Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I'm on day 2 of the flu and feel like I am going to die! It has made the rounds through our home and my youngest son is the onlynone who hast gotten it yet.

Question....for the last 2-3 weeks I have been waking up in the middle of the night with a Charley horse in one or both calves!any one have any ideas why?? Nothing worse than being woken up from a dead sleep with a charley horse!!

Wrong quote back there. Ha Ha Get better!! God bless you and your family.

I'm sending lots of Pixie Dust to those of y'all who are fighting sickness! I hope you all feel better soon!:wizard:

Geez, did anyone get the flu vaccine?? I got it months ago. It would be horrible to get the flu without having had the vaccine.

I wonder how soon a person would recover if they had the vaccine?

 Add me to the roster of folks down with the flu.

My chest hurts, my ears hurt and I can't stay awake, except for when I'm coughing. Ugh!

I'm so grumpy.

I was a victim of the dreaded flu last week too!!! OMG it was like being hit by a mac truck! It lasted a full 7 days for me (the dizziness hung around all day yesterday...and day 8 was today). SO, today I tried to run...succeeded for about 4 miles and then decided I was being way too ambitious. :confused3
Back to the grind on Monday. The flu has been HORRID the past couple of weeks. My only advice is to REST. Sit on your behind and rest rest rest. The longer you sleep and lounge, the faster you will get better and avoid getting bronchitis or pneumonia.:grouphug:

Here's a pic I took from last year of everything that was included--minus the bib and shirt of course. It may be hard to see, but there was a pair of cute colored socks, some eye drops, a disposable camera, and a Luna bar, I think.

Oh, wow! That was a nice bag of goodies!!!

Those bibs look huge. Are we permitted to fold the top down so just the number shows or is there some sort of timing device stuck to the back? It is going to interfere and clash with my outfit!

I need to thank everyone here. You've officially made me into a runner.

A few months ago, I was just browsing the WISH forums, taking a break from my trip planning. And knowing that I probably should take part in some discussions because I've gotten quite fluffy over the years.;) I started reading the Princess thread, and I had never heard of races in Disney before. I was a 6 time C25K dropout. I thought this sounded like a fun way to get to Disney on my own. A huge thank you to elbowglitter, who informed me of Team in Training. Otherwise there's no way I could have afforded this race.

I'll admit, I let lots of weeks slip where I didn't train. And then it came time for recommittment to Team in Training. Should I do it or not? I had barely raised any money, barely put one foot in front of the other, and was generally just not ready. I signed it anyway. I figured that would force my hand.

And it did. I'm proud to say that I've officially raised my minimum for Team in Training: $2400. I've actually raised more than that. Last weekend I ran 10 miles. When I first started, I couldn't run a minute. But the best part: I look forward to running. I always wanted to be a runner, to be someone who enjoyed it and found it an easy way to de-stress. And I've gotten there. Last night I was at work browsing the internet, looking for races so I could do one a month to keep up my training. And that's when I knew, the running bug has officially hit me. Thank you all so much for the inspiration!!!

Were the mesh bags the bags you checked during the race last year? I'm bummed because I noticed on the final race instructions they said that we had to check our clear plastic bag provided at the expo. I wonder if that means we won't get the mesh bags. At wine and dine, we just got the clear bags, and no mesh bags.

They switched the January Half from a mesh bag to a clear plastic bag, too. I'm sure it's cheaper for them. Bummer for us.

The January Half bib was super tall like that this year. Carissa and I folded them almost in half and pinned them on. They use that orange shoe timer thing (sorry, can't remember the technical name) so folding the bib doesn't interfere with anything.

The tag for timing goes on your shoe, so I guess it would be fine to fold it over. I'm thinking to doing the same thing. Just make sure you can show your corral letter easily.

The team in training thing isn't for me, but last year I was wearing purple so I got a lot of support from their trainers it was great :) They really did give me an extra boost in the tough spots. Congrats on raising your money, and on being ready in only a few months. That is very impressive!:thumbsup2 I took a full year for my first one!

thanks liz and swmr. One half i did recently had a tag on the shoe and bib and I couldn't remember if it was wine and dine or not. think it might have been philly. glad i can fold it! It's soooo big!

