Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Can you switch the massage until the next day? the general rule of thumb is that you should wait 24-48 hours post-marathon since your muscles are so inflamed. Since the princess is only a half, the shorter end of it will be fine i bet - but I would still wait a day. Even with many halfs under my belt (I think I'm on 15 in three years?) I still get pretty sore after a race effort. Heck, I raced a 10K last weekend and I was still pretty sore the next day :lmao: Better safe than sorry. If you absolutely can't move the appointment, I would make sure you tell your masseuse to go very light.

Thanks for the info! At AKL, they were pretty good with the time so I think we'll be ok if I move it.

Hi everyone I've not posted in a while but i've been trying to keep up with the thread best I can! I have seen a lot of princesses on facebook talking about the race retreat & as much as I would love to do it I can't justify the extra cost as I'm planning on signing up for the DL Half & going Coast to Coast from the UK!

I've run a couple of Half Marathons before & my PB is 2:04:58 - obviously the princess will be slower as I'll be stopping for photos etc but my mum is walking the princess & will prob cross the line about 2 hours behind me!!! What I'd like to know is what will be in the finish area for me to do for those 2hours?! Obviously I'll watch some of the other princesses cross the line but do runners not in the race retreat have access to food, character photos, medal engraving & massages & if so what are the approx costs?!

Thanks in advance for any advice - I can't believe it's so close now! princess:

Hi. I always get done before the relatives/friends that are in my group. So I have 1 - 2 hours to wait.
Bring at least $20.00 cash because that what it costs to have your metal engraved (and they prefer cash). And I really like getting that done!
Bring your credit card for other purchases if you want to buy anything. They always have more Disney race stuff for sale at the end. Mostly the same stuff at the Expo.
Yes, you will have access to food. Probably bagels, chips, fruit and such. I'm sure it's not as nice as what you get in the race retreat. Just the normal stuff after a long race.
I also have my phone with my so I can track where my peeps are (via runner tracking - make sure you sign up for this). I'm running Tinkerbell as well, so I'm hoping to find them on the route and have signs for them & cheer them on. I'm contemplating walking some of the route with them towards the end (much easier to do at Disneyland then DisneyWorld). :cool1:
I bring a Soduko book to pass the time.
I watch the medals being given out to the top finishers and look at them in awe at how fast they are!:worship:
I talk to people.
Also, don't forget to go to the "W" tent to talk with other Wishers!

The friend traveling with me hasn't been to Disney since she was a teenager, so we're def doing Magic Kingdom just to see the fireworks one evening. We're so positive about our energy level that we're planning to do Disney Sunday, Universal Monday (just to go to Harry Potter) then back to Disney for EMH that evening then Disney Tuesday till we have to get on Magical Express! Note that it looks like Big Thunder will be down for rehab while we're there.

Where ever everyone goes on the day of the race and the days afterwords, you need to wear your medal!
You get lots of congratulations.
I wore mine on the plan rides all the way home (12 hours)!:cool1:

An item of note, If you're on the fence about deferring to a later race this may sway you:
Active.com fees are non-refundable. If you elected to purchase a pin and a necklace with your registration, you paid three fees totaling $11.16. There is a $35 deferral charge (that can be waived if the Rep you speak too feels pity for you:confused3), an Active.com fee associated with the new race you register for, and any price increase associated with the new race you select! Of course you get credited for the registration you already paid.

Add it all up: $11.16 + $35 + $10.25 + $150 -$130 = $76.41 more

The $150 is the first tier registration price for the Princess 2013 race (yes, that is a $20 increase from the first tier price I paid in July 2011 of $130). Ouch!:scared1:

Great advice thanks - I definitely want to get my medal engraved! What/where is the wish tent?!

In the morning and after the finish there are tents with letter A-Z and it is a good place to meet up with friends and family. Wishers meet at the tent with the "W". Tents often have more than one letter for each.

I'm going to jump in here and not read all the posts. This will be my fourth Princess and I am running as a mother/daughter team with my older daughter this year. We are running as Team Cool Runnings...Feel the rhythm, Feel the rhyme, Get on up, It's runnin' time!

The first year I ran with both daughter and the following year by myself and last year with both daughters again. In the 2010 and 2011 program they used a photo of the three of finishing in 2009. Very Cool.

Time to put those miles in and stay healthy.

Did my first 10k in 59:24 and definitely hoping that will move me up in the corrals. Wore my regular running shoes, and didn't realize how worn they were .. so barely missed puncturing the Nike "air" and deflating on the course! After a bunch of research, I settled on some new Mizuno cushiony shoes ... think I'll leave my more minimalist shoes at home.

