Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Hey ladies!

Hope everyone is doing well. Just got back from Disneyland, earned by C2C medal and soooo looking forward to the Princess! That was my third half and I am getting addicted to them :scared1:

Do we have any DIS Meets set up yet?

Also, I will making some WISH bracelets for the race so I would like a count of who would like one? They are my treat.... I will probably put the order in next week so feel free to respond here or PM me. I have done them for the last two Disney races in lime green but for the Princess, I am thinking something more pink :lovestruc

Congrats on the C2C!

I'd love a bracelet as well!

I wonder how many guys on here besides me are running this race. I talked mg DW into running it. It will be her first. Got some Pink arm warmers to wear. I have a feeling there won't be that many guys. Corral question for those that might know, for the Disney Half I started in A. Will they allow guys to start towards the front? Good luck to all those training for this race. It's just a huge achievement mentally to get this far.

I am a guy also running it. When I signed up I looked at last year results and there about 600 that finished it. A friend of mine said there were several running it. I also looked at youtube videos and every once in a while I would see the stay guy in there running it too. My wife is trying to get me to wear a tutu or tiara for the race. Haven't decided, but it was mainly about how comfortable would I feel with it on while running as compared to how I would look. LOL

Congrats on your two races already and your coast to coast medal. There are worse things to be addicted to. :)

My wife, along with her two sisters, will be running the half and I have been helping along with various details. Following the race they will be heading off to the port to take in a 4 day cruise on the Disney Dream. So some questions around that. From what I have searched in this thread and others, it doesn't sound like there are many others (if any) doing the same thing.

They are in the last corral and so I believe that means a 6:30 start time, right? Counting on about a 3hr race time, what can be expected in terms of getting back to their resort (POR) via the bus system?

Need to arrange private car transport to the port and so wanting to figure out the pickup time at the resort. They don't mind hanging out for a bit at the race, cooling down, having some food, but then moving on to shower and clean up and then head for the great reward of food and fun on the ship. They don't want to be rushed, but the goal is to get to the ship sooner than later. For those who have stayed at POR in the past, what is realistic for timing?

Thanks in advance for any input or advice that any of you can offer.

Last year I started in corral D, so third from the back. We took off about 6:20. I had a finish time of 2:57 but hung around and waited for some friends who started ahead of me but were walking it to finish. The later in the field they finish the longer the lines for the bus will be. I lucked out because we had a pretty long line but they were loading 2 buses at once so my wait for the bus wasn't too long, maybe 10 to 15 minutes.

Depending on where their room is located they could be on the bus for awhile too. Again I was lucky and my stop was the first one. I want to say I was back in the room by 10:30 or so and hitting the parks before noon.

I just got back from the Tinker Bell on Monday and now I am switching from Tink to Princess mode so I thought I should hop back on this thread. :flower3: I must be honest though, I missed probably more then half of the last thread and I haven't read through this thread yet either so I am just jumping in where I am. :upsidedow

I have my costume planned but I haven't made it yet. I really need to get on it.

Dagny,
I loved the green Tinkerbell WISH band. Thanks so much for giving it to me.
I wore it all the way home on Monday, along with my medal.

I would love to get a pink Princess one from you as well. Please put me on the list.

I'll be getting my Coast to Coast medal at Princess (2nd year in a row)!
Can't wait!!!

Hi everyone, I still can't believe how close the race is now! I'm allowed to run now and hope to get 12 miles in this Saturday. I'm also trying to finish my costume, I will be some form of Cinderella :)

I'm looking at the skirts from Team Sparkle and SparkleSkirts. I read on the website the that SparkleSkirts have pockets which would be great for me to put my Clif Shots because I don't run with a belt. I'd love your opinion on skirts, do you like the Team Sparkle skirts or the SparkleSkirts better?

Dagny,

Congratulations on your C to C. Isn't the medal gorgeous? I was so excited to get mine last September. I will be running the princess and would love one of your bracelets. However, I may not be able to make the meetup. Will you be at the expo on Friday? I am going to PM you.
Happy running, Pam

I have both and I love the sparkle skirts the best. They're a bit longer then the team sparkle ones (about 2 inches). The pocket I believe is only in the sparkle tech skirts (unless Leah's changed the design) and the material is a bit thicker. It's a full round skirt, vs. team sparkle's drop waist (so if you're a bit hippy like myself the sparkle skirt might work better for you). Of course, I wear both! I'm wearing my red team sparkle on the 10th for VA is for Lovers 14k. My minnie sparkle tech will be coming along with for the Princess :)

I have a sparkle light and it has a pocket, but not a zippered pocket. It's in the back, about the size of a cell phone.

Wow, I know this is going to sound naive but what is team sparkle?

It is a company that makes race skirts....not technical skirts, but sparkly skirts you wear over shorts, capris, pants, skirts, etc. Kind of gives you a little flashy look. I have a red one on in that picture of my mulan idea which I think is on previous page. Team Sparkle is the company, you can google and see their skirts. The skirt style is drop waste yolk if that makes any sense. ;-) The Team Sparkle website's blog has some great ideas for disney and other themed race attire with their skirts.

Sparkle Skirts makes both technical skirts with built in shorts AND the wear over your shorts sheer sparkly skirts. The technical skirts are longer and have build in shorts and a pocket. They also make a sparkly cover skirt - no shorts built in and no pocket - which is a fuller A-line style and I THINK per the description on the website it is the same length as the Team Sparkle. The technical skirt is thicker material, not see through and longer than the sparkly ones.

I wore Yellow Team Sparkle last year and this year will wear a red one, they are cheaper is why I went with them. I might get a technical Sparkle Skirts skirt at the Expo since people rave about them.

This is more info than you probably wanted to know, but there you go. Both will probably be at the princess expo. Personally, I think its fun wearing a little sparkle if you aren't going to win.

Thanks for all the info. I love your Mulan (nice and original.)

I already have my whole outfit put together (I decided on Rapunzel because I already had a lot of stuff for it and it's somewhat simplistic in terms of easy to run in) and I have a comfy tutu to wear over my capris. Does anyone wear Dis gear of some sort while there? Just curious. I haven't been frequenting here much for awhile but I'd like to be able to say hi to some Disers if I were to ever meet them (finally.) ;)

I will probably be wearing my DIS Princess BondiBand! :thumbsup2

Congrats on C2C! I'm hoping to work it into next year's budget.

My husband will be one of the princes out there! It seems like the field of men has doubled each year... I want to say last year there were 800 guys? Still a small field compared to the princesses, but you won't be alone!

I ran the 13/1 miles a few weeks ago just for the heck of it since I haven't had much time to train and I was able to do it in 3hrs 10 min. That was with me crawling during miles 12 & 13 and walking during miles 7 & 11. I think if I get in some more training (and less time at work) I can speed things up a bit...

I think with a time of 3:10, you are TOTALLY fine... I doubt you'll even see the pace/sweep team. My very first Disney half, in 2006, I was in the last corral and finished in 3:10 and never ever saw the pacers, and was surrounded by tons of folks. At last year's Wine and Dine, I was in the last corral, and was racing the pacers the whole way... constantly ahead of them, but back far enough that I'd be passing them and getting the "Your 3 minutes above the pace, etc" warnings. I finished that one in 3:32. Unless you are in that window of 15:30 - 16, I don't think you have much to worry about. Except for remembering that photo stops take time, and to be mindful of it. You're going to do great!
