Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Now I'm really excited... I just completed an interview with Disney for a Professional Internship and one of my interviewers ran the Princess Half the first year it was offered! She said it was a lot of fun when she did it and I'm sure that it's still going to be just as fun!

Only 3 days of class for me... unfortunately I have a midterm as well as a paper review tomorrow, but after that it's all about the race .

Yeah! That's for sure! I have a two foot snow drift by the garage and another at the end of the driveway from the snowplow. Today was supposed to be my muscle relaxation day. Ha Ha Ha How about you?

Shoveled snow that was over my ankles last night before bed.
Let my dogs out this morning and they sank up to their chins. Reshoveled snow over my ankles.
Then went and shoveled out my mom, almost up to my knees.

At least it was some pretty good cardio. ;);)

Don't obsess too much about your pace. My first 5K was last Sept at the Mickey's Halloween 5K, and I unknowingly ran/walked it with a stress fracture so was in considerable pain. I crossed the finish line in 54 mins and some odd seconds, and believe me, I was NOT the last one crossing the line. I've been told, and my personal observation confirmed it at least for my race, that since it's an untimed fun run, they're not super vigilant with the sweeper van. And since the 5K isn't on any traffic roads that require closing and reopening, I'm betting this 5K will be the same way. Now, 16 min is obviously your goal, but if you have to walk slower or more than you'd like, it shouldn't make or break being able to finish. Hope this helps!

That's really good to know. I kept trying to reassure my mom that there will be a lot of people behind us, but since the website says the 16 min/mile pace that's what she believes. Since I'll stop for all the character pictures maybe my running to catch up with my mom will keep me from getting too stiff.

I signed up to walk it too- then was second guessing the brilliance of that move when I was pretty sore after my long walk on Friday. But in all the research (ie, googling and blog reading I can find!) it doesn't look like they care *that* much about the 5K racers. Especially since there are stroller pushers--- yeah, some will race it and be fast, but you can bet some will really be taking their time and going a bit slower than most walkers. I think we'll be ok. I don't plan on park touring after the 5K, so I figure I can put in a little exercise, get all the pictures I can, and if they haul me off the course--- so be it. I just want to go and have the pictures! I don't have the speed to do it during the half I fear.

We're planning on going to TL on Saturday after the race. I think the lazy river will be calling my name most of the day:cloud9:

We were actually pushing my nephews in their strollers yesterday, so that may be a reason that I was sore this morning. I didn't even think about it at first, so I feel a lot better now that I can possibly pinpoint the reason I'm sore. We're not pushing strollers for the 5k, so that should help us keep our pace without pushing so hard.

I had my last longish run today, and it went from being awful to awesome! I went to a park near me where I was planning to run two 3 mile loops for a total of 6 miles. I had not fueled well at all before the run and felt it immediately. After the first mile I was already thinking about stopping at 3 miles and going home, but right before I got back to my car I remembered I had a little airplane package of peanuts in my purse. I decided to eat those, along with a lonely piece of v-day chocolate and headed back out for the next 3 miles. The final 3 miles were 10x better than the first, and I'm so glad I made myself keep running. I would have been so discouraged going into the race if my last long run was a total bust.

I skipped my run Sunday, thinking that since I had today off I would run today. I skipped today also...but I am heading to the pool tonight.
I have finished my outfit for the run, and my mom is making me a bow sometime this week. It didn't turn out exactly how I planned, but I hope the idea comes through:

Looks like we are going to have great weather this weekend! I'm going to go ahead and take credit as I have about 10 hand warmers, a large blanket and a sweater packed to take with me! I managed to get a great deal on the blanket, Target had all their Valentines days stuff at 75% off, so I got two blankets (that look nothing like Valentines to me) for 2.50 each!

My schedule for the next week is: Monday-swimming, Tuesday-run, Wednesday-swimming, Thursday-run, Friday-fly to FL, Sat.-hang out in Disney!!!, Sun-run 13.1 miles, hang out in MK, and fly home.
Hopefully the work week goes by quickly!

Well, I don't leave until Friday evening, but I've already started packing. I have a busy week, so it's best if I do what I can now and just add as I remember things throughout the week. Race day shoes and outfit are packed in the carryon...which means it is ON now! :woohoo:

Safe travels and good luck to everyone as you all start to head to FL this week!!!

Looking at the weather has me thinking about taking the throw away clothes out of my bag. Do you think that will jinx the awesome looking forecast?

I don't know if this is true for the WDW races since this will be my first one at WDW, but at Disneyland they had 2 pins for the race. They had the pin you could ONLY order online. So if you're seeing info about that one being sold out it might actually be that you could only buy it online so they only made enough for the people who pre-ordered them. They also had pins at the expo. They were in containers by the checkout area where you would buy the official jackets and what not. They had plenty of those when I was at the DL Half... So, you could get lucky and they could have a different pin to buy at the expo!

Thanks for the info. I will keep my eye out!!

Only a few days left

I was thinking the same thing...doesn't look like I'm gonig to need that fuzzy robe I bought to keep me toasty before the race...and I could sure use the space in my suitcase! I haven't packed it yet...I think I'll wait for Thursday to make a final decision on that one, but it's not looking like I'm going to need it...which I don't mind, because it's a really soft robe...I wouldn't mind keeping it!

We were suppose to get an inch or so of snow tonight, and so far we have about 4. I do not like the treadmill, but I guess I'll have to use it tomorrow because I want to stay on schedule this week. I just got back from a conference in Tamps last night and it was so nice to run in warm weather along the bay. Atleast we will be running in Disney soon!

I've been following along on here for awhile. I just wanted to remind everyone if you are going to be in the area on Thursday there is a shuttle launch scheduled to 450p. If it's a nice day you should be able to see the shuttle from Disney.

No snow here, but it was 35 degrees colder for my run today than it was for my 5k walk yesterday. I can't wait to be in warm weather!

We arrived at Orlando just past midnight this morning :headache:, flight delayed thanks to snow in Toronto so didn't get to bed until 3am this morning and we were up early to do some Outlet shopping and DTD....OMG the weather is HOT! I didn't pack shorts, just long pants and capri (minus my running wear) so if the weather stays the same, keep the throw away clothes at home.
BTW the Disney Outlet here has alot of clothes from the Marathon Weekend, incase anyone is interested!

It has been rather hot here the last week and will continue to be hot here all week, so shorts would be a great idea. But this weather is going to be great for running and most of my training has been in rather warmer weather. Crowds here have been rather high this past weekend with it being Presidents Day weekend. Travel safely down here and see you all at the expo or the race! :goodvibes

I'm pretty sure I am going to be the minority but I was hoping for cooler weather!! I'm from South Florida and was hoping for some cooler temps!! Better not forget that sunblock! :cool2:

We are going to watch the launch from the free Titusville area!
We are driving from Atlanta Thursday morning, watching the launch, and then driving to Disney for check-in and dinner.
Shuttle launch, half marathon, princesses, my DD(5)'s birthday. What more could I want!
