Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I'm really upset that Disney doesn't have enough pins to let each registered runner purchase 2. You DO have to be a registered runner in order to buy them right? If not, that's poor practice on Disney's part. They should be offered to runners first. I just purchased the necklace so I at least wouldn't miss out on that. When I signed up for the race 2 weeks ago, it was already costing me $350 so I stupidly decided to wait on the pins. :sad1:

I am also disappointed about the pins. I ran the Chip and Dale relay earlier this month and they did not have a pin for the relay runners....we could either pick the marathon pin with Mickey or the Donald pin for the half marathon, neither were appropriate. I ended up buying a generic C & D pin that is cute. However, the race pins are really nice and they should have enough for everyone to buy at least one.
Happy running,
Pam

I am running a crazy run around here in a bit called the Chilly Chili around a local lake. It snowed last night so wish me luck that I don't slip and injure myself. I'm borrowing some YakTrax.

Possibly slacking today - big thunderstorms predicted. I COULD have gotten out a little bit ago, but didn't want to get 2 miles out and caught in ugliness. At least, that's my excuse;). I did 10 miles last weekend so this weekend was just a scheduled 4 - a lot easier to squeeze in somewhere tomorrow and not be too taxed for a regular run on Monday.

Talked with a friend yesterday who clearly is not one of "our kind" - she seems mystified that 2 adult women would want to go and spend time in the parks. "You mean, you two are going to go out and ride the rides?" Um, yeah! That's what Disney World is all about, Charlie Brown! I mean, you don't have to love rollercoasters to go and have a great time at Disney World.

T-storms are nothing to mess with!!

Definitely not one of "our kind"!! I SO know what you mean. My husband and I are in our late 30s/early 40s and child-free, and we are DVC members/AP holders and go to WDW at least 2-3 times a year. Also, we each plan a girls/boys trip with friends - he is going next weekend, and I am going for the Princess weekend. People are generally mystified at all of this.

I'm trying to catch up on all the posts. I haven't been on all week.
Lauren, congrats! Every pregnancy is different, so I wouldn't worry too much about not having symptoms. I did have morning sickness and incredible cravings with DD but not DS's, though. ;)
My right knee has been bothering me since my 11 mile run on Dec. 28th. It's slowly improving and almost back to normal, but I'm worried how it's going to be after the half.
Does anyone know if there's a cut-off date to buy the discounted park tickets? Unexpected car repair has put us behind schedule.

<<<<Another person upset about pin. I bought necklace too hoping I would like it. I am also a pin collector so I didn't just want this because it was a race I was going to be in, I want it because it is THE first darn race I am going to have ever been in! Annoying :*( Should totally be offered to runners first and should be enough made for @2 per runner. Going to write an email to make a stink.

I've been researching the cw-x running tights all morning, reading reviews, checking prices and finally decided to get a pair of the running tights. Shoebuydotcom is having a winter sale so with the code blowout, I got 20% off the Cw-X PerformX tights. I figured $60 wasn't bad after looking all day and not finding anything under 80. I'll give a long run review as soon as I get them! I'm excited.

My costume will be nothing to brag about. Just the fore mentioned tights, a red tutu (bought it for Halloween and never used it) and a black running tank with my black running sneakers. I'm trying to find a way to crochet a crown (I'll use wire) and attach it to my ponytail. Since I need my glasses, I'll be using my prescription sunglasses. What's the best way to keep them from slipping off?

After my knee trouble after my 11 mile long run, I'm really intrigued by these. I'll be anxiously awaiting your review. I'm pretty budget conscious, so these would be a huge investment for me. Right now, I'm running in $10 Danskin tights.

Now...on to a clothing question. I've been getting achy knees and am wondering whether those CW-X Stabilyx tights are worth the price? Has anyone ever used them? Do they really keep your muscles from getting fatigued? And do they hold your knees like they say they do? I've seen regular compression tights in the stores and bought a $20 pair from JC Penny but they don't seem like "miracle" tights to me. They don't seem to fit as tight as they should. I found some no-name tights on eBay from South Korea but don't know if I can trust those either. Any input on these types of running tights?

