Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I am a guy also running it. When I signed up I looked at last year results and there about 600 that finished it. A friend of mine said there were several running it. I also looked at youtube videos and every once in a while I would see the stay guy in there running it too. My wife is trying to get me to wear a tutu or tiara for the race. Haven't decided, but it was mainly about how comfortable would I feel with it on while running as compared to how I would look. LOL

At least you're considering it. I offered to make my husband a shirt and put a tiara on the shirt and he said no. I also had to tell him that he has to stay with me since we're a team. He runs an 8mm and is questioning why he can't just go off by himself. I'm going to kill him, lol.

X-rays are clean but I have an ortho appointment tomorrow and DH won't let me run until I'm cleared by them. I'm still a little stiff and slightly creaky but getting better everyday so fingers crossed!

24 days!!!!!

My group finished in 3:33 last year and we started in corral C, had a bathroom stop, and about 4-5 pic stops. Never saw a sweeper. Sorry for the corral police, but we all qualified for that corral, just nursing injuries. :)

This year will be no different... I swear I think just the thought of the Princess makes my left lower leg seize up every Nov/Dec.

My family made me a shirt and were going to put something Princess thing on it but instead the kids did hand prints and did there favorite Disney Characters out of the fingers. Hope you will get cleared to run.

I had some type of sinus infection last week and now have this awful stomach bug this week, I am TOTALLY freaking out!!! I haven't ran since Sat my 12 miles and before that was Tuesday. Which means its been a total of 2 times this last 2 weeks and we only have 3 more weeks to go!! I am very weak from throwing up and probably couldn't make it around the block right now. Has this happened to anyone else? Tell me I'll be good come 3 weeks if I don't get another long run in before race day?

What is your normal time? I finished Tink in 2:36 and I am planning on taking it easy for the Princess and take some pics. I am hoping with almost an hour to spare I will be okay to do that and still get an official time for my C2C.
That 2:36 did include 1 potty break and I did stop and take 1 mile marker pic at mile 7. Other then that I took pics on the move.
I don't plan on stopping at every character on the way, but I do plan to stop if someone catches my eye.

Hoping everything looks good. We are so close now, take it easy.

Last year my last long run was early January 10.5 then I had plantar faciitis which kept me from basically training. I def could not do long runs while I tried to let my foot heal. I fininished fine and most of the race my pace was the same as when I was training....I think somehow the body remembers. Just rest up and get better

---------------

I got my long run in today 10.28. VERY Excited that its done as no more long runs till the race. I have been worried about my PF flaring back up and my tendinitis, but so far so good. It was a gorgeous day out and felt great, one of the best runs I have had in a while. A twinge of pain here and there, nothing bad...though in mile 8, my 2 toes next to the big toe on my PF Tendinitis side were tight....weird...I just focused on my Chi form and it seemed to help.

If only I could score some good last minute airfare deal......I seem to miss them when they are out and well, while its driveable, I would rather fly!

Really getting excited about the race.

if your husband is a good deal faster than you, he could always run his own race and then backtrack and meet you at mile 11 or something inside of epcot and run you in (and just not cross the finish line again.) if it's good weather, the course can be pretty flat and fast up front and definitely PRable if he has been training hard and that's what he's after. and, i suppose a good race help makes all the girliness easier to swallow for all those macho men :lmao:just a thought...

hope you get back to the road soon!

For those of you who did the Tink what are your training plans? I have not ran again yet. I had very sore calves Monday and Tuesday and am almost back to normal today. I plan to do a short (2 to 3 miles) on Sat and then get back into my training plan. Two 45 minute weekday runs with a long run on Sat. I am thinking 10 next Sat and then 5 or 6 the week after and that would bring me up to the Princess. I was originally planning on doing 13 next week, but I wasn't planning on being as sore as I was.

SaySay - cute outfit! Thanks for sharing!

PRmamiDEdos - sending good vibes your way for a positive Ortho appt!

Dagny - that's great you're doing the bracelets, if I didn't have to defer I'd want one for sure! :wizard:

Today was my 2nd day back to work after being on Short Term Disability from my multiple stress fractures. I was asleep in bed last night at 830, and exhausted today! Was thinking about taking a pic of me in my pjs on the couch with some Ben & Jerrys and sharing it!! :happytv:

Everyone's endurance and positive spirit here are awesome. I am so excited to go on a family vacation in 3 weeks, but am also excited to cheer you all on. :cheer2: If I were running, my sleepless nights would have started already due to anticipation!

