Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I finally found the new thread!!

I have a question for those of you experienced at long distances: I just picked up running seriously in June (hadn't done anything more than fun 5Ks before then) and am working up to the Princess half in Feb. My training partner is now thinking about training beyond that for a marathon, as there is one in April that might work out. Since we are already at 10 mi now, does 26 miles by April seem like a reasonable goal? I was thinking of following one of the Galloway plans for the WDW Marathon and just modifying the dates.

Absolutely! I ran my first half in Sept 2009, and went on to complete a full in November! If you finish the half marathon feeling strong, then go for it! :yay:

I ran 13.1 miles today training run! I did it in 2 hrs 17 minutes! avg a 10 min mile! My fartherst distance to date!

:woohoo: Congrats!! I will NEVER be able to keep that pace, I am in awe of you!!!

I've had the same issue with the Nike+ app - I think I was able to squeeze 15-16 miles out of it, but the phone battery was pretty drained. I also did alot of my long runs this summer on these wooded, back roads (aka I'm sure horrible for satellite reception), and the Nike app would be over a mile off as compared to my Garmin! And I knew the Garmin was close to accurate (although I'm sure not perfect) since the course was pre-measured for us. I use my ipod nano during races (or long runs) since I'm worried about my phone draining and then not be able to use to it post-race to find anyone

I was pretty spot on with my Nike app during the Disneyland race, but I have noticed when it gets weak signal or you accidentally lock your phone it isn't accurate. I accidentally locked my phone for a little bit during a recent 5k and the mileage was definitely off then...

For training while at Disney: I made sure I got my long run in right before or after I got back and counted all the walking we did as my shorter runs. I wasn't this close to a big long race like the princess though. But when we figured out how much walking we did while in the parks, we were pretty shocked at how much it was. Have fun!

I jog to and from the car and then count it as a 30min run. It actually doesnt seem ackward as everyone walks fairly briskly. I figure well be running through a parking lot for the race, so why not for training? :)

Since I didn't run at all last week, I decided to put off the 8 mile run until next week. I did however run 3 miles this morning in 27 minutes! That is the first time I have done that. I don't know if I can keep that pace for longer runs but I'm happy that I can do that on short runs. :cool1:

I'll be staying at Disney starting this Wednesday through Christmas and then again on New Years. Now I won't be running when I'm there for New Years (its just for a night), but I'm looking forward to running during the Christmas trip. We're staying at BCV and I have a route I found last year that's about 6 miles that I plan to do, maybe go a bit longer. The area is my favorite to run. The ~2 to DHS and the hotels is one of my all time favorites.

We will be at BCV the 21st through the 27th, too! We're planning two short runs--still rehabbing my foot. I love running around the BW early in the morning and the weather is looking great! Have a great trip!:goodvibes

We're there from the 21st-26th! One day difference... maybe I'll catch you guys running! I'll be running in the early mornings because I still have to work most of the days I'm there with my parents. I'm usually running inside the resorts (from BCV to DHS and back), but I've also been running next to the street since there's actually sidewalks around those resorts.

Hey all! Nice to find a new thread!

I've been crazy busy, with a week away for work and all the holiday business plus my spouse's birthday on the 11th so I've been a major slacker on training.

I did my first 10 miler the weekend before Thanksgiving, which also happened to be my 42nd birthday. That was a big mental leap, but I've only done two long runs since then, one 8.5 and one 8 miles. I've been completely slacking on the weekday runs, though I did 30 minutes of stairmonstering one evening this week because it's in my house and I knew I had to do SOMETHING.

Today was a slow 8 miles, but I did a magic mile for the 4th mile in 12:36. I guess I'm ahead of the sweepers, but I wish I were improving. I suppose that's not going to happen without the weekday runs!

Sorry so many of you are struggling to get all the runs in too, but I'll admit it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. :flower3:

Please say hello if you see us out and about. I think we are pretty recognizable.:goodvibes

Will do!

Say hello if you see me too! I'll probably have black running tights on and either a long sleeve red shirt, long sleeve green shirt, or the princess half shirt from last year (depends on how cold it is). I usually zone out of the real world while running so I might not recognize you.

I've also been slacking off on my running lately. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I've been just unable to actually RUN and it's been kind of a pain.

I did manage to get up off my warm couch and head to a local 5k this morning. I ran a pretty fun Jingle Bell race in a near by town - I sort of regret not dressing up, but after a few minutes I realized my green gloves were enough because it was FREEZING out!

Final times won't be posted until tomorrow, but I have a pretty good idea of where I was. I definitely didn't meet my new (secret) goal, and I didn't have a repeat performance of a few weeks ago whee I basically FLEW through a 5k, but I did it. I got out there and ran in 25 degree temperatures.

I do want to point out that I started the race behind a woman dressed as what I can only assume was the leg lamp thing from that horrible Christmas movie (yes, I absolutely HATE that movie - it's the only Christmas movie I will not watch or say by name). I noticed a little tattoo on her right shoulder blade - she completed an IronMan! I just thought it was pretty cool that I started a local 5k with an IronMan.

Hi all! Sounds like we have some real speedies with us....wow, 2:17 for 13.1 is awesome! I'll be lucky to do my 10 mile run this Friday in 2:17...my last 10 mile training run I did in less than 2 hours, but I've slowed by about a minute and a half now. I'm also not sure I have the energy to speed back up. :rotfl:

I'm working on planning my route for Friday, figuring it will be easier to do it then when I can take a few hours off a super slow day at work than trying to fit it in on Christmas Eve (or Christmas Day...yikes). Then we're heading to see my parents in northern VA, so I'll have to get some runs in there too. That will be a good excuse to get away. :lmao:

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the holidays, but trying to be positive and look forward to a good run today!

You ladies are doing amazing!! I'll be with the bunch who is finding it hard to run the shorter runs during the week. I am stressed with Christmas coming up and getting everything ready I don't want to take the time to run!!!! I have 100 other things to do however I DID go on my 8 miler this weekend and finished in 1:44 :) Not the best time but I did the whole 8 miles and actually felt pretty great afterwards. Felt great mentally and physically, now I can only hope to feel as great after 13.1?!?!!! I'm just so happy I only have 3 miles on Christmas Eve to do so I'll make sure to be up early and start my day off right. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my other princesses! I probably won't be back on til after Christmas so enjoy the season with family and friends everyone :)

Good work everyone! I'm really impressed by everyone's dedication to their training.
We ended up missing a week due to timing of ports and rough seas, but we are back on track as of this week. We ran 8 miles yesterday, and it felt GREAT! I'm happy with my pace, since it's a pace where I feel strong and it feels good for me.

We ended up just writing off a week (including a MM on the Galloway plan) and just skipping ahead to the 8 mile, since we both felt strong and ready. We don't really know where we're going to find a track anyway - and its not like we're going to turn on the data on our iphones in the Caribbean - way too pricey! We'll just run our best and figure it out as we go.
