Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Thank you both for the response. I'll probably try to make the corral change at the expo. Just to be "legit"!

I was thinking about this during my run yesterday...if everyone has 3.5 hours from when the last person crosses the finish line - those in the front have more opportunity than those in the back. Do they do a wave start?

You're right...the further away you are from the back where the sweepers start, the more of an advantage you have if you're worried about being swept. This will be my first time running the DL half, but if it's set up like the Princess was, after corral A is sent off (with fireworks!), corral B is walked up to the start line and sent off 5 or 6 minutes later (more fireworks!), and so on for the rest of the corrals. Depending on the number of corrals, people in corral A could have a 30 minute jump on the sweepers!

Just because I'm bored and curious, I took a look at the current conditions in Anaheim on weather.com...it's 79 degrees there right now and sunny and was around 61 or so this morning...I'm sooooo jealous! I really hope that's what we get for the race...coming from 100+ temps, I'll probably feel like an Olympian! :lmao:

I'm "treating" myself to a treadmill run tonight. I just couldn't bear the thought of 5 miles out there today...they're saying it's like 103 or something. I'm worried everyone else has the same idea though which will make it hard to get a treadmill at the gym! :headache:

Those weather conditions in Anaheim sound wonderful. It has been very hot and humid here in NC, even at 6:00am when I get out to run. Yesterday, it was about 80 degrees and 85% humidity.....yuck. I also decided to "treat" myself to a treadmill run on Saturday. It is a 10 mile run, and I won't dread it knowing I will not be in intense heat.
Hope everyone is doing well with their training! Only a few more hard weeks until the taper.

So I have my race number, can I tell which coral I will be in based on the number?

Earlier in this thread there was the same question and there is a breakdown that is just a prediction. It isn't accurate if you go by last year's numbers...I think it is more accurate if you take the corral it predicts and move yourself back two corrals. (Unless you are in the top 1,000) The higher your bib number, the further up you will be in the corral line-up.

So this is my first race. In regards to the corrals...is it every man for themselves once they get in the corral or are the corrals broken down even more? If someone has a middle #, can they go to the front of their corral?

They are a free for all. You can move to the front if you like. Most people position themselves accordingly.

Based on the estimate above I would be in D. I can't remember what I was in in the last race. It doesn't matter too much to me since I usually try to start at the back of the pack anyway. I would much rather pass people at the beginnig than be passed :-) Kind of a booster at the beginning of the race.

I am hoping to run everything but the water breaks, but I don't know what is actually going to happen at the race. I had to take a break for a week because I was sick, so I am going to try my 9 miler this week (was scheduled for last week). We will see how it goes.

I am getting really excited for this!

Found it. Thanks!:)

I was looking at the final instruction and noticed it recommended arriving by 4:30 and being in the corrals by 5:15. Are those times accurate or is there more leeway than that. I was figuring 4:00 wake up call. 4:30 leave for staging area (about 10 min walk according to google maps). But then not getting to the corrals till 5:30-5:40. What recommendation would those of you who've run the event before have regarding arrival at the race and moving to the corrals?

I notice that the race info says that there are 9 nutrition/hydration stations throughout the race. Those of you who have run the half here before, do they stay stocked? I am somewhat slow, and would hate to get to a station to find that they are all out of water and/or Gatorade. Do I need to wear my hydration belt?

I would get there when they recommend. You never know what can happen the morning of and it is better to be early. That way you can get to the portapotties which have incredible lines usually, and not feel too rushed finding your correct corral. I get up at 3:30 a.m. and leave the hotel by 4 a.m. Not a ton of fun, but it gave me enough time to not feel too rushed.

As far as the hydration stations, I have yet to have any issues with any of the refreshment stations. Sometimes it is easier to get water than powerade due to crowds, but I haven't had any issues and I am by no means at the front of the pack. :)

They stay very well stocked in my experience (3:15 runner). If you aren't swept there will still be stuff for you.

I cannot wait to get back to Cali and it's non-humidity temperatures. Since my move to Florida a month or so ago I've been having issues getting outside and training for the half. I think this DL half won't be my best time (even though I'm still hoping for it) because my training just hasn't really been there thanks to the heat and humidity.

And from my experience last year, the race is done before the temperatures get too bad. I think one year they might have had an issue, but last year was really quite nice!

Great thanks! And I think if I get swept, needing hydration will be the least of my problems ;)

I still haven't booked our rooms!!!:scared1:
I'm looking at the Super 8 on Katella, but my issue is transportation during the race since Katella is closed. My husband and family want to see my dad and I at Angels stadium and the finish line. Is there transportation for the spectators during the race?

I did the 5k last year and remember wearing a windbreaker until I lined up for the race because it was chilly...it felt sooooo nice. Of course, then I wasn't running the kind of mileage I am now so I think I'll appreciate every second of it even more. I did 10 this morning (started around 6am) and actually felt better than I have in a while out there...it was still tough though. And I'm still 6-7 minutes total off my 10 mile time during training for the Princess, but I figure with the heat and humidity factored in, that's not too bad. I'm not expecting a PR in this race either just because my training has been so much slower the last few months, but that's ok...just wanna have some fun and do my best! One more long run next weekend and I'll start my taper...can't wait!:woohoo:

In my opinion DL is easier to get a PR at because the characters are all within the parks so you see them and get distracted only for about the first 5k, maybe 4 miles, but the rest of it is on the streets where you can focus pretty well on your running. So the possibility is still there.

I've definitely been thinking the same way though... training in this heat and humidity has to give me some sort of edge for when I get back to Cali. One thing I know for sure is I sweat a lot more or at least sweat a lot sooner out here than I did back in Cali so it should be interesting when I start running back there.

Hey all -

So, I wish I had seen this thread earlier! I'll be coming in from NYC to run this event. So nervous - it'll be my first one! Yay! :) VERY thankful to have friend running this with me who rocks. :)

Couple of questions for those you that have run this event before :

1. Is there enough entertainment. In looking at the map, miles 4-8 look REALLY boring.....thoughts from anyone who has done this?

2. The sweeper - if you're on the borderline, will they let you keep running if you think you can make it? (I'm SOO worried about the sweeper...I don't want to get SWEPT!!) My training so far has proven that I can finish in 3:30, but, I just want to get your thoughts....has anyone been swept? Or seen someone get swept? What happens with this sort of thing? :scared1:

Thanks everyone for the help, in advance. Running 10 mi tomorrow - wish me luck! :) My very best wishes to all, as well, on their long runs this wknd!! :thumbsup2 We can do it!! :goodvibes

Unfortunately, no. They could try to taxi or walk it straight back down Katella to the finish, but w/ race traffic it could be cutting it close.
