Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I just did a post on my blog about some common misconceptions about Disney races. Check it out if you are running your first runDisney event and have some questions in your head about what will happen!

I loved it Heather!!! In October my DH did the Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon and I did the Halloween 5K. I was so proud of my medal, and wore it all over the parks! Here are some pics!

For those who have run before: how quickly does the temp rise during the race? I think the high for Sunday is around 75 depending on which site you check. I'm used to running in 40-60 degree weather. Im trying to figure out if i should wear the long sleeve shirt that looks better with my costume or the short sleve shirt with a throwaway sweatshirt over it for the morning. Any advice would be great. This is my first half and first pre-dawn start.

Last year I wore a tank top, running skirt and tutu and pink Mickey ears. I agree with the rest that you need to dress for the warmer weather. You can always bring something to throw off if needed.

Today I did my last long run before the Princess. I ran 2:00 hours for 12.4 miles. I'm so ready to taper now! Whew!

See you all on Thursday.

For anyone who missed the Disneyland window you might want to consider running Charity. I did it both with the September half and the Tinkerbell half via the Southern Olympics of California. They're a great group, you only pay one flat fee about 500 bucks (which compared to some organizations isn't that bad) and you have a spot. Plus you get a park ticket for running with them!

Here's a link of a photo of me and another SOSC runner on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2777439029647&set=o.15228887806&type=3&theater

Started to get excited and nervous. Though the later I'm not sure if it is because of my test on Tuesday or because of the race!

Great blog! I read over your marathon recap--- is that "normal" for people to jump on rides like that? I have stayed far far away from the marathon talk (no way, no day!) but my husband was thinking of doing Goofy next year. Just wondering if hoping on Everest mid run is something the "pros" do! I was cracking up over it--- very funny to me to see someone in the middle of a race make a pit stop for other than potty! lol

Great blog post Heather! Your discussion of medal wearing has prompted yet another question for me: Do people normally wear their medals only on the day of the race? Or does it go on for a few days? I leave Monday so it's not like I'll be wearing it all week. Or maybe I will at home. ;-)

At any other race but Disney, I would wear the medal for a little while after, until I got in my car to go home, probably.

Disney races, however, I wear mine pretty much until I get on the plane to go home! :) There will be a lot of other people wearing them in the parks and resorts and it's fun to say congrats to each other and chat about the race.

I'm so pumped!! I can't wait, I am so ready for this, I am pumped, ready to rock-and-roll, 4 more days of work and we are OUTTA HERE!!

princess:

Freepixie, I totally remember when you first started posting and how scared and unsure you were - look at you now!! What a great inspiration you are for others! :thumbsup2

Last year was around the same temp as it's predicted currently this year, and I don't remember being cold at all waiting for the start. I wore a running skirt and a ss top, so I think you would be fine. Like all the others say, you warm up pretty quick, especially with all those other warm bodies around! I was in corral B last year and I run around a 10-11 minute mile and the sun was coming up just before I reached the MK. I definitely second whoever recommended a visor - there is NO shade between the MK and Epcot finish. And, as the wife of a man who has a big 'ol scar on his back from getting skin cancer cut out...REMEMBER THE sunscreen!!! The big red scar looks manly on him, but I would feel bad for a fellow princess to look just as manly....

I love posts like this! Thanks! What's fun about all the blogs is that it makes the race last a little longer - you come home and get to read everyone's race reports! Love hearing all the stories!

We only stayed until Monday last year, but I think Julie wore hers on the plane home. We both wore ours around the parks for the rest of Sunday, and it WAS a lot of fun to run into other princesses and congratulate them!

Hubs is home today so I am planning to make my final check list of stuff I need to pick up. Leaving directly after work on Thursday (I teach preschool, so around lunch time) and Julie and I will spend all that quality time in the car planning our weekend park / event strategy!!! You better believe that on my pick up list for today is an industrial size bottle of sanitizer - I have 2 days of work with snotty 2 year olds who have not yet made friends with the tissue. And like to hold my hand. :scared1:

I feel that I have DISer guilt:( Been on here since 07, met so many wonderful people and have made awesome friendships, and with the race I am on FB instead of here!!!!

