Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I'm 5191 :)

I just had a really strange interaction at a local running store that really rubbed me in the wrong way. I realized last week that I don't think I'll be able to wait until after the Princess to get new shoes. I'm wearing down the inside heels a lot more than I ever thought!

That being said, I went to see if I could get fitted to see what kind of shoes might help this problem. As I walked into the store, I felt like I was interrupting the employee's conversation with someone else. She came over to me and gave me a "once-over". I felt really uncomfortable. I said I was just looking around and asked if I could get fitted, and she responded "when you're ready to buy, we'll fit you". Running shoes are expensive, at least for me they are. I want to be able to think about the options instead of buying on the spot! Needless to say...I need to find another running store. :(

How Rude! I love how some retail people think they are better than everyone. Nothing wrong with working retail, but no one needs an attitude!

Anyone doing the family 5k run, the kids races and the princess half-marathon run? Is this overkill? :rotfl:

My kids are signed up for the kids races and I have three of them. I know I am going to have to run with my oldest for the mile race. That being said, I am also thinking of doing the 5k, but I am also afraid of doing to much. I think I am going to wait until I get there and see how I feel to decide.

Whoa. I have been off for a few days and I can't even process what I want to say first!! Love all the pics being posted. Especially the DC ones. I am definately going to look into the runkeeper page. Is there an app? Can't wait to see what Stitchfan comes up with for the Princess. Your outfits are great!

Thanks to the Disney stalkers (like all of us aren't!:confused3). I got my bib number: 7677. As I have said in the past, this is my first race of any sort, so I submitted an estimated time of 2:46. I'm thinking from the posts from experienced princesses that puts me in C or D. I'm hoping I can keep up!!

Running has been sidelined now for about 2 weeks. And, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get back into it full out. Started with ill DD, then, hip pain (similar to TinkerAMy) and yesterday I got a stomach bug. UGH! Thanks to all of the cheerleaders supporting those of us whose training has been hitting a lot of bumps in the road. I am trying to stay positive and remember I was in this initially just to finish. I think I can walk the whole thing if need be as I am a very fast walker. I would prefer to run the first 5-6 without walk breaks but my body will not likely allow that!

Funny story, last time I was out on the road feeling good about my pace, form, etc, I saw a local runner approaching me from behind. I know he is a marathoner and I know he is in his late 70s! Well, he passed me like I was standing still! And, being that i know where he lives, he was on the tail end of his run. Boy did I feel like a real loser! I guess the only good thing about that is that I have about 40 years to train and build up to his pace at his age!

I'm doing the 5K and the 1/2. I actually just signed up for the 5k a couple of days ago. DD#1 will be running her first 5K (with grandma) so I decided to join them so I can get good pics of her with the characters. :thumbsup2

 I'm sorry that is just awful. I hope you have more choices in running stores so that you will not give them any more of your business.

11904 hopefully I have a few coralls in back so that I have some time to take pics otherwise I'll be pretty bummed :(

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to this thread and was hoping for some advice. Last fall my friend and I briefly considered entering the Princess Half, but I had a trip to Hawaii booked that weekend so that put an end to our plans. However, yesterday my trip to Hawaii was cancelled and I will be in town for the Princess after all. I'm considering entering the Half (if there's still spots!) for the fun of it, since I obviously haven't been training for it. I'm not much of a runner with my asthma, but I think I could easily walk 15min miles for the majority of the race. My main concern is that I would be placed in one of the very last corrals. Would I constantly be running the risk of being swept even if I stay under the 16min mile requirement? I would hate to be swept after spending $150 :(

Personally the first thing I'd do is do a test of atleast 2-3 mile walk/run to see what times you are currently hitting/endurance level..

I've never started in a back corral so dont know the sweeper/time game..

I registered for the WDW 1/2 less than a month out and ended up in Corral C (est finish of 2:40 but I was coming off other 1/2 so didn't have much training to get in..

Good Luck!

For those of you who did the Tink what are your training plans? I have not ran again yet. I had very sore calves Monday and Tuesday and am almost back to normal today. I plan to do a short (2 to 3 miles) on Sat and then get back into my training plan. Two 45 minute weekday runs with a long run on Sat. I am thinking 10 next Sat and then 5 or 6 the week after and that would bring me up to the Princess. I was originally planning on doing 13 next week, but I wasn't planning on being as sore as I was.

I am following the Galloway plan that is posted on Run Disney. He included the Tink as part of the preparation for the Princess. He calls for a 14 mile session next week, but I don't think that's going to happen!! I am just trying to get my shorter runs in and then a somewhat long one sometime during the week. I figure that the thought of that coast to coast medal will keep us going!

We teams with bib numbers 21522 and 21518 other team is 21489 and 21488. Since I registered all of us at the same time some other snuck in between my team with DD#3 and the team with DD's 1 and 2 . LOL

So Princess Tiana got thrown out the window while I was at Target today. I was looking in the girls section for some tutuish skirts, really wanting to find a white or pale yellow to go under my green team sparkle skirt for my Tiana outfit. I didn't find white or yellow, but I hit the tutu jackpot on their valentines day rack. They had black, purple, red, and hot pink tutu skirts! I got a red and pink one so I could try a few different outfit combos at home. (I'm going to return the pink,) and they were only $12.99 each! Thanks to Target the snow white costume that never came together before marathon weekend is now a reality!
Now the pictures... Please ignore my cheesy smiles. I wasn't sure what the proper smiling etiquette was when taking mirror pictures of an outfit :rotfl:

Back view - I haven't sewn on the collar or cape yet, so I'll probably shorten the cape a little when I do that.

Side view - the skirt is pretty full, but it's hard to tell in the picture.

Here's a better view of the whole outfit without me wearing it.

For anyone interested, here are the two tutu skirts I bought at target. The red one (on top) is a large, and the pink is an X-large. Both fit me pretty well in the waist because the silver band at the top is super stretchy. I wear a 10-12 in pants to give you an idea. The X-large is a little longer than the large.

I'm so excited that this outfit came together for the princess! I was bummed that I couldn't pull it off for marathon weekend, but I'm glad I kept the cape fabric, and blue shirt! My only problem now is to try decide what kind of compression socks or sleeves to wear with this outfit. I have a rainbow of colors, but no red or yellow. I'm thinking white or black to keep it simple, or I might have to look at the expo for some socks that match....

My bib # is 7345. What do y'all think corral C or D? It seems so real now that I got really nervous!

My mom and I are doing the 5k on Sat., but we will be taking it easy.

I love all the costumes! I'm going for a Rapunzel look, but nothing elaborate. Just a white shirt and purple sparkle skirt. I may try to find a pink tutu at Target to go underneath.

Stitch your Snow White costume is perfect!

Merci

It could be either. If they keep with the same scheme as last year (corrals in numbered order), you are certainly no more than D though.

I checked from last year, my bib was in the 5400s and I was in C. My friend was in the 7000s and she was also C.

I posted this in the other thread, but my PR is 2:44 and I put in an estimated finish time of 2:35, and my bib is 5090 and likely C.

Thank you for the advice! I hit the gym most days of the week and do 2-3 miles with hill intervals. I did 2.8 mile flat course today averaging a 14.12 min/mile pace with a few jogging intervals added in. I did push myself so I don't think I could keep up the 14min/mi all 13 miles without a longer trianing period...but 15min/mi seems pretty reasonable. At least I hope :)

Luckily there a few around me, but they don't have as much of a selection in shoes as they are all small businesses and probably charge similar prices. I've been spending so much on my costume I wasn't paying attention to my feet! :lmao:

That looks great! What part of the store was the V-day rack?
