Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I missed my 3 miler the other day, thanks to a show that I forgot I had to do. I was getting changed to go to the gym, and the production manager called me to remind me that the show was in an hour. Oops! Once the show was over, it was past 11 and the gym was closed. Onwards and upwards.

This week our runs are:
Tues: 30-45 minutes
Thurs: 30-45 minutes
Sat: 11 miles.

Saturday is going to be a problem. We have a 3 hour show that afternoon, and then another show in the evening, and we're at sea (and that sea day is typically rough). I'm also not crazy about running long distances pre-show. I get kind of run-drunk and I'm not on top of my game.
We might bump it to Sunday, but Sunday is crazy too. It's our home-port day (Miami) and it's always a crazy, crazy run around day. We'd have to try the run when we got back on the ship as it was headed out to sea again, and hope for good weather for a few hours.

Wish us luck!

All this race retreat talk got me thinking...should I do retreat? Then I started reading about Platinum ChEar package that would be nice for my family. Right now they don't even plan on meeting me after the race. I have a feeling that I will really be missing my baby daughter after being away all those hours. The race retreat wouldn't be worth it for me if I'm going to head right back to the hotel after the race. It would be nice if my family could come see me tho ...My question...is it $85.00 per person? I really don't think its clear on the ESPN page...

Me too! I'm running by myself and this is my first Disney Race, I'm so nervous and excited it would help to be around other princesses to remember to enjoy everything :)

-Jenn

Me too ME too - except I am super slow and don't want to slow anyone down but meeting people on the bus or in the corrals would be so fun.

Katie's Mom, I'm getting caught up on posts from yesterday and saw your "Go Phillies". I'm in South Jersey, Deptford to be exact. Nice to see another local princess :) Good luck with your training!
Jenn

Hello neighbor! You are 10 minutes from me. :goodvibes

Some days I find myself stressing over fitting all of my runs in, but am doing the best I can.

Best of luck to you with your training!

Personally, I'd take them both. I think either one will probably get you to A corral. I would bet if you ask them at the expo they will run both numbers and give you the higher corral. They are totally nice and will work with people on this! One of my friends ran a 10K under my husbands name (he couldn't do it and we'd already paid for the race, so why waste it?) So her proof was listed in his name. She showed them the print out of the race result, plus a picture (LOL!) of her crossing the finish line with the bib on. They took it.

NO idea how they came up with that number for my finish, but I was really in B.

Good luck! You have great times either way you slice it!

great - thanks for the info! i'm not particularly thrilled with my 10k time but i don't think i have another chance to run one until april

So ladies...what is on your training schedule this week?

Jenn...are you on the FB Princess Group?

Hi, all... I haven't been here in quite a while. Unfortunately, my Disney Princess plans have been derailed, as tomorrow I'm having a double mastectomy. I had breast cancer 6 years ago, with a lumpectomy and radiation, and had no problems since then until December. Lumpectomy was an option again, as it's in the other breast, but radiation would definitely keep me from running. Looking over my shoulder for that Big C monster the rest of my life did not seem like an acceptable option, so tomorrow it's bye bye, tatas. I will be back to running ASAP - my doctor says as soon as a couple of weeks - but I'm too far behind on my training and there is probably a 10 percent chance of my being able to participate and not get swept. I haven't totally given up yet, and hubby is running it, so there will be bling in this house... just not mine.

It's been so much fun reading about you all and your training milestones, and I will continue to check in and keep up with the news. Best of luck to you ALL!!

Sending good thoughts and vibes from Oregon your way!

Now that we are getting down to logistics time, I'm thinking of questions I had or things I was nervous about last year. Here are just a few things I thought might be helpful to first-time princesses:

1) You will not specifically find out your corral until you pick up your bib at the expo, but in early Feb. they will send out waivers by e-mail with your bib # on it. Lots of speculation will occur on this board regarding who is in what corral based on bib #. The lower the #, the faster the corral. Many people were posting what their bib #'s were and what their pace is, so we could kind of piece together a guesstimate of who was in which corral. Then, solos can start finding running buddies!

2) You prob. won't get a lot of sleep the night before. YOu'll be excited, maybe strung out from travelling, noisy hotel, et cetera. I slept horrible, got up at 3, ran, closed down the MK that night and was fine. I mean, once we got back I fell asleep with all the lights on while Julie was talking to me, but it didn't affect my run!:rotfl:

3) Lay out all your stuff the night before. 3am is no time to decide what you are taking with you! Make sure your timing chip is secure. If it's the shoe thing again this year, follow the directions closely. Saw a couple of those on the ground early in the race last year. Tragic!

