Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Ok, we keep the Lime Green. Aside from Tmz who responded in the WISH gear thread, anyone else want to join the W&D WISH shirt wagon? I promise it will be a nice running shirt and not just some cotton, ill-fitting tee.

Thanks, coach, for the advice. I didn't really think about how muscle is protein and I don't like the idea of losing some of it because I am not eating a small, post run protein meal. Going to fix that starting today.

I HAVE booked my rooms using the race discount and you are correct that they are room only, so you CAN NOT get the dining plan, but you DO get a free round of mini-golf (which I have never used) and it is like a regular ressie in the sense that you have to pay $200 now and then rest 60 days (or is it 45 days?) before arrival.

I can only offer my experience with the savings - we have a party of 6 staying for 3 nights and originally were doing a junior suite at Coronado Springs for the total price of about $1300. We instead booked two rooms at Port Orleans French Quarter (requested connecting, and did party of 4 and party of 2 - for party of 4 its $20 extra per night for the 2 additional adults), for a grand total of about $900. Not sure if this will help anyone else but that was my experience. We all are also each getting 2 day tickets via the race discount, which was a savings of $100 PER PERSON. Since the after party tickets are only $50ish each and I am already going as part of my registration fee, it all seems like a good deal. We are NOT doing the MVMCP on Friday night though, as much as I think it would be fun, because we're all 6 continuing on to a 7 day cruise after my race and we're trying not to break the bank within the first three days of the trip.

ANYWAY... 106 days away translates into just about 50 (if I'm good) runs between now and race day, which further translates into probably 25 visits to the Ballys treadmill, 10 loops on my Springwater trail, and 15 loops around my mountain. ACK! It seems close when I think about it like that.

Please don't make this come any quicker, I need all the time I can get :)

What exactly is wish?

You just posted on the Events/Competitions sub forum of the WISH forum. It stands for We are Inspired to Stay Healthy.

On the boards it is a place to talk about events like running or triathlon, get advice or motivation for dieting, nutrition, or fitness. In person there are meets at not only Disney running events but also some other events that have a large number of people from the boards participating. I met about 15-20 people from these boards one year in Nashville and then the following year in Indianapolis for running events.

There is no joining, just start posting and introduce yourself.

I'm staying in a Deluxe Alcove at the Dolphin for $234/night with my military discount. 4 adults & 1 child. I'm good with that. :)

I might possibly be interested! Depends on what the Lime green shirt ends up looking like as it's not the best color on me :rotfl:

It's coming slowly. Right now I'm averaging a 14 min mile. We have the same goals:) I just want to finish and not feel like dying:goodvibes I'm thinking of signing up for the Princess 1/2 as well when that opens up

I'm with you on this, Jennifer! 14 is right where I started. Depending on how long the run is, I've built up to between 11 and 12 min/mile. I'm totally jealous of anyone doing the Princess too!

Hi Leslie,
Welcome to the thread. I just finished reading some of your journal...I love to hear other's progress. I have been working toward my first half marathon too. I also had a peak at your ADR's. Looks like we will be seeing you at Ohanas race day morning..we have ADR for 920am.
Keep up the good work!
Kristen

Hi Kristen! Thanks for reading along with me! I really appreciate the support. We'll see you at O'hana's! Without my kids, I'm not sure if I'll know what to do with myself :lmao: What time do you plan on eating lunch...after breakfast, I'm at a loss of what to do before the race!

Leslie - HI!! yay! :goodvibes

Are we at the double digit mark yet? I am SO EXCITED!! Nervous, too. I have been wanting to try a 10 mile challenge run for the last few days but haven't had the time, and so have had to settle for my usual 6 or 7.5 route. Today is the day, I think.
Thanks for inviting me over, Carey! Did you get your 10 miles in? How'd it go!? I figured out today that I'm approximately 5 weeks from 10 miles. This weekend is 7 miles.

Aside from doing the 5K in the morning with my family I'm planning for a very relaxing day. We are not going to the parks at all that day...hanging out at the resort...maybe head to Downtown Disney for a late lunch/early dinner. I want to get a nap in before the race but I'm just not sure my body is going to cooperate with me. I'm planning on driving the Epcot and catching the bus to ESPN before the race.

