other day to keep the knots away. Don't stop it or else it will come back. Even though mine is large, I have added it to my packing list. There is no way I can go without it.

Ice. I am a wimp with ice so I did it once a day for 10 min. twice a day is better.

Hip abduction exercise: Side lying leg lifts keeping toes pointed to wall in front of you. Not toward ceiling at all.

Piriformis stretch: not sure how to describe this but my ITBS is related to Piriformis syndrome. Not sure if you would have this too but look up a stretch online. Basically you pull your affected side into hip flexion with knee bent. then pull leg toward center of body.

Sit ups. ITBS is related to a weak core and hip muscles. I added sit ups to my program for overall core strenthening.

I would definately try to see a PT for at least one or two visits before you leave. They work wonders. The good thing about my ITBS is that was not affected by walking. That is really one of the signs of ITBS. Walking should not bother you.

My hip is worse if anything. Now seeking help of an MD. Hopefully not a stress fx like I fear. At least I'll be able to walk it.

My question for all experienced runners. I am thinking I am in corral C with number 7677. For my healthy body, this would have been perfect. Now that I have stopped training and basically hoping to walk it (best case scenario, break into a run here or there), how should I approach the corral? Shuffle myself to the back? I do not want to interfere with the other runners start.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, AMY, FOR YOUR REPLY!

I was sad when I posted that. I'm coming all the way from California to run my first race and be 1/2 way to the Coast to Coast medal, so I was really bummed when I realized I had ITBS. Your tips and encouragement meant a lot.

I bought a foam roller last night and used it. WOW! How did I, as a complete beginner runner, not know about that before?!

I know a PT so I was able to bypass all the HMO red tape and go directly to him for PT today at lunch. He got me into the Orthopedic Dr.'s office and I now have meds for the swelling, insoles for my shoes, PT and a follow up appointment scheduled. He said 19 days is plenty of time to get me back on track. I'm happy again.

And that's the report from CORRAL Z! Hopefully you girls will stop by and say hi to me in Siberia!

Thanks, again Amy. Happy you are on this thread!!!

Amy, slow your pace and you'll be fine. ITBS flares with over use, so keep it slow, steady and easy.

Great to see another NorCal runner is going to be there! We'll be at DL for the half to complete the coast-to-coast, later this year.

Derek

I am staying with friends and what's the closest to the race start I can get dropped off at? They are coming back later with a group and don't want to do the parking at 4am.

Can anyone help out on this? Thanks!!

I am doing the same thing Derek! Princess Half for the FL portion and Disneyland Half for the CA portion. So exciting to see another Nor Cal person on here!

Love the race shirts. I do hope the blue tech shirt is what they give us....it is super cute. The expo will be tons of fun and we will all need wallets filled with cash or cards!
Did my next to last long run today on the treadmill in a hotel gym that was probably 90 degrees. I finally figured out how to set the AC for my last 3 miles. :thumbsup2. Glad that one is over and hope others are winding down their training,
Pam

The closest drop off would be in the parking lot, but it will be a line to get in the parking lot unless you get there really early.

OK ladies, got another email, and I really am in Corral B :woohoo: YAY!!

Loving the merchandise!! I'm holding out hope that there will still be a Dooney left by the time I arrive Friday afternoon! I hope I hope I hope!!! They are too stinkin cute!!!!

I'm so excited I'm about to bust!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Has anyone ever walked from Port Orleans French Quarter to the start corrals?

From looking at a map, it should be possible...and less walking than from the parking lot/staging area.

20379 and 20380: Corral B
8701: Corral D

We gave our friend the race registration as a birthday gift, so her registration just went through last week or so. She is actually a faster runner than us-- what would she need to be able to move up to Corral B with us? I think her more recent races are all 5Ks, and she has done a Half before, but I think it's been a while. (Do they have to be races with official times? Active.com has a lot of "self-timed" events where you submit your time but get a bib number, t-shirt, etc.)

Otherwise, how long apart do B and D start? I was thinking maybe she could catch up to us in the first 3 miles or so. (Would there be a way for her to at least get up to C? Then we could just start in the back of B.) We worked really hard to get a 10K time for the B Corral, so I really don't want to drop back to D.

Oh I love the dark blue tech shirt. I hope you are right and that's the one we get. Otherwise, I'll have to make that purchase.

Tragedy has struck my costume making! Okay, not really, but it is mildly annoying. I decided to use fabric glue to attach my sparkly collar to my running shirt. Didn't realize it would stain and it seeped through to the back side. Yeah, I'm not very crafty and didn't think about this. Any ideas on how to get rid of fabric glue stains on parts that aren't attaching any fabric?

Hello DIS-OH

My wife and I have walked from POFQ to the starting corrals for many January marathons and half marathons. You go out the lobby of the resort and veer left, going out past the guard booth. You'll hit the road and turn left. Be careful here as there is no sidewalk, but at that hour there is very little traffic. Walk a short distance and there is a bridge to the right over the canal. Take this bridge and the corrals are right in front of you. When you walk out of POFQ you can hear the music and see the lights of the starting areas; you cannot miss it.

This can be walked in 10 minutes and is infinitely easier and quicker than taking transportation to the EPCOT parking lot staging areas and then walking a mile or so to the corrals. I suspect the Disney folks would prefer everyone took the busses and long hike, but this is effortless.

Good luck on the 26th.

Thanks, Calcio.

We thought it looked possible and am glad to have it confirmed!

I believe per the race materials there are 6 minutes between the start of each corral. SO, you would have 12 minutes on her at best.

I never thought about walking but...hmmmmmmm, maybe it's an option. I mapped it on my iPad and it looks like this

Or I can just walk to POFQ and catch the bus from there, LOL.
