Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while. We are getting so excited for the DL half and completing the C2C challenge! DH called and got us Blue Bayou ressies for dinner the night of the half marathon...motivation to keep walking! :-) We are staying at the HoJo Plaza. I had toyed with getting a shuttle, but I actually got a mid-sized car from Hertz through priceline for $127.33 ($19/day +taxes) total for 6 days. Happy to have more flexibility.

My 9 mile run last week felt great! I went out this morning, intending to do 10, but the heat and humidity were almost intollerable at 645am. My run was cut short with early morning thunderstorms rolling in. I managed to get 4 miles in. My last mile was running up and down my street. I am still further along in my training than I was for the WDW half marathon I completed in January. I surprised myself getting 2 runs in on our vacation last week...1 workout at the hotel, and another on the ship.

3 weeks and 1 day until we get on a plane heading for CA.

With short trip and coming across country, you have to do parks on Sat. Just try to do things where you can sit as much as you can and avoid standing in long lines. Use Fast Passes when you can. Just make sure you get an early night for race morning!

See you in 4 weeks :)

I've heard great things about a software program called Ride Max. I think it's like $14 & it "maps" out your day according to how busy the park is supposed to be.

Has there been any sort of meet organized over race weekend? I can't remember if it's already been talked about in this thread...would love to meet some of you and say hello if it worked into my schedule for the weekend!

would LOVE to hook up with other disney running enthusiasts too!

Just because I'm bored and curious, I took a look at the current conditions in Anaheim on weather.com...it's 79 degrees there right now and sunny and was around 61 or so this morning...I'm sooooo jealous! I really hope that's what we get for the race...coming from 100+ temps, I'll probably feel like an Olympian! :lmao:

the past couple of years race day has been hot!

So this is my first race. In regards to the corrals...is it every man for themselves once they get in the corral or are the corrals broken down even more? If someone has a middle #, can they go to the front of their corral?

total free for all... i've even moved corrals to run with friends with no penalty.

Has anyone used this Chrono B Tag at a race before? The Disney races here in Florida have always used the D Tag which attaches to your shoe.

The B Tag is part of your bib and seems to have specific placement instructions which may interfere with some clothing items, etc. I never pin all four corners of my bib, but I guess I will have to this time.

sounds too technical for me!!!

Getting a little frustrated. I'm up to 6 miles in my long runs right now and I'm noticing twinging in my knee. I've been icing after runs and I'm starting to work on longer rolling out sessions but I'm worried if I push it I'll do more damage than good. It's noticeable in stairs and sitting down/standing up motions but not much with walking motions. I've taken yesterday to rest it (when it started to hurt) and will be doing upper body weights today to avoid leg pressure but tomorrow is my next scheduled maintenance run so I'm nervous if it will be good enough by then. :confused3

have you tried KT Tape? I swear that stuff is magical. I wouldn't be able to run at all without it.

Please let me know if there will be a Dis Meet during the 1/2 marathon weekend. This is our first trip to Disneyland ---we are so excited. Plus the 3 runners are earning the coast to coast medals. We did the Princess 1/2 in Feb and had a blast. We are considering the Donald 1/2 in Feb --- the medal is so cute!

Thanks for the info on the corrals!

I had a set back with training this week. I tried some new balance shoes on Sunday and they gave me shin splints. It was a dumb move and now I'm paying for it. Hopefully I'm better by Friday morning to get a run in.

I also bought some chomps to try before I try them race day.

I love the Watermelon flavor. It is like candy. I definitely love Gu Chomps for the time we are waiting in the corrals. Not as great when you are running but I go with the Pineapple Gu Roctane. Another tastes like Candy flavor! Yum!

I hope your shin splints get better! Ouch!

I have heard it is a miracle worker, but I do not know how to use it. Any suggestions?

They have some videos on their webpage, and some good pictures on their facebook page. I use it for my knee, I had to combine two applications to help with my pain. It has helped a lot though, and gets me through my runs while I'm working on strengthing my knee to prevent future issues.

If you do use it, apply it the day before your run so it has a chance to adhear.

It sounds like your in pretty good shape. I would still try to get at least one 10 miler in before the race. There's still plenty on time. Hopefully you can find a cool morning to get it in.

They do check corral placements, but I'm not sure how great they are. Last year at the DL 1/2 I did hear them telling people they had to go to their correct corral. You're able to move BACK corrals (so if you're in A you can go in B or C), but you can't move up corrals (C to B or A).

Still, people manage to move up corrals to run with friends. There are simply too many people to keep track of everyone. Just don't be surprised if they don't always let you move up.

I had a completely different experience. They didn't check corrals one bit. They told people to go to their corrals, but I saw no bib checking whatsoever. The only race I have been in at Disney where they were sticklers about it was the Princess. They really did look at bib's a couple years ago...granted it could have just been the volunteer. I didn't see anyone asking to move so come race morning, do whatever you want. I highly doubt anyone is going to turn you in for hopping corrals.