4) Prep your camera! I have a camera that takes AA batteries. Between the flash use in the early hour and the telephoto lens, my batteries were draining, pronto. I had to miss some shots I wanted due to conservation! Julie's issues were more severe - she has a camera with a rechargeable battery cartridge. Left this in the room. Again - tragic!

5) Potty stops - I thought there were plenty of opps for this, and I should know since I drank WAY too much water and had to pee every 5 minutes. If you are fussy about portas, you will go right by real restrooms in Tomorrowland. I saw some princesses head to the royal forest <ahem> last year, but my pride was larger than my relief needs to be doing that.:rotfl2:

6) The drive to Epcot was relatively quick and there is NO WAY you can get lost. The only people out driving at that moment are all going to the same place! Julie said that leaving the parking lot afterwards, however, was a nightmare. Might want to plan to hang out!

7) I ran solo last year, which was fine and there were plenty of people and things to keep your spirits up, but there was a definite letdown at the finish. You cross the finish line, get your medal and then...... you are ushered out to the big parking lot area. There are places to get your pic made, and the usual post-race snacks, but it is a bit of a lonely feeling. I would highly rec. solo runners to find a buddy from this board and stick together!

8) After the race. The LAST thing you want to do (unless you are injured) is sit on your tuckus! Hit the parks, swim, walk somewhere, but keep moving or you will be so stiff! J & I toured the parks most of the afternoon and evening and we felt really good the next day.

9) Characters I missed - I know there were 2 I blew by. The first one you might want to look for is right before you enter the castle; Cinderella was there last year. I saw her, but the line was pretty long. Oh, and speaking of the castle, after you come out, you will see a line to the left forming. This is to get your pic in front of the castle. These are the prof. photogs and they are trying to get people in and out ASAP; they most likely will not take a pic with your camera. All other photo stops have a CM there to help out. The castle shot IS cool b/c they make it look like you are the only person there. I didn't buy mine, thoug, b/c the way I had my legs made me look like I had to pee again:laughing: The other shot that I just completely missed was Mickey & Minnie in royal clothes RIGHT before the finish line. I had no idea they were there!

Okay - I think that's about all I can think of right now. Any other veteran princesses have anything to add?

Amy, awesome idea!!

I was not solo, so I can't add much there. We have a large and rowdy group!

Race night she is absolutely right, sleep will be spotty. Be sure to get as good of a night's sleep as you can both Thursday and Friday nights - at least 8 hours.

Hydrate a TON on Friday and Saturday, but stop drinking around 8PM on Saturday night so you won't be up all night in the bathroom. Drink no more than 8-12 oz on Sunday morning before the race, and be sure to hit the port-a-potty before heading to the corrals.

Be sure and make a list of things that you need to bring with you and check off things as you pack them. We can start going over the list here in early Feb.

Most importantly, if you are flying, pack things that are not replaceable in your carry-on, like shoes and sports bra and whatever you wear on the bottom. Having to replace a tech shirt shouldn't be a big deal, but you don't want to try out newshoes, tights/shorts or bra on the day of a race.

Should spectators go to Epcot for the start at 4 am or can they go straight to MK and then take the monorail back to Epcot for the finish? I just signed DH up for the ChEAR squad last night. My mom has been wishy washy about whether or not she will go to the finish. Could she just go straight to the finsish a little later?

We will have a car. I am planning to take the bus and leave the car for DH and Mom.

Hi everyone!

I can't possibly read through all the old posts from this thread and the previous Princess thread, but I am going to try to keep up with new posts now that I am speaking up. Actually I made a comment ages ago in the previous thread but its been long enough I wanted to reintroduce myself.

This will be my first Princess Half and my second Disney Half (ran the Wine & Dine in 2011 with a 2:28 finish). I am very excited!

My boyfriend of 1 year proposed to me Christmas day and we are getting married February 19th, so now this has also turned into our Honeymoon trip!!

I have a few questions:

1) I saw a commemorative necklace for sale on rundisney with no picture! I mean really, you can't sell jewelry to a chick without showing what it looks like. Anyone have any ideas?

2) DisneyBride'03 - thanks very much for the facebook link. I have requested to join! ... And just got accepted!!

3) With such an early start time, when does everyone have their last meal?

4) I am considering the race retreat? Any thoughts on a yay or nay for that extra cost?

5) I already bought the gold chear package for my honey. If I get the race retreat do you think I can upgrade him?

- Carey