OMG the flu!!! How horrible and charlie horses too?! Massages and stretching help me. I do eat bananas almost daily. I like them in protien drinks.

I went to Panera bread, Meijer and Target for my mother and father today. I was freaking that I would catch something and washed my hands as soon as I could. lol

Pray for good health! Pray for fast recovery of my friends here!! :wizard:There , that might help.

Thanks!! Have started eating bananas like crazy. I knew the flu was coming because it was making the rounds through my house but I was praying it would skip right over me...Guess I'm not that lucky! :confused3

No flu shot for me. :sad2: Right now, I'm wishing I had gotten one!!

It sounds like you had a pretty bad case of it! I am hoping mine doesn't last that long. I thought I was going to "attempt" to run today but I woke up to 50 degree weather and rain!! I changed my mind REAL quick!! Looke like I will bedoingthis instead -----► :surfweb:

That is a bummer. You'd think with the price we pay to run they wouldn't be cheap on the goody bags!

ITA... this is one expensive race.

the race is SOLD OUT!

someone on FB said they called last week and there were going to be 17,000 ish runners. That's a lot more than last year, right? But still less than Jan by 10K... right?

Someone PMed me and said they had bib number 16,980something... so sounds like there is for sure some higher bibs out there.

Anyone doing the 5K on Sat? I am toying with the idea- it honestly looks like a fun race. And it's "only" 3 miles, so it can't be terrible to do that the day before the race, right? I am only trying to finish the half in 3:30, not going for any speed record... those that are seasoned runners, is this a totally bad idea to do the 5K the day before my first half?

On training walks now- 3-4 miles is "nothing" to me, but I don't usually follow a 3-4 mile day with a long walk (I always put a rest day in there)

thoughts?

I just did my last longish run before the race, I ran 7.75 miles today in an hour and 15 minutes, it was chilly when I started but warmed up to the weather. I'm sure most of you would love the weather here of mid 40s and sunny at start and mid 50s when I finished. I live right across the street from WDW, and weather has been great for running lately, not too hot or cold. See you all in two weeks!

I got a vaccine back in the fall....I am a preschool asst teacher and am exposed to who knows what with all those runny noses.

my fever broke this morning but still feel weak and tired. Resting as much as possible this weekend. I have zero energy even been too tired to stretch. Maybe later.

I just did my last long training run!

It was a brisk 20 degrees, but sunny! It was beautiful to see the sunshine sparkle against all the snow. I can say that I could have done my run a liitle better. There was a "Love 2 Run" Valentine's race that I wanted to do today. So I did an 8-mile training run, quickly signed up for the race, stood around for about 15 minutes, then ran the 4-mile race. That 15 minute lag time was my killer. There are times when I am not the brightest bulb...but...I finished it and got a cute t-shirt in the bargain. :lovestruc

Come on taper! And warmer temps this week!

Good luck on all your runs this weekend everyone!

I am also doing the 5K on Saturday, it will be a great warm up for the half the next day and I am running the 5K with my daughter so it will be priceless :lovestruc

Wow that's alot of runners....should be an awesome day :thumbsup2

Delurking to say good luck to all you wonderful princesses!!! You have all been such an inspiration! I have started training for the 2012 princess and it has been amazing to read this thread and see how far everyone has come!

Best of luck on race day!!!!! :thumbsup2

I thought about it...briefly..then I realized it would mean waking up really early 2 days in a row in addition to a late night flight the day before.

I'm doing the 5k on Saturday, but I'm walking it with me mom. I plan to stop for all the character pictures no matter how long the line is, so the only running I'll do during the race will be to catch up to my mom if she doesn't stop for the pictures with me. I'm hoping there are a lot of character repeats on Sunday so I don't have to spend as much time taking pictures during the 1/2.