Oh and gals ... I definitely recommend wearing compression knee-hi's if you can! They reduce fatigue considerably and wick really well. I figure for those of us not in Orlando, they would also be great choices for the flights home. :)

Keep it up, ladies!

I hate knee-highs because I'm so short. They become over the knee socks for me, no matter what the size:rotfl:. Do you think compression tights and compression sport (ankle) socks would work as well?

I love wearing compression socks during flights. My feet used to swell during flights, but the compression socks helped with that. However, that's pretty much the only time when I use them.

I just don't wear them on my run, because for me it didn't really make that much of a difference. For me, it's what you do before and after your workout that makes a big difference. Stretching is an obvious one, but I also use rolling sticks and stretching ropes to help loosen my muscles and break up the lactic acid.

Hi all, solo runner here that is just getting back into training. I have so many questions about shoes and products and such. Can't wait to surf the forums here. Seems like a lot of good advice! This will be my first official "race" ever :)

Hello! I would pick MK to go to if I was only there for 2 half days, it just wouldn't seem Disney if I didn't go to mk. You also could get park hoppers and spend a half day at each park??

My plans for race day are: get to race retreat around 3:30am, hang out there, race, hang out in retreat until crowds thin a bit. Then back to BLT to clean up, then to Saratoga springs for lunch at turf club then to the spa for massage and a full facial. Then meet the family at Epcot and dinner at garden grill!

We are there for a total of eight nights so we can spread out a bit where we are going. Wow we are getting close!

Until after lunch, and a shower at SSR we have similar plans, lol. We are going to MK and it is suppose to be Artist Point for dinner, but I have been hear not so great things lately. Perhaps Whispering Canyon Cafe, perhaps they can help keep me moving by moving ketchup bottles around the room. :yay:

Saw the ortho doctor today. No stress fractures!:banana: Just REALLY bad shin splints. So no running for 2 weeks. :sad2: SO that leaves me 4 weeks to kick it up for the Princess! In the mean time I'm going to try the elliptical since we have one right here at home. Definately going to get some compression socks. How do they run on sizes? I'm hoping I still can get in on the schwaggle deal. Where have you that have the Zensah ones gotten them?

No help on the compression, though I think the swaggle deal is good still.

Try some Blue Emu Creme, you can get it at Walmart. or if you want to order online, Penetrex which contains arnica oil. Or go find some arnica oil. All are natural anti-inflammatory and can penetrate to get right to inflamation.....if you are feeling like you are taking too much Advil or the like, I highly rec these products, work for me. When my stomach bothers me from taking too much ibuprophen, I just used these. Def help.

Good luck with the training, keep doing what you can and take care of those shins! Glad its not a stress fracture.

Thanks Julie! I'll look for the Blue Emu cream. The doc gave me a script and some samples of Celebrex. He said to try taking 2 for 4 days and then 1 for about a week. Although after I took my stomach was not too happy. Not sure if it was the med or just a coincidence. I'll try it tomorrow again and if I get the same result I won't take it.

Good morning! Just an update on some ride stuff I read about. I read that Dumbo is / has been closed but will "reopen Feb. 18th as part of the new Fantasyland". No mention of any other new Ftsyld rides being open by Princess time. Also, Big Thunder Railroad is closed for refurb until May 27th.

I had samples of Celebrex once (arthritis in lower back) and loved them!!! If it's still bothering you, take them at night before bed. I did that and slept so soundly that I snored REALLY LOUD!!:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 DH was upset b/c I didn't wake when he shook me, LOL. I woke up feeling great the next day!!! :rotfl2:

I got mine at runningwarehouse.com. They have a WISH discount, which I believe is WISHRACED.

SOOO glad that it's not a stress fracture!!! Great news. :goodvibes

I'm also at All Star Sports...I was beginning to think I'd be the only one there!

I'm at ASMo! I was at ASsports last year, and believe me, you will not be the only one there! I was in one of the football buildings and was awakened by cheerleaders practicing on the fake field below.

I found it to be fine for me, but decided this year I wanted a more "Disney" resort, with a chance there will be fewer sports/dance teams. I realize they put them in all the All-Stars, but I moved to movies and got a preferred room, so hopefully I will at least have a chance at not being awakened by cheering :cheer2: Monday morning. :rotfl:

When I went out to get in line for the bus, it stretched through the lobby, by the food court, out the door, and all the way around the pool. I recommend going down earlier than you think you need to, unless you don't mind a long wait in line for the buses. I'd rather wait at the race than at the hotel, but that might just be me. This was my first WDW race at a Value, and I found the line to be a lot longer than my normal time going down at a Mod or Deluxe. Duh! Plenty of solo princesses just like me who didn't really care about the room, and felt it was plenty of space and didn't need many amenities w/out the troops. ::yes::
