Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Seeing as it's up to 93% today (from 90 yesterday), I'm going to register for it now and figure out the travel details after.

I'm having difficulty with shirt sizes. I'm trying to figure out where their measurements are measuring. The chest and sleeve length are confusing me the most. It says it's a short sleeve shirt but the length of a small is 33? I'm sure I'm misunderstanding so if anyone has guidance, that'd be great. I went for a medium women's cut at the Princess and it was a little loose. :confused3

I'm sure there was a large bump from the sign ups at the Princess expo. They may also put a false ceiling on their numbers. I'm sure the marketing department will say it looks better to sell out and 'find more room' than to not sell out until just before the race.

off topic question, sorry...but how do you make all your cute stuff show up in your signature when you post? I have what you can see below...signature line and a pic, but I also added 2 basic, normal-sized tickers yesterday and they won't show up. When I go to edit or preview the signature they are there, just can never see them in a post. :confused3

I wasn't sure what to order either...unfortunately it's a unisex shirt for this race, so since I'm only 5' it will most likely hang to my knees  I got a large at the Princess and it fit perfectly, so I ordered medium for the DL race. If a medium women's was loose on you, you might want to get at least a small for this one. When they say the length is 33, I'm assuming 33 inches from the top-most part of shirt to the bottom hem. I probably won't be able to wear it anyway though...unisex shirts won't be cut to accomodate a woman's chest and "junk in the trunk" :rotfl:

Oooh, I hadn't thought it was from the top to the hem. I guessed since it's unisexy (yes I totally made that word up) the chest accommodations wouldn't be as forgiving as at the Princess. :lmao:

Given that they don't do waiting lists for the Disney races, I highly doubt that there's a false ceiling. When a race is sold out, it's sold out. If there's any wiggle room, it could be in the number of elites allowed.

I highly suspect it's unisex sizing on the shirts since the DL half is in no way promoted more strongly towards women. Marathon Weekend shirts were unisex which is just fine with me. I HATE women's cut shirts. Not everyone likes form-fitting. EW!

Seriously? You guys think women's cut shirts are BETTER in the chest? You all must be TINY! I HATE women's cut shirts, and and race that tries to go to BOTH will have another thing coming if they think I'm taking a women's cut without a fight. Yet another reason for me to avoid the Princess I suppose.

My guess is there is either an enter or line break after your pic. If you can see it in your preview, the coding is probably correct.

lol Beth, like I said, the M was loose fitting so of course it fit fine in the chest. I own a total of two tech shirts (counting the Princess one) and the other one has the arm holes stretching. I've just never used a unisex shirt before so I dunno if those are any better. I have seen my DBF's tech shirts and they're broader in the chest width but since they aren't unisex I wasn't sure if that would hold true here.

I'm a pretty full C so not tiny, but definitely prefer women's cut shirts...and I hate for them to be form fitting too so usually just order a bigger size. Women's cut shirts are just proportioned for me better because I'm short and curvy. Unisex shirts are always way too narrow, which makes them fit very tight in the hips and over the bum, and always way too long...at least for a 5 foot "tall" person :) I thought the Princess shirts were great (and I was worried because they were Champion and Champion tends to run very small and tight on me)...it also helped that they were cut with a v-neck...that helps to fit more in the chest.

I'm trying to look up the Champion shirts on their website so I can get an idea of how they look and sit but with so many different styles it's hard to know which one is closest to the ones runDisney will use. I guess I'll just go with a small and hope for the best. My DBF is thinking of signing up and I have no clue what size he should get.

I wouldn't fret too much over it! I think I remember someone posting a suggestion a while back for the Princess that if you get the shirt and are unhappy with the size you can hang around the tables where they are given out for others that don't like the size they received and possibly trade with someone. Don't forget there will be an official merchandise area at the expo for you to purchase other shirts from the race too...and you can try those on for fit!

Even worse. Sadly, even with over 100 pounds total of weight loss, I'm still a DD (why can't mine be mostly fat???), and the LAST thing I want is a form-fitting v-neck shirt. Just show it all off there? No thank you. Plus thanks to the oversized chest, most women's sizing is too small anyway - even an XL is tight. And I've yet to see a women's-cut shirt that goes over the hips. Most stop at the top of my jeans.

Yeah...no need for me to do the Princess until they get realistic about shirts.

lol Beth.

Well I finally did it and registered! I'm so nervous again but I figure it's 150 to save my spot and I have months to prep for it. I really want that Coast-2-Coast medal!

Oh my gosh!! Those are the funniest posts I think I have ever read!! I 100% completely get and feel exactly what you are talking about. :goodvibes I can never fit in the women's cut shirts even the XL's. Not only is the cut weird, if you have a big chest, it pulls up on the length so even if you could fit it over your chest, it shortens the length. I was really bummed last year when I ran the SF 1/2 Marathon b/c even though I selected Men's XL, they gave me a Women's and I couldn't fit in it and I loved the back design.

Anyways, the fit for DL is unisex. I would definitely size down 1 the women's size that the princess gave out. I get an XL and it works for me. I do remember that last year's shirt seemed a little thicker/heavier than the past couple of years. I don't know why it just did. And color wise seems to be alternating from a various blue and white. I know the 2nd year was navy short sleeve, 3rd year was white long sleeve, 4th~ I can't remember, and last year was a bright blue short sleeve.

Ok so now that I'm registered I need to start thinking about flights...what is the best airport to fly into?

When we go to DL we like flying into Orange County/John Wayne airport. LAX is just such a nightmare. Usually costs a touch more to fly in to Orange cty but to me it is worth it!

We fly into SNA as well and love it...such a small, easy airport and not crazy-crowded. Don't know if you plan to rent a car, but if not, then the little more you will pay to fly into SNA vs. LAX you'll recoup on cheaper shuttle services to your hotel since it's soooo much closer to the DL area. For less hassle, it's totally worth it to me. But if the fares were drastically cheaper into LAX, I might consider it. The last two years though, we waited and were diligent about checking fares ALL THE TIME and it paid off...eventually a good deal to SNA came around and we pounced on it!

Thanks!!! I probably won't rent a car, so it's good to know the shuttle fair will make up for an increase in cost. I'll keep an eye on flight price, although I really have no idea what a good price would be.

I just set up farewatcher through Travelocity and get the e-mails. A good price would be under the $300 mark for flying into Orange County even from your area. It looks like the flexible fare search for most cities is staying under that mark (but the search is only until June at this point) so you should be in good shape. Just don't book through Travelocity. :)

We flew from ATL to SNA last year and ended up paying a little over $300 because people in my family don't like to wait a bit and take a chance to get good fares! The week after we booked, it went down to $250. Oh well...