Totally got caught up in that group:) Hope everyone here is ready...healthy....and prepared mentally, cause that is most of it for me!

Anyone here get selected for the Jeff Galloway and other meet Fri morning? Somehow I did..:) Excited...esp since I never thought I could even cross that finish line for W & D in 2010! lol Now Princess is my 6th half and I am trying to beat my 2:33 time from 2011 WDW Half....not sure....my training stunk this week...Just want to have a fun weekend!!!

Safe travels everyone!
I unfortunately spend much more time on FB as well. I get on here once a week it seems...

I am very excited to finally meet some of you for the first time.

Happy running!!! I can't wait for Thursday!!!

I am so excited that I'm practically counting the hours until our flight leaves on Thursday at 11! I'm finally feeling strong and pretty injury free (ankle has been good for my last few runs although I haven't gone over 5 miles since last Saturday, and my shin splints are gone). I also found a yellow shirt for my Belle costume! It isn't a technical tee, but I think I'll be ok, and if worse comes to worse and I'm a ball of sweat at the end, oh well! I did get a pair of capris to wear under the sparkle skirt, but now I'm trying to decide about whether to switch to bike shorts. I think the warmth will be tough for me now that running in teens and 20's is my normal.

DH and I are going without the kids, so it's also just going to be a super special trip. We're going to take a Key to the Kingdom tour on Friday, and most of Saturday just relax by the pool, though we might hit the parks a bit. We're actually going back to Disney with the kids less than 3 weeks after we get home (spring break trip), so we don't have a great need to hit most of the rides except the ones the kids don't like.

Can't wait for our run! :woohoo:

It FINALLY sold out! Woo hoo! At last, the maximum number of women to pass me has been reached!

As far as I know, EE is the only ride that you can really do that on. It was definitely a little different to do in the middle of a race, but so much fun! Since we had to go through the normal line I was running with a couple others through the line, and when we'd get near some regular park guests we'd politely ask to go ahead of them. I'm sure they were taken off guard as well... "Excuse me, but may we go ahead, we're in the middle of running a race." :rotfl:

You'll definitely see lots of people wearing their medals. I wore mine on the flight home and wasn't alone!

I was doing so well on my training until we left for our cruise last Saturday :( I ended up with a terrible cold and only ran the Castaway Cay 5K and that was IT. Now I'm so nervous about this, being my first half and I am way under trained. I would rather be sick for Christmas than the last week of training for my first Disney half. I guess I should go through with it but I'm not excited anymore, just scared.

The magic and excitement of the race just might carry you through!

Love it! I totally want to do the marathon now just to run EE in the middle of it ;) Do many of the marathoners do this or where you an anomaly? Was this still early in the park day? Did somebody tell you that you could do this? What's to stop you from going on other rides that are already open? Curious minds want to know.

Well then I'll be wearing mine on Sunday and Monday and on the plane ride! princess:

I wouldn't worry at all about the last week of training. Just think of it as an extra long taper, and your legs will be super fresh! You'll do great. :thumbsup2

You've already accomplished most of your training. Just try to relax and enjoy the race. Get some shorter runs in this week and let your training before your cruise carry you through!

I definitely wasn't the only person stopping to ride. I would say the train I was on was about 1/2 park guests, 1/2 runners. I don't know the exact time that I was in AK, but I was about 4 hours into the race when I stopped. EE is right off the marathon course. I can't think of any other rides that are right off the course, maybe someone else knows. If there was another ride open I'm sure you could jump on, but lots of disney rides have pre-shows which would add extra time. EE is pretty quick because you can get on and off within a few minutes.

Have you seen the jacket yet? If so where? I am coveting a jacket and hope I can still get one on Saturday.

I'm in my easy runs, 3 miles, felt great! Although it has been between 30 - 45 here in MN. Trying to decide between the capri tights or the bike shorts under my Team Sparkle Minnie skirt! I hate to be hot! I also hae a throw-away shirt and gloves to donate. I know I will want them while I wait!

Safe travels to all!:flower3:

I am also debating capris or biker shorts under my sparkle skirt. My capris are more comfortable so they may win out even if it means I'll be a bit hotter.