Carey,
I maybe be interested in a WISH shirt as well. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
How did your 10 mile go? I completed 11 miles this week and felt absolutely great!:cool1: I'm still slow but I am ok with that. Now I am very optimistic that I can actually complete this half marathon! So exciting!

Leslielou-I'm jealous of that time. I did a 5 mile run yesterday and averaged 13:22 min. If I could get that down to 12 I would be happy. Are you doing the Princess?

OregonGirl-How did the 10 miles go?

Kaj1436-I'm doing the 5k that day as well. Hoping to get a few hours sleep after 5k then late lunch before the race.

Has anyone booked rooms using the race discount? I called for a price and even though it is a room only reservation, it is being handled like a package. Requires the $200 deposit and pay at 45 days. She did say it included a mini golf certificate and some others she wasnt sure of.

Just curious if anyone had anymore info.

Update I got my conf email and it says:

1 ROUND OF MINIATURE GOLF
1 PER PERSON [ 1, 2 ]

FEATURE
CURL BY SAMMY DUVALL OFFER
1 PER ROOM [ 1 ]

FEATURE
WDW MARINA OFFER VOUCHER
1 PER ROOM [ 1 ]

FEATURE
RAWLINGS SPORTING GOODS OFFER
1 PER ROOM [ 1 ]

Any ideas on what these are?

And FYI for anyone wanting POR or POFQ. We couldnt get POFQ on the bounceback offer in May and I couldnt get it through the GP offer. But they are available thru the race dept booking number. It was slightly cheaper than the GP discount for our 8 nights due to the Oct days not being covered by the discount and only $150 than the bounceback offer would have been.

Carey - I'm interested in the WISH shirt, too.

I love that you've translated the remaining time to the marathon into runs. I have 45 training runs and a 10k race remaining in my plan. And about 50 dates with my foam roller!!

That is pretty much our plan for the day too. :)

No Princess for me (I wish I could go!). My family didn't get to have Christmas last year bc my DH was in Afghanistan. We've decided to make up for it this Christmas by spending 9 nights in Disney Dec 9-18! ...if I had unlimited vacation, I definitely would make the trip in January tho :)

Sorry no Princess, but sounds like you'll have a great time in Dec. I'm spoiled because I only live about 20 minutes from Disney.

Hi everyone!

Yes I DID get my long run in, however I overestimated how far an additional road around my mountain would be so instead of 10 miles, it's only 8 miles! But it is OMG hilly those last 2 miles and so quite different from my original 7 mile around-the-mountain route. According to my RunKeeper, it took me 90 minutes to complete 8 miles (just over 11 minutes/mile pace or average 5.25 mph speed) where I burned 970 calories and climbed a total of 1,258 feet. :cool2:

I mentioned a W&D WISH shirt on the WISH gear thread and, though I received friendly feedback, I didn't realize the WISH logo is trademarked and kinda tough to alter for specific events. I also discovered that the idea is to keep WISH gear non-specific so WISH people can find each other at any event.

SO... that being said, I think I might want a WISH shirt AS WELL AS a W&D specific shirt. I see this as good news because that means the color can be totally different from WISH gear and the graphics can be all specific to Wine & Dine. The only downside is it would be fun to still include WISH since this is a WISH board, and I don't know what sort of freedom I have. But all that aside, you any of you want a W&D specific shirt (exclusive to this thread, maybe) so that we can identify each other? I guess I wouldn't care so much about a W&D shirt except I really like race specific shirts because they are additional prizes for me to show off after the fact. Like my forest green 15K Shamrock Run shirt. Except I got absolutely bright-as-the-surface-of-the-sun neon yellow short sleeved tee shirt from the Friar Trot 10K I ran last month, and OMG is it a loud color. That shirt isn't so much a prize, in my eyes, but you can certainly see me coming on the road!

And...I would love if it said 5K & 1/2 Marathon since I am doing the 5K and DH is doing the 1/2. :rotfl:
