Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Weight I hate that issue :headache:

I was 100 lbs last year, then I started running and training hard and I gained 10 lbs, I'm 110 lbs and it hasn't moved in a year. I think its all the muscles in my legs, you can really see it when I run.....muscle is heavy ;) I would love to be back at 100 lbs but my body has really changed since I started running! I guess I now have a runners body

The left half of my body is over 100 lbs! :)

I am 5'8", though, so if I actually did weigh 100 lbs I would be close to hospitalization.

When I was a lot more serious about running, last year, I lost over 40 lbs between Jan and July of last year while training. Business travel, 3 months of on-the-bench time due to injury, and holidays has sadly put more than a bit back on.

I think I've lost maybe 10 lbs since I started running a year ago. I definitely have toned up a bunch. I used to hate running outside without long pants on when it started getting warm because I thought I looked horrible. Now I feel a million times more confident, and hate having to bundle up to go out and run. I definitely have lost inches. People probably think I'm over doing the belted sweater look this winter, but will all my sweaters being too big now, it was cheaper for me to go buy a few wide belts to wear instead of buy smaller clothes.:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Good thing the belted sweater is in style ;)

I have to say, since I started running my calves never looked better! Sad thing is with my bad PF feet, i have to wear sensible shoes...so not sexy heels.:lmao:

Oh well.

Go for wedges. You can get the height (and even sexy-strappy models) with more stability.

Total with taxes and fees $388 :headache: Not the best price I've ever paid, but I do feel better now that I have my resort and my flight booked!! Plus I am a mommy of a 5 and 2 year old going on a vacation with a girlfriend!!!! :woohoo: How cool is that????

-nat

Sorry there wasn't a better deal, but GIRLS TRIP!!!!! Very cool! You're going to have a blast!!

I'm back from the surgery center. Everything went well. I'm a little sore but that is to be expected. I can resume running this weekend!

This is such great news!! Wishing you a speedy recovery! :goodvibes

I have a question regarding spectators. I know there are viewing spots friends/family can watch their runners from for free, but there's also the more exclusive cheersquad packages that you have to pay for. So does anybody think it's worth it to pay for the cheersquad or are the free viewing spots convenient enough? My BF is going to be out there alone but we're on a budget so we will avoid any expense we can. Thanks in advance :)

There are several places your BF can see you. You need to figure how face to run so that he can be at those spots. For example, last year my DD watched. She had run the course the year before so she knew it. It will help if your DF know the course and transportation routes. Also know your corral...you will find that out when you pick up your bib. I was in corral b and was ready to run a 9-10 min pace, so she got to the MK at 6. She had to take the last bus from the host hotel to Epcot to catch the monorail to MK. Depending on how fast you run, he can take the monorail back to the TTC and watch mear the Poly then back on the monorail to Epcot. He can see you before your enter he park and at the finish.

Others can probably help here. My DD saw me on Main Street then moved up Main Street and saw me come through the castle and then at the finish.

I took the plunge. Southwest on Friday non-stop from Chicago to Orlando $255!! :scared1: I was being pick though... I wanted an early non-stop flight. Airtran - non-stop from Orlando to Chicago on Monday $107. :thumbsup2

:cheer2: Yay! Glad you got your airfare booked. I know that it helps not to have that to stress over any more.

I'm also going without kids... enjoy your mommy vacation!

I just realised today, that I have never run in the morning. All of my focus has been on how I was going to get up that early for the princess and somehow I hadn't thought about practicing the running part first thing after waking up in the AM. I work nights (12 hour overnights) and the only time I see 4AM is in the middle of my shift.

So today I took my kid to school, came home and ate my pre race breakfast (pbj and a glass of milk) with every intention of letting is sit for an hour and then going for a run. Right now - one hour later- I am on the computer not on the treadmill and I feel so sick to my stomache.

I have run an hour after getting up before but those were days that I slept during the day and woke up around 3 pm. I really didn't think that sleeping at night and running first thing would be that differant.

Hmmm, I guess I'm gonna go power through a run now. Any other night shifters out there? Any suggestions? What have you tried in relation to time of day for runs? I know we are all unique and what works for one will not work for all but I'd like imput. I was just trying to practice so that I "do nothing differant" on race day.

Good luck rnronda.....I generally run in the mornings and do notice a difference if I do it later in the day. No advice, but you will be fine I bet!

Kind of a bummer day here, I did 3 miles and foot was so sore at the end....heel was hurting yesterday also. I went to PT today and had a good cry....I just don't know if I will be able to finish and accepting that is a bummer. When I started talking to her about my run, I burst into tears. I am going to try though, that is all I can do. My PT was so sweet, she said, you know for trying you deserve a medal and even if you get picked up by the van, maybe its because there is someone on that van that needs to meet you. True, I am not planning on quitting, but I know I have to be ready if it gets too painful. I had a very nice talk with the hubs this morning also and he was great. I guess I never thought my training would be like this and its hard.

So sorry to be a downer, you guys are so great at your positive outlook....lay it on us! :thumbsup2

Anyhoo, I also tripped today and am so lucky I didn't hurt myself and also lucky it was so cold this morning I had gloves and tights on, so didn't scrape up my hands and knees.

How are you princesses doing in the cold blizzard regions? I don't want to complain - as the fact you guys keep training on the treadmill and inside track blows me away with inspiration.

Don't forget to get your calf stretching in! ;) Keep on going!

Well, since you asked....this princess could not take it any more and decided that if she stucck to quiet back roads that had been half-decently plowed, she would be okay. And then she oh so gracefully and daintily fell on her royal butt.

Back to the treadmill for me tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is doing well and staying safe and warm. And a special helping of quick healing pixie dust for everyone ailing and struggling right now. :wizard:

I found an article on the internet this morning about how to prevent running injuries. It gives a description of simple stretches to do before running and then there is a brief clip with a demonstration. I thought with all our injuries lately it might be helpful.

Thanks! These are fun to try. I found some helpful videos on Lance Armstrong's website also. Livestrong.com

Have you noticed how just tapping your toes while sitting strengthens the muscles around your shins?

Ran 5 yesterday. Did well. Foot hurt a little bit, so I got a couple of foot massages out of my husband. :) Did a lot of stretching.

5 today and 8-9 on Sunday. (treadmill)

I liked the song "When the going gets tough, the tough get going"

I pray my body holds up under all of this stress.

SaySay- You are a tough athlete that has suffered a setback. You will get better! I will pray for you! I pray that your foot will feel great on race day and you'll will walk superfast and get that medal! Amen

My PT was so sweet, she said, you know for trying you deserve a medal and even if you get picked up by the van, maybe its because there is someone on that van that needs to meet you!

I firmly believe this. Every interaction is a chance to build someone up--or tear them down. I usually find if I can encourage someone, I very quickly get that back 2 or 3 times over from the next person I encounter.

I believe that you would be a blessing to everyone you meet.

That said, there is still time to train/improve and you are still trying. Don't give up. It's okay to consider all of the possible outcomes but practice positive visualization and building yourself up, not tearing yourself down.

Whatever happens on race day, this will be a memorable experience. It will teach each of us something, change us in some way. That's priceless.

 Hugs to you, Princess. I am sorry training is a bumpy road for you, but I am so proud of your perseverance, courage, and your compassion toward everyone on the board. Your inner Princess shines through in every post. Thank you for that. :flower3:

ughhh...the kids and I have had the flu (type A) and I haven't run since Monday... feeling sorry for myself and reaaaally needed to get a long run in at some point! I haven't gotten past 8 mi yet and my partner going to the race w/ me has walking pneumonia! OMG we better be back in gear soon. We are both FREAKING out that we are going to end up suffering on race day. Only 3 weeks to go!! AAAAAAAACK!!!!

THANK YOU ALL!

Your super pixie dust and kinds words, thoughts and prayers are working. I got a new attitude today and have a new plan which should be easier on my feet to promote the healing I need. I actually added the 80's classic tune by Ms Patti Labelle, New Attitude on my ipod! :cool1:

Darn this setback, but hey I am going to Disney World with some fun ladies. Even the hubs said, hey there is always next year! Wow he is thinking ahead!

While this certainly isn't the training I had imagined or hoped for, oh well, it is what it is. This has been one interesting journey and hey, it will be fun to figure out my final destination come race day, hopefully its at the finish!

So sorry for you sick princesses! Just do what you can. I am sure with as far as you have trainined, you can finish. Try not to stress about it, yeah SO easy for me to say! :lmao:

I really appreciate you all!

Only had time for 4 miles today and it was the best 4 miles EVER!!! I ran 90% of it and I just feel so strong today.
Wish I had time to do more today, cause I totally could have!!!

Can't wait for the 1/2 marathon!! It's going to be so much fun!

Did my 10 miles today. Was sooooo sloooowwww!! I don't know why. Could it have been the rain, the wind chill factor of 31 degrees or the 20 mile per hour winds?? When I got home, I was perspriring, had taken off a couple of layers while out.

But then I got under some covers and hadn't felt this cold in many winters. I mentioned it to my husband. He said that could be one of the reasons why I was slow. My muscles were cold and cold muscles don't work very well. Because of the weather, there was very little outside to look at and keep me engaged. However, I did see my breath. You would be surprised at how many different ways one can entertain oneself by trying to see one's breath. Can you make a circle?? Can you look like you're smoking a cigarette?? How big a cloud can you make?? At ten miles, I was pretty much grasping at any entertainment straws! Good long training walks/runs to everyone this week-end. Just remember Paxatawney Phil did not see his shadow. It will be an early spring!