I've updated the W.I.S.H. MEET on the Events Thread. There is a tie for POR and GF. Please share your feedback so we can determine a location! Thanks!!

Got in 5 miles today and felt ok. I've been having some back problems (I think because of the bed I'm on right now) and I didn't realize just how much they affected me until today and my run a few days ago. Luckily, with yoga and a bed change coming soon, it shouldn't be an issue for the Princess!

I'm in the same boat as you, been fighting what I thought was a cold, found out last night it is indeed a sinus infection and got started on the Z-pack. I have gotten a few very small runs in the last couple weeks, I'm also hoping I will be OK for race day!!

Let's hope we all feel better soon

Stated a zpak yesterday. strep was negative, but dr. is running a more precise test as last year I was very ill. Had strep last year at this time, but never had a sore throat and figured it was a virus. So she wants me to do the zpak now.

My feeling is if you have been training regularly then the Princess event should be fine. Maybe not your best, but still fun. I got a 10 miler in last year on Feb7 and was due to do 12 on the 14th. Well, on the 8th I got sick and sicker and by Feb 13 was in bed (really thought I won't live to see the next day) but did and DH took me to dr. and thought it was a virus. I ran a 4 and 5 miler the week of race and then got to Florida and was throwing up again on Saturday. Got up Sunday ran okay, but a week later I was still on the couch sleeping and losing weight trying to "recover". It took a lot of blood testing to figure out I had a strep infection in my body and with antibiotic all got better.

I guess what I'm saying is if you have been faithful to your training you should be fine, but take care of yourself now. Missing a few runs now in order to get healthy is more important.

Well, after a few days out of town for work, I've finally made my way through the posts I missed! Great job with the training everyone! We've just got to stay healthy and uninjured!

I was in DC for work, and I did my 12 miles around the mall and monuments in DC. It was a gorgeous day and I got about 25 photos along the way, which I posted on runkeeper: http://runkeeper.com/user/mamacate/activity/68541662 Fun!

When I did 11 miles 2 weeks ago, I was HURTING for the 10th mile (the 11th was easier because I knew I was almost done). It was super cold (15F) and I was underdressed, but it still worried me. At 12 miles, I was tired but could easily have done another 1.1. Felt good to know. Now I have to make sure the tweaky feeling in my knee after long runs doesn't turn into anything worse!

Dagny, congrats on the C2C, and I'd love a bracelet.
SaySay, you're super-cute in your Mulan outfit! My coworkers and I had a long conversation about feminist princesses, and we all agreed Mulan won. (Hilarious analysis, though it's a bit political: http://www.quora.com/Which-Disney-Princess-best-embodies-feminist-principles-and-why)

For my outfit, I got a great gold Sparkle Lite skirt, and I'm also planning to wear a bunch of glow bracelets for the early start in the dark. I'm not sure what color top to wear with it. Something to think about! I decided I don't have the time or energy to do anything that will require sewing.

Happy training all! I have an easy week this week, and then 14 miles the next week. I will probably do less than 14, though, because I think I'm at more risk of injuring myself than of being undertrained at this point.

So here's the thing. All this race outfit talk had me looking for a shirt to match my gold skirt. Not finding much. I realized that the thing that will go best with that skirt is the race shirt! I know it's lame to wear the race shirt to the race itself...but I'm thinking about it. Opinions???

Anyone know what they serve? (Is there a way to get a free sample to try, maybe at the Expo?)

The past two races they have served these gels. Wal-mart and Target sell them, so you can get a sample to try, which I definitely would do. Also make sure to drink plenty of water with them or they can do odd things to your belly.

Skittles are another alternative.

I think you'll be fine. I got a stress fracture from shin splints before the Wine and Dine and had to stop training and just rest for a few weeks just before race time, but I still got a new PR, so I was happy. Listen to your body and don't overdo it, so you'll be ready to run.

I saw oodles of people (that probably translates into at least 100 people) wearing the race shirts in the WDW Half Marathon and the Wine & Dine Halloween 5K at Animal Kingdom. If you do wear your race shirt with the gold skirt, you definitely won't be alone in that. :)

So I had my first race dream last night. Dreamt I got to the race and had forgotten all of my running gear.

Dagny,

Please put me on the list for the Princess bracelet. I love my green one that you gave me in January.

Looking forward to seeing everyone later this month!

I had one the other night where I had made it to the finish and then realized I had not stopped for one picture or paid any attention to the course entertainment and I was so disappointed. It was like it had not even happened!

I want to be sure I soak in the entire experience!
