Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Congrats on signing up! I think it's safe to say that the majority of people on this board are doing some form of interval running and I saw it consistently at last year's race. Not to start another etiquette lecture thread, but the commonly accepted "race etiquette" when you are about to start walking is to raise your hand, say loudly, "Walking!" and to start moving over to the side.

The Princess is SO much fun and everyone is really friendly and supportive. If I thought I wasn't going for a time last year, I'm REALLY not going for one this year. I am going to get as many awesome pictures as I possibly can!

Hey - has anyone bought park tickets using the RunDisney discount yet? I'm looking at getting a 3-day hopper. Can anyone tell me the price if you have already gotten this? Thanks!

I got a 4 day with runDisney for $210 thats with tax and delivery, BUT its been a week and I don't have it in the mail yet

Hello everyone,

tinkeramy, I looked up the 3-day PH ticket price for you and its $175.73. LOVE these race weekend discounts!

Happy holidays to all, and happy training!

Thanks! I've been saving my change for a little bit, and when I do cash it in I go buy a Disney gift card - that keeps me from spending the $$ on something else! I've got about $100 saved up, and I asked for Disney gift cards for Christmas, so maybe I can get enough to get my tickets paid for. Then, it's just hotel room; I'm getting a gas card through My Points. Trying to make this as painless as possible for my family since this is a girl's weekend away! I work at a preschool and seem to be pretty healthy - last year I made a bundle in extra pay subbing for all the teachers who were sick or had sick kids in January! So, hopefully, I'll make enough again this year to put a good dent in the hotel room bill.

On a side note, did everyone see the notice about the newest Disney race? It's end of September and it the Tower of Terror 10 miler! It's at night, like the Wine & Dine. According to the notice, you have private access to the DHS rides like Tower and Rock & Roller Coaster after the race. How fun would that be?!?! Oh, Lord, I need to be independently wealthy to fund my Disney racing habit! I'm still devastated that I couldn't swing the inaugural Tinkerbell!

You sound like me. I am still working on paying for the Princess trip and now I have to start putting money away for the ToT race. I need to win the lottery.

Haven't been on here in a couple days and I know I will be very busy this weekend too (even tho I promise to get a run in there somewhere!) so I just wanted to say to all my fellow princesses, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I hope your Christmases are wonderful and bright! princess:

Oh I know. I also keep adding 5ks with friends who decided theY wanted to do it after I did the Halloween 5k. So that means the 5k in two weeks and Expedition Everest, too! And just when I think ok, I'll cut it to one race a year after that, they add a 10 miler. At least I live in Florida and have a seasonal pass that conveniently expires the day after ToT! And I tell my husband that it's still cheaper than a gym membership :thumbsup2

yeah! 10 miles done in 1:39 and change. feels so good to conquer injury (and makes me feel less guilty about all the holiday food and wine i've been consuming!)

If we order the discounted park tickets from the race store can we have those tickets added to our KTTW cards? I really dont what to carry 2 cards if I can only carry one.

Greetings, princesses! It's been a while and checking in to say let's keep up the good work!

Except for a 2-week trip, I've been running pretty consistently...even out this morning with a wind chill of 27! Next hurdle is a 10k on January 7 so I can get a decent start corral.

Running is so fantastic....almost addictive once I really got into it. My regimen is probably a little different from most of yours ... someone told me to "be a Kenyan" to run well ... ie use my power, run or walk, to get around everyday and be outdoors a lot. So I made some lifestyle adjustments .... commute a few miles to work .... take stairs .... reduce central air in my house...etc Also, I dont use watches, Ipods, etc (except do plan for an interval timer clipped to my hat at the Princess), just go for it like a kid and let my body respond to the environment. The results are nothing short of fantastic. Went from 10:30 to 8:35 splits in a little under 2 years. I realize this may not work for everyone. And of course I will slow down a bit for the half with 3:1 intervals.

On a totally different topic, if I am staying with someone who lives in Orlando, and they are dropping me off at Epcot on race day but not going in to park, where is the best place for them to let me off??

Thanks and love reading these boards. Happy Training to all!

:santa:

I just ordered a pink Team Sparkle skirt for Princess. Now I just need to figure out what else I want to wear with it. I am not crafty at all so it will have to be something simple.

Bad news, I haven't been able to run the last few days and probably for another few and it has nothing to do with the holidays. I accidentally twisted my ankle and its still swollen and slighly painful, although getting better everyday. Hopefully it will be feeling good enough to run on after Christmas, but I guess we'll see. I'm going to try and get on the bike tomorrow and then I'll run around BCV on Christmas Eve (hopefully).

My friend who I'm running the princess with is actually doing her first 5 miler this week and so I'm taking the role of cheerleader this week!

I hear you on not being crafty. I ordered lime and gold team sparkle skirts for marathon weekend, and didn't end up with crafty outfits at all. I'm thinking about going for a belle themed outfit for princess so I don't have to get another skirt, but my first try at a belle outfit for marathon weekend failed. Hopefully the second time around I have more success! :rotfl:

I want to order one too.. Did it run pretty much true to size ? I'm not crafty either.. Just planning on the blue skirt and a blue top and being Cinderella!

I'm hoping to get my long run in tomorrow morning cuz I have company Christmas Eve and Christmas day.. and with the Pats game tomorrow at 1 it looks like I'll have people earlier than planned

Wishing you all Hapoy Holidays!! :santa:

I feel like I have finally gotten back on the wagon. I got a 7.5 mile run in yesterday. Was hoping to do 10 miles on Monday, my supposed day off that has now turned in to a full day of work since I',m on call. At least it's holiday pay. Maybe Tuesday I can get it in.

Merry Christmas :santa: to all the Princesses! princess:

Great Pace!!!

We are going to WDW in Sept as a family, I asked my DH if we could move the trip back a few weeks so I can do ToT, I did not get a happy face.
I guess I can't be greedy. I still get to go to the princess on a girls only trip!

is there a specific reason why you can't move the trip back a few weeks? (work, flights already booked, etc) if not i really don't see what the big deal is at all to move the trip back so you can do the run. i think it sets an amazing example for your children that mommy is strong enough to run. more often than not my childhood trips revolved around my dads races (summer trips for ironmen races, disney trips for marathon weekend, etc.) i loved hanging around the finish lines - i thought all the athletes were almost superheros, and i was so proud that my daddy was one of them. it obviously had a lasting impact on me since i'm a now marathoner and aspiring triathlete!

don't forget about the kiddie races/5k too...maybe the kids will want to get involved, too!

Did 8 miles this week. Felt great!! It's awesome so see everyone's progress!

So, it's a big fat doughnut hole for runs this week! Oh, well - not beating myself up. My shins were getting sore, anyway, so a week off isn't going to blow me out of the water. Next week, back on track since the hubs is off all week. Might even be able to fit something in tomorrow, in between our Cmas morning and going to my FIL's. Will try to take DS #1 with me to hyper down! We just put all the kids to bed in the same room with strict instructions not to emerge until 6:15. Fortunately, DH set the clock back 30 minutes!:rotfl:

Hope Santa or the Hanukkah fairy brings you all the running gear you wanted! Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah!:santa::hippie:

Merry Christmas to everyone! I had a less than perfect week, training-wise. My dad and stepmom were on the ship visiting this cruise, so we did more eating and touring than running. I managed to get my long run in (8 miles), but that's about it. I'm going to call it a victory.

Back on track this week, excited to get to it!

Yep! ME too....also doing to ToT. and now wondering if I should look into season pass?

Reading posts about marathon weekend makes me that much more excited about Princess and we are still a little over 60 days away. :goodvibes
