This has nothing to do with the Princess Half but I had to share it here. My 15 yr old son joined the cross country team at his high school last Wednesday. Today was his first meet. He ran 3.2 miles in 31 minutes!! :worship:  yes, I know he is a teenage boy but he has never run anywhere except from his bedroom to the kitchen to get food and that was only because he didn't want to die in his video game. I am so proud of him!! :thumbsup2. :cheer2:He says he loves cross country and can't wait until the next meet- where he will bet going up against a close friend! Ok, I'm done!! Thanks for, listening! :)

sabnrob I think that it is great your son got out there and didi it. it is difficult for a teen to do something new and this is a great something new that he can do more many years ahead.

good for him!!! i did cross country as a senior in high school but i really slacked off and just did it because my parents made me  i think it's SO great that he's into it now. i have friends for HS now that ran all four years and are STILL running. i wish i had started earlier because it seems that those people that started earlier made it become part of their lives, not just a "ugh i have to run" sort of thing. good for him!! and that time is AMAZING!!!!

I just signed up for a 5K Saturday. I haven't officially done a race in 2 years and I am getting nervous thinking about my half. I think it will be good for me getting a race in before then.

But.....this pushes my long run to Sunday again. I don't think I should run a 5K in the morning and try to get my 11-12 mile run in later in the day.

yeah, maybe you can just keep running? or push the 11-12 miler to the next week since you'll exert alot of energy being in a race? i know i ran much harder when i did my race last weekend.

Has anyone answered you question about Team in Training yet? I am participating in my fourth season with them right now. In order to get a website to fundraise you need to contact your local chapter. Not every chapter goes to the Princess. Mine does the races in January.

I think that all of the chapters in Florida will do that race though.

i just looked up team in training and it doesn't look like i can just raise money for them for the princess race. BUT, i didn't contact the local chapter so i really need to do that. i did look up that firstgiving.com site and it looks like i can start my own page which is pretty neat. i have to see if i can raise $ for the lukemia and lymphoma society. worse comes to worse i can just ask my friends and family to just make a donation to the foundation online. i mean, all that's important is the money gets there, doesn't matter HOW, right? though it would be nice to see a site or something that says that i'm doing it - just for my own motivation!

5 miles at 10:27. No pain, tiny bit sore. I have been applying ice and Arnicare cream, and the knee seems to want to run!

amazing time! you rock! you are going to kick some butt in philly. keep icing and take it easy til the race!

Oh good grief, I just looked at my top ticker and almost threw up.

:scared1:

 you are so funny. and i say funny because you are totally going to kill it! i mean, hello! have you read your spark blog?? i have and you knock it out of the park each time! can't wait to hear all about your race!

That is really great. I think it's so important for kids to develop these kinds of habits and have these kinds of positive experiences with exercise. This will give him a tool to use for the rest of his life in dealing with stress, fitness, self-confidence, etc. :cheer2:

You could just keep running after you hit the finish line.

In all seriousness, this is a great idea; that is after you get past the vision of Forest running through the end zone). I have run a few 5 ks where I went through the finish chute, grabbed a water and headed off to complete a longer run. Since you are running an event, cut you total miles back some. Your training goal is 11-12 so taking the 3 from the race off leaves and additional 8-9. I would cut that back to 7-8 to account for the faster than training pace of the first 3 miles. If you come up on 6 and feel like bailing, that would still be ok.

That is awesome! One of the kids I use to babysitt for, who is now in 8th grade joined her school cross country team and loves it!

I actually gave that some thought.

Hmm...that's food for thought. It's a local event and I thought about hanging out and socializing a bit after the event, but I'd like to get my long run in too. Decisions, decisions.

Joan4mickey-DumboBuddy-Mamcrush & Jeter02 (don't know how to do multiple quotes )--Thanks for the kind words! I am so proud of him!! :woohoo:

We have decided we are going to do the Tamarac Turkey Trot which is a 5K on Thanksgiving morning. I'm sure he will be able to finish it WAY faster than I can but it will be be nice to have someone to do this with!

Have a great day!! :)

I know there was talk about the road id in this thread before so I thought I'd come on here and share. I got myself a road id from them and they just sent me this email with a discount and I thought I'd share it here. The discount code is ThanksMegan838349 and it's good for $1 off and can be used 20 times in the next 30 days. Here's the website.

I know it's not a huge discount but if you were thinking about it $1 off is better then nothing and I think if you pick the regular ground shipping then shipping is free.

Thought I'd pass this along to all my fellow Princess runners.

alright ladies i know we have some half-marathons going on this weekend! can't wait to hear all about the races! have a great time! woot!!!

we leave for disney on sunday! MUST try to get some runs in! i will do a long run tomorrow at home. i won't do any long runs at disney because that's just crazy (for me, at least) but i will try to get some short runs in early in the am a few times while there.

Thanks poppinspal! I plan to order this evening.

To everyone: My DD9 and I are in a recreational race this Sunday. It will be my first race. I can't believe how nervous I am; I can only imagine how anxious I would be if it were a competitive race.

Wishing you all safe travels, fast races, and no injuries this weekend!

You will have so much fun and you will relax the moment you get there. The informal races make me nervous beforehand but when I get there and realize how casual they are as opposed to Disney, I learn to have fun and not let my competitive side out. :) Good Luck!