Well there is no such thing as "miracle" or "magic" anything. If you are having knee issues it's likely a combination of training errors, gait, or footwear. It's not like once you put on the tights, all of your issues are magically solved.

That being said, I have two pairs of the cw-x tights and they do feel good! I like to wear them on my long runs as much as I can. But it would serve you well long term to get to the root of the problem of why your knees are aching

PR, I would also recommend Epsom Salt baths. They really help with soreness.

I tend to differentiate, this is kinda sore, from this hurts. If it's acute pain or lasts longer than a day or two, get it checked out. If it's a muscle sore like you would get from lifting weights, it could just be your body getting used to the impact. Take a day off and see how it feels the day after.

I think a lot of my knee issues stem from doing long jumps on my high school track team. There were times when it rained and the sand wasn't raked properly and it was a little hard. Plus I had a coach that thought I would be good in that activity and didn't give me a whole lot of training, just told me to jump and try and land with my legs out :headache:.

Add this to being short (4'9") and carrying two decent sized kids (7.8 and 8.1) and you get knees and a back that aches during long runs and when the barometer rises.

I have had X-rays and have been tested for arthritis, but my doc says nothing there. Just getting old I guess:rolleyes1. Lol

Sorry had a "dur" moment with my pennsylvania question, she lives in northeast,pa (as in the town is called northeast) but actually located in nw pa! Oops!

I know you weren't talking to me, but I know where that is cause I live in Erie!! I've been wondering how many people from this area might be doing the Princess!!

The other day at the Y, I saw a girl wearing a 2011 "I did it" Princess shirt, and if she wasn't so incredibly skinny I would have gone up and asked her about it :rotfl: I knew she would take one look at me and think, yeah right, this girl thinks she can do a half marathon! :rotfl:

ETA: If you are the skinny skinny skinny girl I saw at the Y, hi! Sorry I didn't ask about your Princess experience, your skinnyness scared me a bit, since I am so not skinny at all!

I was supposed to do 10 today.... not so much. Got 4 done. My legs were so heavy, it was just such an off off day. Bummer!

I'll try again tomorrow!

Hope you all are doing well?

Michele

If anyone else was unable to order a commemorative pin, please email rundisney. Maybe if they hear from enough of us, they will ask their vendor to supply more. The race is still undersubscribed so it is odd that they are already sold out of the pins.
Happy Running!
Pam

Just emailed them! Maybe if enough runners make a stink, they will make more pins available.

All of you wondering how many people are running princess from your area, just wait until you get to the airport! We were on a non-stop to Orlando for Princess last year and marathon weekend. Both planes with filled with runners and their families! If you bring a running magazine on the plane there is a good chance you'll end up not reading any of it and instead end up talking to the person next to you about running during the flight. I love how friendly disney runners are:goodvibes

Thanks for sharing. I just stole this for my fb page!

Happy to help!!!

Just got my ME tickets today! Yeah, I'm going back to Disney!

I can't wait to get mine!!! ME tickets make it feel so real!

I'll probably find out how many are going from DFW and Houston and my flight. My Southwest flight stops in Houston, so I wonder how many people from Dallas will be on the flight plus how many we might pick up. I'll be the person with a look of worry on my face because I don't want to forget anything. This will be my first half.

Heather, you are exactly right. On my three flights to Disney races I have met some fun and friendly runners. I will only be flying from Miami for the Princess this year ( returning from vacation in South America) so I may be the only runner on my short flight. However, I will wear a "I Did It" shirt from last years race just in case. ;)

Did I read somewhere that the timing chips will be attached to our bibs this year? I know at last year's princess, we had the "D" tags that we attached to our shoes. Those stress me out just a little (wondering if I attached it right). I would love to have 1 less thing to worry about this year!!
